  • Yes, systems prevent anarchy. And those of us with a quiet, peaceful existence don't want anarchy.

@SunsetSnuggles You have interesting tastes. A thread about your food history would be interesting.

  • @achetocuddle Ask before tasting me, next time! 😛

  • @SunsetSnuggles Touche! Where are my manners? ha ha. Your brain seems to never get tired. It's nice.

  • @achetocuddle My brain gets tired while @Btown is just going into third gear! 😆

  • I'm in the process of changing my mind on how I view myself. Which has been several years in development lol! But I am my own worst critic by far, and I want to change that.

  • @Btown - great example about changing your mind on the job (even though 1995 was a long time ago 😂)

@cuddles_ndream - thank you for your willingness to share. I am with @achetocuddle - I would like you regardless of who you voted for.

  • @22cuddle - wow, I really appreciate you sharing those thoughts. I agree 100% that people outside of our inner circles are a lot less static than the boxes we put them in.

  • The brain of @Btown is quite formidable in a good way. I would not want to have a battle of wits with him. Lol.

@Galaxxy This is the first post I have seen of yours and I like it!

    @JohnR1972 :)

  • @JohnR1972 ty 🙏🏻 🌌

@achetocuddle 💯 btown is definitely holding that crown here 👑 😆

  • @JohnR1972 @achetocuddle Thank you.
@Galaxxy that's no easy task, but I'm sure you're doing better than you think.

  • Thanks, @JohnR1972. That means a lot to me.

About ten years ago I stopped believing that all injuries would heal.

About two years ago I stopped hoping that my life would improve.

  • @JohnR1972 Great thread, provoking some really interesting lines of discussion. I’m fully with you on the clean eating point. My younger self would select meals mainly based on speed and taste with the occasional vegetable thrown in. When I started to feel sluggish and unwell I went down the nutrition rabbit hole. That has been a long confusing journey given that some very credible experts directly contradict each other. I remain somewhat confused but try to apply Michael Pollan’s ‘eat real food, not too much, mostly plants’. I’m also on board with the emerging trend of looking after your gut biome. A healthy, diverse gut seems to be a major predictor of good health. Too much info to relay here but if you are interested check out:
    1. Any podcast with Jason Hawrelak
    2. Justin Sonnenberg on Andrew Huberman’s vlog
    3. Professor Tim Spector and the Zoe Test

Thanks for you comments and the recommendations on vlogs & podcasts. I am a regular listener to Andrew Huberman but Inwill have to look into the others you mentioned. I agree, nutrition can be a very deep rabbit hole. One resource I have found very helpful is a company called Viome which analyzes your gut microbiome and then creates custom packets of pre & probiotics tailored for you specific gut biome.

  • Thanks @JohnR1972, on the subject of gut tests, I found it very humiliating standing in a busy post office explaining to the postmaster what exactly was in the gut test box he was holding

On the subject of Andrew Huberman, I keep meaning to start a thread where people can bullet their key actionable learnings. I love that podcast but don’t always have the time to get through 2-3 hours of dense information.

@Nature_Lover_ linked one of his vlogs last week and I’ve noticed a couple of other mentions. So I’m thinking this might be a good place to crowdsource the actionable points without having to listen to every session

  • @MCcuddles2 Picturing the Visgoths (the first to sack Rome) as barbarians is repeating the same mistake that the Romans made. They might not have as much engineering know how as did the Romans, but they were actually quite civilized. If anything, the sacking of Rome should be attributed as much to the breakdown of the Roman systems, as to the prowess of the Visgoths under Alaric.

  • @GreatHornedOwl My opinion is only partially informed but I agree.

It has been a process but I have found It is possible to share intimate non sexual love for others and have it be wonderful, meaningful and genuine all involved persons.

Since a very painful breakup I have sworn off partnered relationships as I am lousy at finding genuine persons for something like that.

Instead I have thrown myself into building lasting friendships with others and allowing some of the bricks to come down from the walls I built to protect myself.

It is amazing to finally understand I was never meant to fit into many of societies predetermined boxes. And to allow myself the forgiveness I had owed to myself for so many years.

I finally got the courage to reach out. And others reached back.

Also recently I had an individual share that I had changed thier views on persons with tattoos. I did not get my first ink until I was 42.

As they looked at my artwork and I shared the stories behind each design they understood that for many of us they are deeply personal and hold great significance.

I also have scars with stories of milesstones in my life as well. But they are not nearly as colorful or beautiful. Just big ugly surgical reminders.
