@FunCartel these gas station owners rely so much on snacks and other items because they make so little on gas. One thing about when you used to have to go inside to pay (you and I are old enough to remember lol) is they were much more likely to buy other stuff too.
@pmvines - I wonder how they are encouraging people to buy snacks now since so many pay at the pump.
@sunnysideup - A new driver might accept a low paying order because they don't understand that we aren't employees. We're independent contractors and we get to cherry pick what we take.

I remember when you used to pump the gas first then pay. Some people would steal gas by driving off immediately after filling.
@mike403 this is why gas station owners actually hate skyrocketing prices—less money from their profit centers. Many actually take a loss on gas during tough times. People are already starting to curtail their driving which will mean fewer trips to gas stations convenient stores, thus decreased revenue.
The gas station I typically use encourages me to come in by having pumps that act up and having an ICEE machine that usually works and has Coke and Mello Yello flavors in addition to two other flavors
My Kmart used to have a gas station. It was great. When everyone else stopped letting you pump gas first they kept doing it. It was easy to maneuver in and back out on the road. It wasn't crowded cause the Kroger across the street had gas 3 cents cheaper. I miss it.
Taking advantage of the mislabeling of the situation although legal, is highly unethical and speaks volumes about the character of those involved. In my line of work, these people are pretty easy to spot.

To be honest, I would have been looking around for the hidden cameras, figuring it must be part of a, "What would you do?" segment. Not seeing any, I'd think "whoa, they're good" and go in to let them know. But when John Quiñones didn't pop up to congratulate me on doing the right thing, I'd be super bummed.
Further, in my moment of dismay and the lack of enthusiastic thanks, I might very well file away a justification for a future five finger discount (but knowing me, I'd forget after a few days... so 🤷♀️).
Anyway, minus one from 'yes' and add it to 'no' because I really don't think I would or could do it intentionally. And I know I wouldn't keep it to myself if I did, because I throw myself under the bus all the time.
@IndianaJones74 i really like how articulately you put that. I have a question: what rough percentage of ‘these people’ is there? Is it really ca. 50% or less? (Don’t know your line of work, but if you know such people from work perhaps you have a better idea) - the thought the 50% being sure they will take advantage of a someone when they can and get away with it is thought provoking to put it mildly
Sooooo the story continues with the ownership (?) refusing to take the GoFundMe money raised. As mentioned before I wish the reporting was better on this story. 🤔 It is an interesting human interest story that deals with how we view our society today.

@Btown I think not taking the money is probably just policy. I don't know of a business today that would make an employee pay cash for a mistake. I have employees that make mistakes and wouldn't even think of making them open their wallets and pay for the mistake.
Yup, gas owners say the gofundme is a bit misleading , they will not accept any of the money & that all money raised should be returned back , or as an alternative the owner mentions 2 charities the money could go to … I say give people their money back.

What I think happened is that the manager did infact make a pricing error (no dispute here) … & once discovered, the Gas Station owner immediately fired the manager & exaggerated the losses & threatened the now ex-employee of being liable & possibly being sued …. The ex manager (with the help of his sister) went ahead & set up a go fund me to recoup as much of the losses as possible, and avoid any possible legal action against him (as well as doing the right thing because it was his error & he most likely felt guilty) … I don’t think the owner ever imagined the manager would raise the money but here we are & this has cought national attention …. I just feel the manager is very honest & the gas owner possibly exaggerated the losses & everyone wants this behind them now …. Let’s see what other plot twist comes along ……. To be continued 😂

The one comment I would just throw in with regard to an earlier post is that while inflation is high, unemployment is not. It's a job-seeker's market right now, although that may not last too much longer.

I find it an interesting scenario especially talking to people. Do you see yourself in this story as the Station Manager, The Owner, The Customers getting the fuel, The People contributing to GoFundMe, The Managers Sister, etc. ?

Imagine being an EV owner with modern solar panels & energy storage …. Not only are you driving for feee / & powering your hike for free / but you’re making money with the excess energy being sent back to the grid, (the utility company is actually paying you!!!) there has never been a better case for going electric / solar / & storing than now.
@OhioMike The good Ole days. How were gas prices seen compared to wages back then? I believe gas was between $1-2 per gallon in the late 80s or early 90s, but memory escapes me.
