I'm not a druggie nor advocate its usage but drugs are more available than hugs.  I can't even find hugs on here even.  But drugs and alcohol are very easy to find though.
  • You have now discovered the reason drug is addiction is so common and how to treat addiction. Apparently, it is easier to spend tax dollars for law enforcement, lawyers and prisons than to provide a few hugs

That's because we are all taught in school and family to be financially rich over being rich at heart.  Oh I forgot to mention, I have actually been contacted by several women who wanted to hug me.  They are all professional huggers who charge $80 /hr for hugs.  $$$ is the incentive.

donb  I have known some professional huggers and they are not all in it for the money. Quite a number of them are in it as they believe in the power of touch to heal and connect us.  Have you ever thought that there may be some things you could do differently in your life to create more hugs for yourself? I believe sometimes it is easier to blame others than look within. I am not saying this is your situation but I want to mention it. If we connect to our higher selves and think  creatively sometimes with support we can create the richness /fullness in life we desire. I have sat outside a local grocery store with a chair, table and poster board . Written on the poster board was donate one can of food for the local pantry and get a free hug &  a kiss. the kiss was written as a Hershey kiss drawing.  I handed out Hershey kisses and hugs for  a few hours during that day and collected quite  a bit of food. It was a neat experience for me to see how much people care and how many really wanted to be hugged. I had one guy go back in the store to get more food to donate after we hugged. He said I will be right back let me go get some more food I want another one of those hugs.  :)  Anyway, I will think good thoughts for you that you will be able to create the healing connection you desire. peace- Catherine

If they were that much doing it for healing to connect us, they'd do it for free.  But hey a person's gotta make a living.  That's why they do it.  I get hugs but not cuddles.  Apples and oranges comparison.  I'm not harping on anyone who enjoys paying for cuddling. Its just not for me.
  • It's not for me either, But it actually sets a more professional feel to it and that makes the boundary issues more clear.. I just don't understand setting the prices so high, generally $60 per hour. Makes it sound like some other profession.

I understand about boundaries.  That's why I stated in my profile that I'd be willing to cuddle in a public place.  So that wouldn't be forcing anyone to come to my home or their home right off the bat.  I'd also be discussing boundaries and consequences beforehand.  A person has to feel safe.

I have seen professional cuddling prices from $80-200 /hr.

If someone has any concern for their safety, then professional cuddling would be a good start.

  • What us the training for professionals?

I don't know anything about that but when I was considering becoming a professional cuddler, the only requirement was to be willing to cuddle both men and women.  Nothing more than that.   The boundaries and consequences were simply covered in the client service agreement.
  • I take anti depressant drugs which work to an extent. I reckon getting plenty of cuddles would help though :).
  • Stevie,
Yes, I'm in same situation. Cuddles help me and it lasts a long time for me.
Maybee some day I can wean myself off meds w a Doctors guidance. In the meantime I learned to use every thing that works including pets.
If I quit meds and got depressed, I would start getting b lue and withdrawn and might quit reaching out to people.  I might even feel unhuggable which would doom me.
My self image. Is changing for the positive.  I am more tuned in to othr people.

  • I agree. It's too bad all of you live so far away. I am glad your self image is changing for the positive Crispin. I've had self image issues too and being an introvert, it is easy to get withdrawn. Especially when I worked second shift and ended up sleeping while everyone else was at work, working while everyone else was relaxing, and relaxing when everyone else was sleeping.

I've been thinking up different ideas to get touch into our lives:
    - Sometimes I go for a 15 minute chair massage which costs $1 a minute at some spas near me.
    - There is a site called dancepartner.com which helps you find someone to go dancing with. Might be a way to get contact out in public.
    - I try to give friends/family a hug when I leave
    - I haven't tried this one yet, but I've heard the suggestion to visit elderly people and give them hugs
    - To find cuddle buddies: there is cuddle comfort, a mobile app called spoonr, craigslist and possibly creating a profile on  okcupid and mentioning you are looking for cuddle buddies only
    - Going to cuddle parties (check cuddleparty.com or meetup.com to see if one is near you). I also thought that might be a good way to meet potential cuddle buddies. Go to a party, ask someone there if they are interested in being cuddle buddies...
    - Going to small groups somewhere like at church or at a group that does an activity you like (sports, arts and crafts, etc.) I found some groups locally and some on meetup.com. It's a good way to meet new friends and possibly get some hugs.
    - There is also a site for exchanging massages called massageexchange.com. I had trouble, as a woman, finding a partner who wasn't trying to just get sex. I have had more luck on this site than that one. But, I mention it because it might work well for men.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

  • Grace_Anna, that was a great amalgam of good alternatives. I will try that messageexchange site.
  • i cuddled my cat tonight.
  • Good for u pizzagirlitalia. Welcome to here!
Cats are so wonderfully sensual. I have a guinea pig that I cuddle with my hand but wish he was a lot bigger!
  • I have a lion head rabbit that I cuddle with too. Hahaha.

Not that I don't like the idea, but hugs are very unpopular. Haven't been hugged in ages. Can't even remember the last time.

Not that *I* would ever do such a thing, but I've heard tales of a particular drug that intersects quite well with hugs.
  • I came across this thread again and like it so much that I think it should be a starting place for new members, except for perhaps the drug reference and even that would be appropriate in the right setting. In bulletin boards, a sticky can be added to discussions that themoderator feels is valuable to newbies. They become valuable introductory documents.
  • I agree. Hugs not drugs should be a slogan.

I imagine Free Hug pamphlets and Hugathons lol. How many people can you hug in under a minute.

    Ready, set…go! Lol

  • Oh how I love the smell of a freshly resurrected thread in the morning.

  • I read many drug users were victims of sexual abuse. This includes the great Sugar Ray Leonard. It's not an issue that's so readily fixable.

Sure cuddles can make everything better, but I wouldn't call it a magic pill that replaces therapy, self-care, substance abuse, depression, or other issues. I will say like partner dance, that the time that you are engaged in it is essentially timeless and pain free.
