I am the 9th of nine kids and came along after all my grandparents had passed. Word is that my maternal grandfather divorced his first wife and then married her sister who was my grandmother. I have cousins whose grandmother was the first wife and cousins whose grandmother was the second wife. The relationship between the two factions rivals the Hatfields and McCoys to this date.

  • On the pet question, for me it was a cat named Boo. I have not had a pet since.
Me and my 1st had him spoiled, I think he could spell Spoiled !!!! We divorced and she kept Boo and about 2 years later she died and her family gave Boo to me, he was acting very strange so I took him to a vet and they kept him to run tests. The day of the funeral the vet called about an hour after we left the cemetery, Boo had died of heart failure, he was 18 years old.
I had him cremated and put him in the ground with my 1st wife. It was almost like losing a child.

  • I didn't know my grandfathers as both died when my parents were young. My mother's mom lived with us for many years. I was 12 when she died. She would let us sleep with her. She would let me snuggle but always told me to keep my cold toes on my side of the bed. =)

@GreatHornedOwl ... very interesting about the lamps and the limelight.

What have you experienced success with in regards to health or working out?

Maybe a decade ago, I tried counting calories, and that worked wonders at the time. I was in a very active job where I was on my feet for eight hours straight, walking constantly. Adding calorie counting to that activity level, twenty pounds melted off in less than a month. However, I tried counting calories a few years later when I had a sit-down job, and it did not work.

Five years ago, I got into a habit of walking around a local park in a loop. I wound up really loving it, as I would call my friends during my walk, and the time would fly by. I soon reached a point where I was walking five miles every single day (even on my planned two days off). I did not lose a single pound doing this; I imagine that my diet was just so oversized that it made the walking ineffective for weight loss, however, I loved that my legs and ankles became stronger and the initial cramps and ankle pain I had when I started eventually went away and it became straight-up addicting to just walk and walk and walk. I think this was a much healthier thing than the calorie counting that I had done, previously.

    Thank you for sharing!

@Btown Always killin' it. (You, not your grandmother.)
Thanks for sharing such personal family history!

@waynewv What a cool story about the lamps! Gosh, that age was romantic... But I'm so glad I live in the age of tampons and internet! muhahaha

@Zundar That's hilarious about the vegan food. I can attest to people not knowing how to handle the vegan thing. I've been asked to defrost and arrange dead shrimp. Been offered meat more times than I can remember. Been asked if eggs are vegan. Had people lie to me about lard being in the beans at a family function. It's pretty amusing, but I don't get upset or anything; I know that veganism is still not that well-known, especially compared to vegetarianism, but it really does crack me up when they still offer meat. In general, my boyfriend's family and my ex's family were much more accomodating and desirous to educate themselves about it, than my own family. I appreciate anyone who asks about it or is sweet enough to try to get me vegan food for a potluck or other event. I always tell them not to worry about accommodating me, and that I'll bring my own food. My life choices shouldn't make anyone else bend over backwards.

1: Playing video games with my family. Dad would control it and my sister, mum and I would watch and backseat play. He wasn't very good and would often pass me the controller to do the hard bits. Mum would solve puzzles and try to lead him to the solutions. He wouldn't always listen and would start fun arguments. Blame the character for things.

2: Marmalade the big ginger cat my exwifes nan had. Big soppy thing he was. Wouldn't hurt a fly. When I got a paper round to make ends meet he would follow me to the paper shop at 4am and wait there til I finished then walk me home. It was a good couple kilometre walk. He passed away suddenly. Heart attack when a over excited Westie burst into the room where he was sleeping.

3: I don't know. Part of why I'm on this site. I was in a relationship from 18 to 32 and now that it's over I don't know how to be single as an adult. I also was defined by that relationship so I don't really know who I am anymore. Throw in the rules of my autism changing over the years and I'm a mess.

    1. I was very little when they passed so no. Just stories.

    2. Kind of? A doctor once said that I've got a healthy, strong body... thats hidden under a layer of years of stress drinking milk. Should I ever lose my belly I reckon I'd be in a good place. I certainly surprise people when helping them move house. Lift more than they think I should be able to or carry for long periods.

6: I like to see other worlds, realms of possibilities. That era of hopeful science fiction has loads of great examples.
