But that's just it. The friend or neighbor usually has an agenda, or then might expect you to be there when they need to call you. Sometimes one is just not in a space where they can reciprocate or give anything back in return - and just want an empathetic ear and another human present - who isn't trying to be a therapist. For them, the money is quite well spent.
Because of the way this thread has turned into a heavily trolling and baiting series of comments I have locked the thread and put a temporary timeout for the next few days on a couple of those who were breaking the forum rules.
