Vote for Forum Features

edited January 2018 in General

I feel this discussion was had way before me already. Though I thought I'd bring it up in a way of let's 'Take Vote' for or against, as opposed to just why we should or shouldn't have so features.

Like always feel free to also share your thoughts.

I feel:
Like/Dislike buttons creates positivity and negativity. Which I think the negativity can be avoided with these 'buttons':

  • Hug - if someone feels down or you just feel like sending Virtual Hugs
  • Me too/Agree - Need I say more. ;)
  • Disagree - It's okay to disagree respectfully.

After having had a talk with #I_am_Polylover about why we should/shouldn't have a like button, I had come up with the above. I was against (for a handful of reasons) about having a like button especially with a dislike as they usually go together. However, after hearing I_am_Polylover' perspective I support having a like button or similar - #1.

  1. To have or not to have...15 votes
    1. Hug(s), Agree, Disagree
      60.00%
    2. Other buttons
      13.33%
    3. No buttons
      26.67%

I think we could get by without a "disagree" ... but I love the idea of "hugs" and either "agree" or "like".

I find "dislike" or downvoting can create a bit of a negative atmosphere in a forum.

If there is a particularly unpleasant post that people want to "dislike", they can post something that disagrees with it, then other people can "like" that post to support disagreement with the original post. :)

  • I agree. Although personally I don't see a disagreement button as much division, I can understand the need to promote discussion about why one disagrees. Or simply leaving it. :)

  • Thank you @Lovelight for starting this thread. It just happens way too often that I need a like button, just to say I like what you said, without having go to the trouble of typing it out. And typing it out is just so much wasted space on the forum. Why not save that space for real original thoughts instead of just a 'me too'. As for which buttons should be used, I'm fine with your suggestions, but @respectful has a good point about how we could do without a disagree button, and I think I might add a 'good point' button.

I understand the sentiment and even recently joked about having a 'like' button but I'd personally prefer CC remain buttonless.

Exactly one of my points. People might take it personally and get depressed.

  • People are pretty good at giving accolades on here and tagging them without the use of a like button, which to me seems kinda generic and impersonal anyhow

Maybe you would have to opt into these buttons, that way people who don't want them aren't pressured into having them.
