How do I talk to a REAL mod who does their job the RIGHT not the LAZY way?
Well this post is one way to get the attention of mods; who BTW have been lovely and good to me personally. I wish you better luck.
I'm not seeing any reports issued by you, although I am seeing the warning attached to your account. Those are not something we issue lightly, if that's your concern. If someone is raising problems for you, report them. Any other problems arise, you can feel free to message @reurbo @Sideon @Babichev @Mark @Gary or myself. Though making threads like these likely won't get you the positive attention you're hoping for.
What's the "right way"? 👀 I'm sure this post will be flagged by someone so you'll likely get a reply soon. 🤷♀️
...and there it is... Guess it was already reported...🤷♀️ Thanks, @Shake49. Thanks for all of the hard work you guys do!
@Shake49 was kind in his fair and measured response, @LushCrush . Depending on what coffee I've had, you may not have been as fortunate.
Let's agree your start here has been less than auspicious. Stay in your swim lane as a Pro, and we'll stay in ours as awful moderators.
Time will tell. Good luck.
@LushCrush I have to agree with @Sideon. Between the fair warning you got a month ago and the way you decided to complain about it now in a public fashion, while you might not have been a second thought before this you most definitely got the attention of the entire mod and admin team.. but I guarantee not in the way I'm sure you want. @Shake49 was nice in his post on what the proper steps would have been with who you could have reached out to and there is a sticky thread which lists all the mods should you not wish to message the one who gave you the warning. Next time handle any complaints with maturity because this kind of reaction will be a ban if it happens again.
You know you can just delete your account, right? You don’t have to post a ban-me thread.
When you shine the Bat symbol in the sky, and Batman comes to your door...
I suppose that's one way to get more eyes on your [expired] one day only "flash" sale??
Nothing sus about that btw, or having "crush" in one's user name. But okay.
Fwiw, I kinda like our awful lazy mods ~ though 45 minutes to 2 hours and 15 minutes, for 3 of these volunteers to have chimed in, does seem a bit excessive... Especially when done so tactfully too.
Way to keep it lazy and awful y'all!!
Good thing I'm not a mod, then people would really have something to complain about
I'm not sure what prompted the OP to post this in the first place but just to give a different perspective on the subject.
Not here, I really haven't had much of ANY dealings with the Mods on this site but on a different forum I use to post on, there was literally a rule against publicly questioning moderator behavior which only serves to protect moderators who may be misusing their power. Part of the reason that I was having problems on that site is because there was a particular moderator who was basically cyber bullying me after I came out about my mental health problems. I got banned from a thread specifically about mental health just for mentioning my own mental disorder. I was eventually able to get that ban removed but nothing was ever done about the moderator who issued the ban in the first place and he continued to follow me around on the forums even going into old threads I hadn't posted in months to issue warnings for "starting on a flame war" on an argument that had already been resolved. In fact the other user in the same argument even backed me up that we had ended our discussion on peaceful terms months before the warning was issued to stop the argument we weren't even having anymore.
This moderator was literally breaking several of their forums own rules by harassing me which is against rule 1. The whole thing with going into dead topics to issue warnings on old threads is also against their rules. I even specifically requested that if they had a problem with me to have a different moderator come talk to me and issued a formal complaint to the Admin above that moderator for the harassment. This went on for over a year and nothing was ever done about it.
To make matters worse, that web site actually doesn't even have a way to delete your account. You have to ask as moderator to delete it for you, which they even refused to do, so I ended up making a thread to try to intentionally get banned by publicly addressing all the things the moderators had put me through on that site.
That being said, to be clear, I'm not advocating to make every little disagreement a public spectacle. Keep in mind in my case I did attempt to go through private official channels first, and things only got WORSE for me after I reported the moderator who was harassing me. That's the only reason things escalated the way they did is because nothing was done about it for over a year and it was still happening. I don't know if such an attempt was made here. What I am saying is I wouldn't be so quick to judge someone negatively for posting this without knowing the full story.
If the person did make an attempt to go through proper channels first I think they should have a right to start making it a public issue if the problems continue.
That site I was on before by the way, I had Private Messages from other members who also had issues with their admin staff. There was even a voice actor on there who only started getting harassed after he started voice acting professionally. Moderators wouldn't do anything about it claiming they were just criticizing his work which isn't against the rules but I read through some of the comments he was getting, most of which were actually attacking him personally. One person even insulted one of his children who has Autism and this is what the moderators had decided fell under "constructive criticism of his voice work". How does making fun of an Autistic child have anything at all to do with his voice acting? I really do not blame him for getting pissed off at people especially after bringing up his kid in a thread that was suppose to be about his voice work. A lot of the people I actually like talking to on that site barely ever post anything there and I can still interact with them over on YouTube. But the forum we were all on just seems to discriminate against anyone who different and the Moderators there don't help. If you so much as have your own opinion on anything they'll flag you for starting a flame war. It's basically an echo chamber where you're only welcome as long as you 100% agree with whatever everyone else says.
The funny thing is I don't even 100% agree with everyone I actually like talking to but we have a mutual respect for each other even when we don't always agree. That's why I like talking to them. I can still appreciate another person's different perspective even if I don't agree with it. I don't like arguing with people who seem to think their opinions are irrefutable facts. When I have a discussion with someone like to at least understand their point of view even if I don't agree with it. It's never about who's opinion is more correct it's just about understanding a subject from a different perspective. If you always feel the need to only surround yourself with people who agree with you then how are you ever going to learn and grow as a person?
Sorry for the long rant... which kind of went off on a tangent... point is don't be so quick to judge without all the facts. And that goes both ways, I'm not taking anyone's side here because I don't feel like there's enough information to pick sides. I don't know if the OP ever attempted to go though proper channels before resorting to this I also don't know what exactly the moderators have even done to deserve this in the first place. So both sides are equally innocent until proven otherwise. This could simply be a misunderstanding for all we know. Regardless I hope the issue gets resolved.
This did not happen to me, but a regular that I enjoy reading also had an instance where they were being followed by a moderator and was penalized for a private convo they had in the DMs.
I have not bad experiences here, but I think if it's true that there are moderators that abuse their power and use personal issues to bother members that there should be formal procedures to handle this.
I do appreciate what the moderators are doing overall and hope they continue to keep this a safe community.
@cylee1180 - mods don't "follow" conversations. Full stop. There is no way anyone would be penalized in any way unless they had been reported. Moderators have a ticketing system. We have checks/balances to prevent power abuses, and if we have personal issues with specific members we ask other mods on the team to take that ticket/handle the issue.
Another aspect to consider is conversations BETWEEN members and mods. Folks get warned for any number of reasons, and tensions run high, but the same forum TOS/rules apply to private convos with mods. I'm not sure the logic or reasoning, but if someone's going to escalate and start personal attacks in DMs to me, up to and including "!ocks!cker" - they guarantee themselves a new spot in banned camp. I mean, two points for Dr. Obvious, but dude, bye.
@Sideon Thanks for taking the time to explain! Again, my experience here and my observation of the moderation process has seemed fair - on the other hand, @CuddleForDID 's experience seemed to have mirrored the regular that I know (feeling unjustly persecuted on the forum and having private conversations used to discipline them).
It is quite possible that I don't have the full story and also that I don't know the full process of the moderation process, and I accept that. I also hope that if any of things do turn out to be true that you can be objective and just.
Thanks again for your work! I also know you're busy, so no need to respond unless you're free. I appreciate you.
Let me just reiterate that my experience was on another forum site I'm not longer a part of, not this one. I'm still relatively new here so I don't know the mods here well enough to judge one way or the other. Based on what @Sideon just posted it sounds like this site has a much better system in place to prevent that sort of thing from happening here.
I only shared that story as a POSSIBLE motive for the OP but so little information was shared about what the actual issue was it's hard to judge who was really at fault. I was simply giving the OP the benefit of the doubt but it kind of sounds like this may have been unjustified in this particular case.
@CuddleForDID After getting more information on this situation, this thread was made with zero context for the majority of people, but the OP was making several other comments in another thread with more details. In short, an unnamed friend of the OP who was also on the site got banned and the OP felt it was unjustified. I cannot give more details other than that, but because OP posted this information elsewhere I wanted to share it here.
I’ve been offline for 24 hours and missed a bunch of drama. I guess that qualifies me as an awful mod.
Usually people who get banned don’t tell others the whole story. I’ve seen this more than once when someone appealed to me on a banned person’s behalf. There were things the person making the appeal did not know about, blatant evidence that was right there in a person’s account. Moderators don’t generally discuss the details of why someone was banned or warned even when it would work in our favor to do so.
If a person thinks they have been banned unfairly they can appeal.
Don’t assume you have all the information about someone else because you probably don’t, you only have what they have chosen to tell you.
I'm closing this thread as it no longer serves a purpose. The OP was found to be a sex worker with definite links to her adult sites and has been banned.
