I like either, and I'm ok with whatever my partner likes. Spooning itself isn't my favorite cuddle position.
I'm with @BashfulLoner as far as being a flexible spoon. Being the small or big spoon while cuddling can both be wonderful and called for in different moments.
@wrench I sometimes do use a big spoon I'll admit, especially if it's harder ice cream I'll use my heavy-duty big spoons to scoop it out of the container and then go ahead and eat with it since it's already dirty.
@cylee1180 now I must go to Austin, TX. The poppin' ice cream scene is calling my name.
@teddybear888 That is a great question. I will say my most purchased brand is Ben & Jerry's. I'm sure they've made over a thousand dollars off of me in the past handful of years. There was a period of time where when I had a bad day I wouldn't have a pint of beer, but I would absolutely down a pint of Ben & Jerry's without hesitation.
I worked at a homemade ice cream shop on and off for about 6 years in my hometown Lexington, VA. When it comes to ice cream I'm not so much a snob as I am a nerd. I know that the quality classification of ice cream is determined by butterfat/milkfat content and overrun which is the industry term for how much air is whipped into the ice cream. Less overrun, the denser the ice cream and typically the higher quality. Brands like Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Daz have lower overrun and higher milkfat which makes them denser and freeze more solidly which is one reason why you see those brands mostly in smaller containers. This also makes them more expensive to produce which is why they cost more. Brands like Breyer's and Edy's for example have way more air whipped into them so they'll be in bigger containers, but potentially not actually hold much more if you were to let it all melt. A lot of "ice cream" that you see in the store actually is not technically ice cream due to the percentage of milkfat and/or the overrun so you will see many containers labeled "Frozen Dairy Dessert".
While working at that shop, I must have consumed gallons and gallons of cookie dough ice cream. I've never had the Haagen-Daz version but I'll try it this week as I trust @cuddles_ndream's judgment and I know I won't make it through the week without some ice cream.
@achetocuddle I love brownies in my ice cream too. Brownie Batter Core or Chocolate Fudge Brownie by Ben & Jerry's are both heavenly. I'll have to try Tillamook sometime too!
Here are a few pictures from when I went and helped my old boss out a few times when he was first reopening the shop during covid. He's an ex-lawyer who got fed up with the culture and left to go run an ice cream shop. The guy makes ice cream in the morning and plays golf in the afternoon and it seems like he couldn't be happier. He's been a great supporter of me in general and also was one of the first people I told when I started cuddling. He's told me if I finish school and don't end up liking whatever I do job wise that he'd open a shop for me in one of a handful of cities to run or let me move back to Lexington and run that one, so it's nice to know I'll always have ice cream to fall back on.
If any of you ever pass through Lexington, Virginia definitely give Sweet Things a visit. If you're ever in Staunton, Virginia the best gelato is at a place called The Split Banana. If anyone read all of this, I'm definitely buying you ice cream. 🍦🍨 I know I definitely owe @jimboslice5014 some.
@calmcontact I read it all (um, awesome thank you for that btw.) Now… I’m gonna go have some ice cream.
@calmcontact I read all of this including all the flavors. Black Raspberry? Yum. Turkey Hill ice cream is just Ok, but they have Black Raspberry What a thorough and interesting response you wrote.
@Charlie_Bear and @achetocuddle you guys are the best! I owe you both ice cream. What kind are you having now @Charlie_Bear?
Black Raspberry was definitely one of my favorites when I worked there. It was one of the standard flavors and then we had a whole case of rotating and experimental flavors too. He would always make Guinness ice cream for St. Patrick's day which people got a kick out of. Before the pandemic, he was actively scouting locations to open a store in Washington state that would be an adult ice cream store with alcohol and cannabis-infused ice cream. I hope he does actually end up doing it. I will definitely go visit.
@calmcontact I had some Coldstone in the freezer, so cake batter and gummy bears 😅
Cannabis-infused ice cream, you say? Now that would be something to try.
@Charlie_Bear I love cake batter ice cream or gelato but I haven't been able to find it in stores. That sounds amazing. Gummy bears, so fun!
I'm used to being the big spoon.
It depends on both the situation and how comfortable I am with the other person. I'm more likely to be comfortable being the big spoon.
I hardly ever measure with a spoon. Rather, I cup a little in the palm of my hand or grab a pinch between my finger and thumb depending on the need. Season to taste!
Great, now I want ice cream and cuddles.
I like to be both. My favorite is when I am big spoon to someone much taller than me. Seriously 😃 It’s fun to feel like a backpack, which isn’t difficult as I’m only 5’3”!
@calmcontact I also use a big spoon for soup and a small one for ice cream.
Definitely big spoon and I love to snuggle up really close and….•bliss•
@calmcontact Im thinking of Black Forest with cherries, flecks of dark chocolate swirls & brownie chunks with some marshmallow whipped in there. Also, gotta have a German Chocolate with a extra bit of coconut with pecans covered in the chocolate. Yum. Yeah, I’m complicated like that.
But if not, I settle for some moose tracks.
@teddybear888 Oooh I love more complex flavors like that. I’ve got an ice cream maker that I should figure out how to use and try to make those! There is nothing wrong with being a little complicated.
I actually ate a bowl of Moose Tracks around 2am last night before passing out. It was the favorite of myself and my three younger brothers growing up and I was feeling nostalgic when I went shopping last week. You have good taste!
@calmcontact Thank you, that is kind of you. Our Patronus’ are aligning. An ice cream maker? Gourmet versus store ? You are a true aficionado.
@teddybear888 Nothing wrong with being complicated about your ice cream. Or in general. Complex people can have a lot to offer.
@calmcontact Austin bound you are, no cap!
Now I want ice cream!
But on the spooning discussion, I actually think I've only ever been the big spoon. Societal pressure on a guy, and/or I've always been larger than the person I'm cuddling, I guess. Hmmm. Now I think I have something to request in my next cuddle session! What's it like to be the little spoon????
I prefer a spork. The situation could call for some culinary creativity and you need to be prepared for any situation.
@calmcontact And a small spoon helps keep brain freeze to a minimum.
Both
Yup, definitely in the mood for some ice cream
@calmcontact Here in Austin there's an ice cream shop (or shoppe, if you're fancy like me) called Lick. Here are some of their flavors: https://www.ilikelick.com/everyday
As a finder's fee, I hope I can get first dibs on a cuddle session when/if you come to town.
@Mela_B Well, I have to ask now: What is your favorite cuddle position? (Btw, I like squishy.)
Now I need some good local brand of Ice cream while im in Florida.
100% big spoon, I love holding a girl, it makes me feel like I'm protecting her
I can hang either way, but it probably depends on body size. I'm the big spoon if the other guy is smaller than me and vice versa.
