I will visit a persons profile, for any of several different reasons. Viewing the photos is most certainly not one of them.
If the profile if it belongs to a woman (of any age), who is is located within roughly 60 miles of me. She just possibly turn into a cuddle buddy.
I may visit someones profile from the "Latest" list, to see if they're in a town near me, or one of the dozen towns around the country of the same name. I don't know why they can't include the state name too. They manage to identify the country, if it isn't the U.S., and if I can understand the sometimes cryptic, two letter abbreviation.
If a person visits my profile, I will often check out theirs, just to see who they are, and wonder why they might have been visiting mine. More often than not, there isn't a clue.
If somebody says something in the forum particularly interesting, particularly intelligent, or particularly stupid, I may check out their profile to see who they are. I rarely learn anything doing this, but for some reason, I keep on doing it.
I click on profiles when I'm evaluating cuddlers for hire, or I just want more context, often after a forum post. Sometimes I check comment history too.
But as for people visiting me, here are my theories,
If someone said something that intrigued me or caught my attention, i like to review their bio or karma they have
There are loads of reasons I visit profiles.
Sometimes it's a misclick. Sometimes the profile pic contains words and I want to read them. Sometimes I just want to check somebody's gender so I don't get their pronouns wrong in the forum.
It's extra, easily accessible info about the people I'm interacting with here. I like that. It's handy.
Not having any social media to speak of (CC goes without saying) the question, "How deep a rabbit hole have you gone on other social media platforms that started with something someone said or an eye catching profile?" Begs to be asked.

I do it mainly to see how far they are from me or in general where is that place. Cause sometimes it would say some thing like Folsom and i get all exited till i find out its some other state. I laugh at my self cause now my geography is much better than it was at school lol
Forgot to add … if someone has a cat picture on their profile pic, or “cat”/“kitten” as part of their username, I’m definitely clicking 🐈 🐱🐈⬛☺️
If they are very close, or if they visited me.
