@sunnysideup - I automatically assume that they're a scammer and am discouraged to continue the conversation.
@Mike403 I'm at a point where I've messaged enough people online to be able to tell if someone is a scammer or not after a few messages. Though it was at first hard for me to believe, a few of the people that said I was handsome or some derivative at first were real. But yeah generally they are scammers so I don't think you're missing much by taking that approach and rather saving yourself a lot of time.
@Mike403 Not a bad approach at all.
@PrettyLuv the comment by @TruePower is true. Guys do love to be approached. It's so rare we are immensely flattered, well I am.
However, when genuine women open a conversation, in my experience they never start with a comment on your appearance. And when they do start with a compliment, they are usually somewhat embarrassed or at least cautious about it. Genuine messages are more likely to be in good English.
hi hansum = scammer (especially if the photo is an attractive young woman and the profile text is empty or generic)
Hi, I'm not sure if we're allowed to do this but I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your comment in the forum. Hope you don't mind = genuine person (especially if no photo or an 'ordinary' photo)
I compliment a lot of the men in my life but for men I don’t know, I just can’t. 9 times out of 10, when I compliment a guy
“you have a nice smile” “I like your shirt” “You look so comforting”
They treat it like I’m flirting and start to follow me or grossly hit on me or just be blatantly sexual. I understand men aren’t used to getting compliments but if the majority of the men would stop making it sexual, I would gladly do it more…
@Sheena123 I get that - because men get complimented so rarely, if a woman does it, there is an automatic assumption she is romantically attracted.
@WriterGF 😫😫😫 just sucks… I see so many men I could easily compliment when I’m out at karaoke or playing pool or at a mall but I keep to myself. When I’m with my hubby, I feel more comfortable complimenting men. There are times my husband and I are at a mall and in the food court, there’s a man looking very handsome nicely dressed. Like he’s waiting for an interview or something. This one time, I went over and told him that suit he was wearing was 🔥 and how handsome he was. His face just lit up and his smile was freaking huge. I guess I made his day 🥹 I wish I could do it all the time but due to my experiences, I can’t 😢
Me being a pro here on the site, I can’t compliment anybody because everyone thinks I’m trying to advertise….
@Sheena123 I get why women don't compliment men in general - they don't want to lead them on or get hit on or worse, needlessly stalked. So if I do get complimented by a woman I just met, I'll be inclined to think she REALLY wants to flirt with me, if she's aware of the above. Or maybe is an out of towner that comes from a very polite society and isn't used to the kind of society that we live in. Although I admit if I were unusually well dressed and received compliments that I looked nice, I think I'd probably see that as a compliment without the romantic association.
