Time machine

If you had a time machine, would you try to change your past choices. I think if I had one there are lots of times I would want to go; maybe I could have been a better person, better husband, a better friend than I am today... maybe just a few days would be sufficient.

    I never ever tried to “fit in”, but I always worried what others might, (or would) “think” … what a waste of time 😂 I’ll start there!

    • I was Always full of self doubt and not thinking I was capable of amazing achievements… As if they were reserved for “others” …. Psssshhh screw that - i, and anybody else can do and achieve absolutely anything period! Literally Anything!!! and this is not to sound like a motivational YouTube speech, there is literally nothing that someone with a strong conviction for something can’t achieve, I would immediately change that thinking right away!

    • Don’t try to get everyone to like you, some people will like you, some people won’t , some people will think you’re amazing , others will think negative of you, that is completely out of your control! And what ever their reasoning for either is completely valid, it is theirs and you have zero control of it & nothing to prove or convince.

    And finally - forever prioritize happiness, your happiness is unique to you and not the same for any one else… the worst mistake is chasing societal expectations of what “happiness is” … what that leads to is hiding your true feelings with a bright smile on your face to the world.

    These are the things that I would genuinely change.

    What if I had responded even once to that pile of letters a girl was tossing, throwing, inconspicuously placing in my things, folding as a paper plane to fly to me in my 5th grade class (very long time ago), where would I be today; instead of hiding them behind my dresser for my Mother to find eventually, lol 😂. The pile was rather large! I dont always think of the ripple effect of things I do or don't do today to those around me. Maybe I affected her journey in life by not paying attention to her. Silly things like that make me wonder. Pondering the past has little direct effect on the present day, but I guess I can learn from the past.
    Used to jump off a bridge a lot into the river. The bridge has 3 tiers and I would only jump off the lower or middle tier. I climbed to the top tier and as I looked down into the vast rolling waters I chickened out (5th grade also). Today it would be like whatever. It showed my level of confidence was not that high. Had I done so at that age, would I have taken bigger risks, bigger investments, be a different person than I am today. If I had that time machine that could inconspicuously and invisibly place my present self behind my younger self while my younger self was standing there on that top tier then just shove me off lol. Would that change who I am today... ironically, that same age, I had no problem repelling off a cliff with my best friend at the time.

    I definitely would go back to college and pick a different set of friends lol, while i learned how important it is to set boundaries for myself because of the “friends” i had, i would have rather have spent my college years studying and giving it my all instead of partying and drinking with people who didn’t really care about it me. i also would love to start over at right before the pandemic started and tell myself to stop drinking so much and eating so much fast food and to INVEST 😭

    If I could keep my current knowledge / understanding of myself and how the world works (not necessarily who won every major sporting event for gambling purposes) then YES, I would go back in a heartbeat and make a lot of different decisions.

    However, if it was just a pure “reset” of going back and blindly rolling the dice to see what would happen if I did something different, I would pass on that opportunity.

    I am with @JohnR1972 ... I would only go back IF I could take my current emotional intelligence with me. Or If I could go back and be the supportive person I needed to my younger self.

    Oh yes - so many times I wish my current self would've shaken the shit out of my younger self😆

    To be honest though, all the "screwing up" has made me more sympathetic and understanding of others struggles. So, I'll just love who I am and say I learned a well-needed lesson.

    I have given this thought in the past. I've come to the conclusion I wouldn't change anything because some of my choices lied to people I've got to know nowadays. Including my ex-wife.

    I would say no. I certainly made my share of bad choices in my life, but if I changed anything, maybe I don't end up with my wonderful daughter.

    I have a feeling whoever was originally born in my place managed to go back in time and somehow shrink down to microscopic levels to neutralize himself from the swimming competition so that I would become the champion swimmer instead. That crafty sob.
