Is there a difference between regardless vs irregardless? Irregardless it doesn't matter if they are interchangeable regardless of how I use them?
I only use regardless, but I hear people use irregardless.
Irregardless has become a word due to its use by less well educated people. It's not a variant of regardless although it does indeed have the same meaning. It is a severe corruption of irrespective, or perhaps a conflation of irrespective and regardless.
Irregardless should be avoided because it inhibits clear communication. It could be taken to mean not regardless.

“Irregardless” is one of those words that got created when people didn’t know how to say or use “regardless” properly. The prefix “ir” means “not”. Irregular means not regular; irresponsible means not responsible. I’d avoid using “irregardless” as it is a double negative.
I think I know what the difference is.
Think if you’re in an argument and someone tries to discount what you just said by saying “regardless...”. Your counter is “irregardless...” to counter their disregard.
In other words, irregardless is like saying “regardless of what you think is regardless”.
Ex. Person A: Regardless of what he did, he doesn’t deserve to be treated that way.
Person B: Irregardless of how he was treated, he’s still going forward.
Someone said "irregardless" at lunch yesterday, and I had to stifle the giggles, no thanks to this thread! 😜

It’s just not a word, though some people are trying to change what’s acceptable now. And writing ‘your’ when you mean ‘you’re’ Is apparently ok now. Are people really getting that lazy or is it just too slow to edit when texting? Also, ‘I could care less’ just makes me wonder why anyone thinks that makes sense. Leaving out punctuation and using poor grammar can totally change the meaning of what you’re trying to write. (Not referring to any of us CC Posters, of course!)

There is never, ever, an excuse to say or to write "irregardless." An absolute corruption of the language.
