@natickben I am clinically obese; not supporting this business and their gimmicks definitely doesn't mean I'm slamming people with obesity, just for the record. hugs
This has nothing to do with somebody's looks or what people can't control. This is about a business that is actively supporting unhealthy behaviors. Being overweight increases your risk of heart disease and death.
I don’t know, at least they are honest. These all-you-can eat buffet places that lure those who can’t control themselves and advertise on tv using skinny people are in many ways more insidious than some place that says what you eat here will kill you. No one complains about bars and pubs luring in alcoholics. That is the most “American” thing—the freedom to choose the poison that will kill you.
@Mike403 As far as I know you are not a doctor, and especially not the doctor of obese people. The idea that “celebrating obesity” is somehow offensive and worth derision is entirely dehumanizing to those of us who, for so many reasons beyond just a restaurant, live as obese people.
@natickben I agree. It’s akin to people wheeling around oxygen tanks and then taking pics of them in a smoking lounge at an airport. They are aware of their addiction and what it is doing, but it’s not so easy to just stop despite the judgements of others. Posting the pics is like a public way of feeling better about yourself if you are not the afflicted. But everyone has their personal demons with triggers attached.
I disagree, that would be like taking pictures of someone eating in the restaurant and mocking them as an individual. @Mike403 did not call out any person, but a business. What it would be akin to is taking a picture of a smoking lounge that offers oxygen hook-ups as their main attraction.
@natickben I'm very sorry that you found Mike's thread dehumanizing. As I mentioned, I am clinically obese myself, and I did not find it dehumanizing or upsetting. Hugs to you, again. Apologies if my initial message has hurt or offended you or anyone else; it was directed at the business practices, certainly at no human or demographic.
I get bored and surf the web from time to time and run across some crazy sh*t that I have to share. I tend to trigger some people with some of it. I'm sorry.

@mike403 No need to be sorry. Just take a moment before posting a pic or video and think how something might make someone else feel. I think your heart is in the right place but the optics are wrong.
And just because one person who is obese wasn’t triggered doesn’t make it right because obviously someone else was and we are not accounting for everyone who doesn’t respond on the forums. And trying to tell someone who was triggered by saying you weren’t triggered does not make them less triggered.
Semantics aside, it was triggering to people and the last sentence about oxygen hook-ups kind of reinforces why the picture is wrong. It is shining a light on someone’s condition whether a person is in the picture or not and can be taken the wrong way. A predatory business can trigger the self-aware, depressed and otherwise regular person if presented in a community of peers. We all carry feelings of shame about something. I am not obese but even I can see why it can be offensive and hurtful.
I don’t think the picture was posted maliciously. I just think that the ramifications of the post were not considered. We have all done that at some time or another.
A friend of mine recently told me about this place. There's some sort of contest that if you eat a particular meal, I think it's free.
Lately, I've been trying to take care of myself better. Especially since I am obese. There is that part of me that I have to keep an eye on that I would've loved going here when I was self-medicating with food.

@KaaGee - My bank also charges me $2.50 if I use an ATM that isn't theirs. It's ridiculous. I use Wells Fargo.
