lottery
I wouldn't want to have to choose between two bad choices. Many lottery winners meet disasterous outcomes a few years on. And if UBI were universal, then it would be a new social situation. Has it ever been done successfully? If there are still rich people then UBI just sets the bottom, but from an economic standpoint it would be inflationary. So UBI would have to chase the economy. Probably not a stable situation. Can I have an option C please?
Lottery, If you educate yourself on finance as well as get a good team together, and reinvest those winning for long term grows as well as use it as a leverage to create passive income.
What would be an option c @1_teddybear ?
I’d like to win 500k a year for life.
@1_teddybear I agree.
Here in the UK the typical 'big' lottery win is about £2m. The population is about 68m, so that works out at about £0.03 each. It's a lottery win, so it only happens once. So, 3p each.
There is no consensus on the amount that a UBI might be if we were to have one, but let's say it was to be £12,000 p.a.. Over a lifetime that might add up to £720,000 in nominal terms. There are currently 68m people but the population is rising rapidly. However, let's ignore all the complications and do the simple sum of one times the other, which gives £4.896x10^13, or £48,960,000m, or roughly £49 thousand billion, or £49 trillion.
I haven't clicked an option on the poll yet. I'd feel comfortable being in charge of the distribution of £2m, but the distribution of £49trillion strikes me as a something of a responsibility.
I also note that under the UBI notion I would receive something like a third of the same amount as the lottery win, just over a lifetime rather than in a single cheque. Although lottery wins in the UK are not taxed, income from investing them would be. It seems likely that income from UBI would not be taxed. This could result in narrowing the gaps between the two outcomes significantly for a young person. In other words, for an 18 year old the difference in personal gain from each of the two options may not be all that large - it's a big difference in timing, not a big difference in value.
@BgstickTeddyBea at my age I think i'd be happy with just enough so I didn't run out before I was done. The question is, how much would I need so I could keep a cuddle partner? I'm not sure how to calculate that.
UBI. I would prefer to do a little bit of good for lots of people than an over abundance of good for myself.
Granted, UBI has to include basic housing, medical care, and education to do a LOT of good for people, but never let “perfect” stand in the way of better.
Well see this is why I chose ubi I had a dream that I actually won the lottery and then I washed my whole life go into complete darkness people asking for money people taking money stealing money and then eventually I got killed so I never want to win the lottery I'll play if I won I would most likely give a lot of it away to other people that I would need to give it to but in reality I don't think everyone too I play small games to try to win big but not that big I don't want that big so I don't want to lose my life
@baseballboy7561 I wholeheartedly agree.
Actually, given the gov assistance available, don't women already have UBI in the US and the UK?
