I'm not embarrassed at all to say I'll be devastated (ok, maybe a little dramatic). I have found a million and 1 reasons for TT to enhance my life. I wasn't a big social media consumer to begin with (posting pics on Facebook so long distance fam could see my kids grow was abt it). I checked it out because I wanted to see what my kids were interested it and to see for myself what the purported dangers were. It took abt 10 seconds for me to fall in love ❤️
Some content I love: Cooking, ADHD/Austism awareness, Queer community, quirky gardeners, booktok, news, animals... PEOPLE being their weird selves... I love them all. I intentionally curate my FYP. I follow rabbit trails, go down rabbit holes and pull on the threads of interesting topics to see where it will take me (often taking me off-TT to explore something new). I was inspired by a creator to cuddle strangers.

Always preferred youtube shorts, and hope that would be the next place to go, so I don't have to sign up for another thing. However that being said I do spend more time on longer videos than shorts.
@WriterGF do you remember the tide pod challenge or the cinnamon challenge or the milk crate challenge? They all predate Tik Tok. Kids will find ways to do dumb things no matter what platform there on you can’t really blame it on the platform itself.
@FunCartel I remember when the iOS 14 preview came out, Apple added a feature that would notify you when an app pasted from the clipboard and TikTok was busted for silently copying whatever you had saved in your clipboard and uploading it to their servers in frequent intervals. I have used TikTok since it merged with Musical.ly, but I also know better, so I really have no excuse to still be using it. I...just...can't...stop... I have been returning to Instagram just in case (As if Meta is any better...)
@xandriarain I liked the Ice Bucket challenge 🥶 but my grandma was suffering from ALS at the time so I am a bit biased 😥
@Charlie_Bear the ice bucket challenge wasn’t a bad one. But some of the challenges in the early to mid 2010s were a prime example of Darwinism
@xandriarain Yeah, I feel like the Ice Bucket challenge was the one that made people realize they could get social-media famous, and that's when the trolls started flooding the apps with eating tide pods and microwaving phones to charge them etc.

@xandriarain you can adjust the Play speed of your Vids on YouTube. You can't do that with Tiktok vids I have ADHD and do this with YouTube I'm listening to an 1hr long Vid essay 1.5x speed) right now while I write this because YT vids minimumize in the corner and still play. ****I can socialize on other apps while listening to topics on YouTube. Tiktok is Not ADHD friendly you're foced to be stuck in that app and can't do anything else. Like edit writing project, while playing R6 siege and play TY vids
YouTube is versatile Tiktok is not.
You can't watch a indepth tutorial on Book binding, voice acting, manga creation, old school Fanfic drama from the ealry 2000s, coding and app creation (Did you Know you can make your own GPS tracking app like what Uber uses? How to create you own language? Conlang? There's a whole community around that. Make your own Tabletop game - YouTube) to on Tiktok. Tiktok could Never
Tiktok is a good jumping off point for topics that can and WILL become your hyperfixation, but Tiktok is Limited

@xandriarain I don't think there is an exact replacement yet. Reels on Instagram sucks. You can't skip ahead or rewind videos or even save them. But I think if Tiktok is banned someone will definitely fill that vacuum. I will miss it though.
