What’s the point?

Sometimes I read these discussion threads and I think to myself what’s the point? For me personally, I take everything with a grain of salt try not to take anything too serious sometimes it’s entertaining sometimes topics go way off point but at the end of the day, I’m usually amused and not upset. What’s your take on the discussion threads?

    I think you don't offer enough choices. I don't post on even half of the threads, but when I believe that when I have something to say thst is worth saying, I can be quite persistent.

    It’s just nice to come in the forums and see that there really are good people out there who really do believe in the core values of this site, even if the local scene is blah. The local scene on here for me is trash—I’ve talked to a few people and they seem to treat it like a dating site, which I am not looking for.

    I’m not here really for messaging and pen pals, but it’s nice to see there are at least some people out there who believe in what I do.

    There are times that I’ve learned valuable information. There are times that I’ve read what somebody else says and find out that I connected with a really good person. I’ve also posted some thing and somebody looked up my profile because of what I said and connected with that person also.
    There are times that it just doesn’t pertain to me so I don’t bother. Then there are times where is a joke.

    One of my fav reasons for reading/posting in the threads is to find out about cuddling perspectives and about people.

    You can learn things sure or dominate a thread or laugh at all the silliness of course, but I feel like there is beauty in finding out about people. How they respond to a subject or to someone disagreeing with their perspective maybe…

    Another reason I read/post is to find people that I can relate to in this subculture. Platonic cuddling is such an interesting perspective and it’s nice to find a community of people who are looking for similar things like CUDDLES!!

    (It’s also fun to see where people are located so for example when I’m coming out towards LOS ANGELES I can reach out after I’ve seen what they posted in the forums or I can say @cerealboxes84 Welcome to the site!! And… there’s going to be a fun Meet & Greet in NYC in a few weeks!!)

    Thank goodness for the Forums. I’m being sincere. I really like reading the different topics and I even love the drama!
    All the POVs, I feel like I know what to expect from some of you and then you totally surprise me with a different perspective. Just having this connection fulfills some of my social needs. (I’m a people person who likes to be alone. LOL). Even when I don’t agree, I learn something from you.
    Wish we could have a cuddle party with the Forum posters! I imagine we’re all different than expected in person.

    Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes one viewpoint is dominating a conversation, sometimes it’s just a troll, sometimes it’s toxic, sometimes it’s uplifting, sometimes it’s educating a newbie, sometimes it’s reminding people to keep things platonic, sometimes feathers get ruffled, sometimes I learn something new, sometimes a I make a new friend.

    I love the forums for the insights they provide and the depth of experiences people share. I used to post a lot more than I do now, but I still read most of what is posted. Not to mention the amazing connections I have made with people when I reach out to them if a particular post they made resonated with me.

    Some of the posts that are germane to the site are helpful to the culture and community (I’ve created them myself and engaged in others), but MANY of them IMO are a complete and total vapid waste of time… like stupid cat stories, hey look at my new friend, what’s your favorite color just waste of internet bandwidth like that.

    I’ve tried to comment on this gingerly before, and I’ve been attacked. But since you asked…….

    I personally like the forums because I am here for entertainment and possible friendships. Cuddling etc is kinda secondary as I realize that majority of folks I interact with I'll likely never meet , which takes pressure off of me actually and leaves me more open to being able to just have fun with things. I do see the members as part of a whole, and while I may not agree with or always get along with everyone, I Will say with the exception of a very small fraction of users, I do respect and love you all. We are all part of a weird tribe and should probably spend less time picking at how we are different, because we are more the same than we realize.

    @pmvines LOL Well ironically, the boner threads are a legit topic, actually. They can happen. I’ve even weighed in on that one in terms of prevention and/or the what-to-do in the event of!

    As far as poops, never seen that one before, and hoping I don’t but I’m guessing that wouldn’t go over favorably under karma reviews! I’d hate to lose my 5 star status!

    Lots of great “points” made so far thank you everyone for sharing. I like how the thread has been a friendly give-and-take, and it really helps to remind me that this is a community even though we may have our differences we can all get along or at least try to! :)

    I voted (2) learning stuff. Which is kind of a wide subject. I've learned about things I never knew about and different opinions on situations.

    At the same time I had a similar conversation on the "State Of The Forums" 😉 with another member over dinner recently. We have been here awhile on CC and as far as my thoughts on forums.... I think I am currently dealing with what I refer to as Forum Fatigue.

    Nothing specific or even "bad" being posted per se. Just to me threads seem repetitive or sort of repetitive or a lot of " groundhog day moments "for me.

    Now I fully understand new members are just learning all the nuances and need the awareness and experience of the forums. I too am curious how members who have been here three, five, seven , plus years ...what are their takes on the discussions here?

    In the meantime, lately I am preferring the one on one approach with the DM to members. Those conversations seem so much more productive. 😊

    I enjoy the diversity of topics and styles, though I do wish they were organized a bit differently so people had an easier time opting in/out of topics according to their interests. The ability to hide all comments/posts from particular members and otherwise curate the forums would go a long way towards cutting down on drama and reports 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I think different communication styles come heavily into play as well. Some people excel at punchy one-liners, some at memes, some at info dumping, some at giving advice/showing support, some at arguing/debating, some at storytelling. And all of them have value and are something I appreciate, seeking different styles and topics out at different times depending on mood or general topic stream that is active.

    I wish there were a way to show appreciation for a post or comment somewhere between a like and a comment. Likes tend to turn into popularity contests and can backfire, making people who don't get them feel bad. Just adding a comment "I like this" or "thank you" would flood the threads and notifications and not add anything to the discussions. But it'd be nice to have a quick way to show appreciation just to the author of the specific post/comment so they know they made an impact, short of sending a DM. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't have a solution unfortunately, but it's a nice bucket list item for when you don't have spoons and you wish you could just punch a button to tell someone "thanks".

    As verbose and annoying as I know I am... I'd send even more of those "thanks" lol

    @cuddlefaery you covered a large chunk of the apparent motivations for posting i've seen here. But I would add to those, people who post to generate more traffic to their profile, and people who's posts are essentially virtue signalling. btw, the kind of chat system that has the kind of features you were hoping for exists. It's called a Discord server. I've never heard of a cuddle discord server, but it is possible.
    The implementation and administration of this place does a good job of balancing quite a few contentious things. I appreciate how this is done, including the forums. Without the forums we would just be hunting around for a picture or profile to visit, and attempting DMs in isolation.

    @1_teddybear oh I know Discord well and use it heavily. The emoji reacts are still more like the "likes" of social media, but at least have more nuance. What I'm talking about would only be viewable by the author and the giver - more like a private notification.

    The kind of emoji you refer to seems to be the normal case for a DM communication, no?

    @1_teddybear I'm not aware of any platonic cuddling servers, though I wouldn't be surprised if there's some smaller private ones around. When I just did a quick search for listed public ones, the only ones with a "cuddle" tag all had to do either with roleplay or kink, so not exactly what we'd be looking for. I'd offer to start one, but I'd definitely need other mods to help as I ain't got spoons to keep everyone in line by myself 😂

    Re: the DM comment: right now that's occasionally what I'll do - send a DM to someone if their post/comment particularly struck me. But my point was that it'd be nice to have an option that was less involved that still showed appreciation. Sometimes we don't have the time or energy for a conversation, and getting flooded with messages every time people enjoy your comments would be exhausting. Far simpler to have a system that is neither popularity contest nor heavily involved 🤷🏻‍♀️ like I said, bucket list item I've had for awhile, not just for this site.
