I'm definitely in the "tighter is better" camp. But make sure the person you're hugging feels the same way!
In the mid 2000s I spent a lot of time with someone through an online game. We unexpectedly met in person at a convention; she made the connection first, came up to me and introduced herself, and we shared a long, tight hug. Years later she told me she has fibromyalgia, and that hug was actually very painful for her. She hid the pain and waited to tell me because she didn't want to scare me off.
Partly because of her, I've come to appreciate long but not-so-tight hugs as well.
Yes, I love big bear hugs. I do want to match my partner. I haven’t found anyone yet would doesn’t like a firm hug. If my partner hugs tighter I match it. One thing for certain, I love hugs!
I had a cuddler in Atlanta that gave the best hugs. She had an embrace that took your mind off of the world. At times you seriously had to remember to breathe!
@cuddlefaery Cuddle Sutra?
best feeling ever
@cuddlefaery I love that "cuddle puddle" 😁 I have been fortunate to have been in the middle of a cuddle sandwich, too, and it wasn't too tight, so was very comfortable. I think there is research that tight hugging releases one of those good hormones, so I try to do a bit here and there during a cuddle, but not for a long time.
So, I think it's less about literal physical pressure and more about enclosure and the emotional context of security.
If someone connects their two arms across my back and does not leave any space for emotional energy to escape, that's what's key. Touching the fingers from both hands together!
Also, regardless of the total total pressure, if they hug me with escalating pressure, it shows a sense of wanting to keep someone close and warm and safe. It's not about squeezing so tight overall but more about starting less tight and getting tighter to show you're truly in someone's arms and all taken care of.
Tight hugs reveal a genuineness A person who truly wants to connect or exude acknowledgment with another person.
@zoeloveshugs EXACTLY!!!
It’s definitely important to ask if someone wants to be hugged tight, so they can prepare for the embrace. I have had to remind some to not forget to breathe. But after that tight squeeze, then when you return to the relaxed state, it is like euphoria. Very lovely. 😌
I've got issues I'm working on regarding pressure and length of hug shared with another. I have a wonderful female friend who says my hugs are the best, I always say her hugs are the best. There are times I wish that we would get together and work our cuddle magic for hours.
the best kind of hugs!
🤚🏾 Yes please! @ back cracking hugs!!🫂
The best hug!
I like intermittent squeezes throughout a cuddle 🙂
Hugging you as tight as you can handle.
