@MrAdmirer And for the recored, no, I don't participate in boycotts. (I just happen to drink Guinness, not Budweiser). If I boycotted a company every time it did something I disagreed with, I wouldn't have much stuff.
People who choose to boycott Chick Fil-A are trying to stand up for marginalized people because the owner has a close minded stance against gays. They just choose not to eat there and call it a day. Bud Light was simply trying to be inclusive to more people (heck, a DOG used to pitch for the beer) and Chick Fil-A is not.

This is denying rights to a group of Americans. Bud Light is being boycotted for providing a business opportunity to a trans influencer. The former is a transparent attempt to deny rights while the latter is a reaction to an American exercising her right to make a living as she pleases. Those attacking the influencer equate her dressing as a woman to blackface, but what they are really saying is she is not a woman. Which if you donāt think that she is a woman that is your right but please stop with the false equivalency.

@MrAdmirer That is a common tactic used by many. The willful sudden loss of a sense of humor because one is desperate to be right and twist things for the unquestioning masses who will believe what they are told. Someone said earlier they didnāt know what poly was yet there was a video a few posts before that explained it. That is a clear demonstration of someone who doesnāt wish to understand others.

My parents donāt seem to care/mind that Iām poly, but either way, telling your parents about something that you want to make more a part of your identity seems unlikely to do much good for you. Better to just do it (have poly relationships).
āBeing polyā and coming out is analogous to being gay and coming out in some ways, and not others. Both might get you cast out by religious/conservative family/community. But Iām a straight, cis, white guy. I have a non-binary partner and am maybe on the aro/ace spectrum. Polyamory is how I conduct my relationships, as far as values and practices. It doesnāt give me a shared history of oppression with gay/queer people. Itās not something I was born with.
Teal Swan is quite a character and a figure. Her childhood abuse was so severe some people donāt even believe it, but she speaks with her own kind of clarity and conviction on a wide range of topics, and draws a lot of criticism and attacks that are hard to make sense of. Itās a whole rabbit hole. I would definitely consult other sources about polyamory, too.

Pretending this is just a "right-wing" phenomenon is just plain disingenuous. For every lobbying group donating to one political party, I can show you one donating to the opposing party. Many devoutly religious folks have also been forced to conform to ideas contrary to their beliefs. There is no one-sided victimhood here.

This just isn't true. Bud Light is being boycotted because it's former VP of marketing, Alissa Heinerscheid, insulted it's largest consumer demographic. That's just not a wise business decision. Years ago, Michael Jordan was asked why he didn't endorse one or another liberal cause. He wisely replied, "because Republicans buy shoes, too."
Business should just conduct business, and leave the crusades to grass-root organizers.

They tried opening an outlet at Buffalo and Delaware airports but because of pressure from lgbt activists they were denied. Also it was the deceased owner of Chik-fil-a who donated to a measure supporting traditional marriage. His son the current owner even divested from the three religious charities in order to appeal to liberals and instead just in secular charities that deal th with hunger, youth, and shelter. But lgbt activists said it was not enough he had to hire many kgbt people and give millions in lgbt charities. Also it was Kid Rock and not Ted Nugent who shot uk cans of bud light. And bud light drinkers which I am not because all alcohol is gross, already see lgbt influencers everywhere, I suppose they just want to have their beer and not deal with it. And actually Anheiser Busch sales across the board with their major brands have gone down compared to last yr and HSBC just downgraded their stock. Bus light is done as a brand. They didnāt know their base. Anyway coming out is a huge step for people and can be stressful Iām sure but not as challenging as jn the past. Big strides have been made over the years. And across the culture LGBT groups are so super visible.

@supadupa Ted Nugent also shot up cans. At let's face it, it was not so much a protest against the beer as it was a metaphor for them shooting trans people. You can deny it, but that's what it really is.

Like I said, how do you think my trans friend feels knowing that she almost died defending this country, lost 2 of her fellow soldiers in a firefight and then has to see a draft dodger (Nugent) and Kid Rock who never served shooting cans of beer in anger. Yeah, she fought for their freedom to shoot those cans, and yet they, who both say they support the military, don't want her to have hers. I can tell you for a fact that it hurts.
But in general....your are right this country is in trouble. I've never seen it more divided and people so prone to lashing out.

I'll simply conclude my participation on this thread this way. Many of the corporations that claim to support alternative lifestyles here in the US, are conducting business overseas in many countries where alternative lifestyles are illegal and punishable by death. So before we jump on or off the boycott bandwagon, let's just make sure there is consistency across the board.

Really we are talking about family being supportive of choices and identities or not. I guess the moral is, if you are looking for an ally, or to be accepted for who you are, and the person you are considering opening up to has just thrown out a lot of unopened beerā¦ keep an open mind.

In my case, with being polyam, no one cares. I live in California, Iām technically āoutā on Facebook, I made a post once on some kind of ācoming outā day, and no one has ever said anything. I think I said āIām polyā and someone thought I meant Polynesian. And thatās fine, people donāt need to concern themselves with how others conduct their romantic and personal relationships.
If I had two partners who each sometimes came with me to weddings, work parties, etc it might be more visible. But even living and parenting with any combination of other adults of any genders wouldnāt raise an eyebrow, at 39 years old in 2023, in this area, where a lot of people my age can only afford to rent a bedroom.

It seemed like @dave31415 put a lot of thought and effort into that comment, which again was only marked as a spoiler because it was continuing the off-topic discussion, not because I disagreed with it. Iām becoming more and more open minded and tell my family less and less. I donāt want to be nagged to D3ATH, so I just donāt say anything. Iām 42 and single, lemme get one partner then I can *think about possibly adding another. I do find it intriguing, and I donāt think Iām āenoughā for someone so Iād probably welcome poly.
