Spirited Away is definitely my favorite movie ever, I rewatch it often. Absolutely magical experience every time. Some other great ones from my childhood are Iron Giant, My Favorite Martian, and See Spot Run

I wonder how many of you have seen these? but they’re classics to some Boomers: ‘Gone with the Wind’, South Pacific.’ Both during the 50’s. ‘The Parent Trap’ (original with Hayley Mills). The older original Disney movies which completely distorted reality for young girls Then ‘Help’ when it first came out in about 1964? We thought we would just die to be able to stare at the Beatles for the length of a movie. I remember having to go to Ben Hur and I hated it. So many great movies in the 70s but I wasn’t really a kid by then. I did see NY production of ‘Hair’ live on stage in all their nakedness. Lol

Let's see: Tuck Everlasting (2002)... I enjoyed that movie so much that one day going through stuff I realized I had both the VHS and DVD version. Clearly I thought highly of that movie.

My daughter and I love watching those older Disney movies together on blu-ray (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White), even though she's not "into" princesses. The artwork is beautiful--she likes the animals, I like the backgrounds/landscapes. She also likes The Long Way North, Anastasia, Watership Down, Labyrinth, The Never Ending Story, and The Sound of Music.
We share an interest in space, so we enjoy those "serious" sci-fi movies together: Contact, Interstellar, Apollo 13, The Martian, etc, as well as various online sci-fi shorts. Here's one of my favorites, Beyond.
I'm fortunate as I get to enjoy two childhood movie favorites: my own, and my daughter's.
JAWS - 1975
I just recently watched it again and it still holds the suspense. I was only 10yo when I saw it and it was THE movie to start my nightmares 😱
@innatefx Good call. I don't think any movie had an affect on the public consciousness, or directly affected individual behavior, as much as Jaws did. It destroyed several small beach front economies for years after it came out. Nobody--and I mean NOBODY, goes swimming at the beach without giving this at least a passing thought.
The only rated R movie I remember seeing snippets of as a child was Cujo and it made me terrified of rabid dogs 😅
