Checking Email for Requests

Maybe it’s my business background that has taught me to frequently check email, especially when in a client facing position. But in my brief time on this board, participating in the San Diego group, the average response time to messages is absolutely terrible. I really don’t like writing this, but as a whole, we have to be better than what I’ve experienced.

Food for thought. Wishing you amazing energy!!

grabs surfboard and paddles out, ready for the wave of ‘Nobody owes you a response’, responses…

But, in all seriousness, someone not responding to you in a timely manner is its own answer.

If they prefer not to interact with you, let them.

When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Let them, let it go, take nothing personally (especially based on a text message or ten), and seek elsewhere for what you want.

    Best of luck!

  • Me: May I quote myself?

    Me: Sure, go ahead.

    Me: @araysd

Don't take it personally, and don't let yourself be bothered by it. Just move on... Be friendly, but don't ever expect a response, you'll only get frustrated. Instead, treat a response like an unexpected gift-- a virtual "hello" from a stranger who might just be as sincere and genuine as you are in their desire to find a real connection.

There are numerous topics on this subject. What it comes down to is:
    1) Both pros and enthusiasts get lots of messages -- enthusiasts especially -- to the point where it can get overwhelming.
    2) Make sure to check when the people you are messaging were last online. Some people create accounts and then disappear for months, years or forever.
    3) There are myriad other reasons someone may not respond, ranging from they're busy to they're just not interested. Just move on to someone else.

  • I have a degree of sympathy for this perspective especially when it comes to pros - it is a little annoying when you're trying to book a service with someone who is nominally a professional, and it takes them forever to get back to you.

But still, especially with enthusiasts, it's inevitable that not everyone is going to be glued to this site. Also, it's hard for men to relate to the volume of messages some women receive. I receive maybe one or two unsolicited messages from enthusiast women per year. A woman might receive dozens in a week. Especially if she's not a pro, you can't necessarily expect her to invest enough time on this site to keep up with that.

  • @CuddleWho Yes I totally understand you but as someone who recently reached out to contractors to build a 20k deck in my backyard and got no responses LOL, not going to try to figure out why a pro cuddler will pass on an opportunity to make couple hundreds. there could be a million reasons. apparently, it's not all about the money for them and maybe that's actually a positive.

See demo above on how to handle :)

  • The OP is a pro.

  • @achetocuddle Ohhhhhhhhhh 😳

  • edited May 2023

Ditto on the "Ohhhhhhhhhh." And I'll throw in an ooops! for good measure.

  • To the OP:
Are you soliciting Enthusiasts to book you and pay you for Cuddles?? Is that why you’re messaging them and they aren’t answering?
    I think we need clarification.
    😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

  • @achetocuddle
The look on your face when you typed that response. Priceless.

  • @carrieanne inquiring minds want to know

My heart almost skipped a beat at the anticipation of some drama!

    @carrieanne

I’ve got some popcorn, with a chili powder, cocoa powder, and lemon salt mix on it.

But, generally speaking, all of these kinds of threads have been done before, so not much drama.

    1) It’s the internet, people are distracted/rude/not into you. Move along!

    2) Professionals are not supposed to be actively soliciting, but saying hello is not a big issue. Hello, goodbye!

    3) Male professionals are exceedingly rare, and very temporary. Best of luck with that Supply v Demand thing…

  • @CharlesInWI
I know, you’re right. But onto something more important, I’d like to try your seasoning but easy on the chili 🌶️. might be too spicy for me but I like butter and Hot Tamales cinnamon candy mixed in.

    @carrieanne

It’s based on a molè that an old friend used to make, and then use as a marinade.

Hits all five flavors, and sort of randomly because you shake it on.

  • @CharlesInWI Speaking of supply & demand... compared to being a male Pro, selling ice in Antartica seems rather easy now.

  • [Deleted User]CharlesInWI (deleted user)

@TxTom And getting easier by the day thanks to climate change.

  • @carrieanne LMAO. You betcha. You surmised correctly. But I won't act like I'm superior just because I noticed that, ha ha. At the same time, I thought the convo should turn to addressing his specific situation. I think that convo could be more interesting.

  • Such is geology. Nothing remains static.

  • [Deleted User]WriterGF (deleted user)

    A pro with no picture?

  • @WriterGF - He has one. Forum is acting funny...

  • [Deleted User]WriterGF (deleted user)

So is the answer to the question basically, "You're a male pro and there's little demand for them, therefore you're not hearing anything back"?

  • edited May 2023

    @WriterGF yes and
    Pros can’t solicit.
    And where did he go?
I would actually hire a male pro because I want to be cuddled.
@CharlesInWI i really want to try it.

  • @carrieanne
brb, applying to become a pro (not really 😂)

  • I will say, speaking for my own self, I used to reply rather quickly to messages on the site; as I would get the email notifications. But now the emails go straight to my spam folder. I never clicked “send to spam” or anything, which is odd (again, I always checked the email once I received it so it wasn’t as if the algorithm could’ve misinterpreted my lack of checking for it being spam).

Now it takes me a bit longer as I have to either shift through all the other spam messages in my spam folder or just login to check the message.

  • Honestly, I just make sure I login to see if I have any messages daily. It’s part of my routine at this point. I do wish CC had an app. It would make this bit easier. Initially I found responding to messages through the site to be annoying, but it’s just a matter of popping in regularly. Tip: this also increases your visibility on the site, which increases bookings…so win/win, yes? But I absolutely agree that it feels very unprofessional to not have an email or message responded to in a timely manner. I feel it says a lot about how seriously someone takes their trade or how much time they actually have to devote to whatever service they are selling. I also say this as someone who struggles with time management and has to set aside time to handle correspondence everyday so it doesn’t get neglected or pile up…so it can be done.

Btw, also a pro and my profile pic never shows up in the forums, so perhaps that’s OP’s issue as well.

  • I like @CharlesInWI answer. Them not answering is their answer, and believe them when they show you who they are. :)

  • I’ll chime in… why would I respond if you say “hey”… I’m also not a fan that I literally can’t respond with one word either. There’s lots of pros and cons to this site.

  • Ironic that the OP hasn't posted a timely response about untimely responses.
