    What & Who:
A potluck-style picnic in sunny Northern California for CuddleComfort members and their families!

    Where:
Davis lies just west of Sacramento, about 1.5hrs east of the San Francisco Bay Area. The park has several play grounds, the eponymous giant cement slide, a public pool, and sports fields. The paths are all paved with some gently rolling hills. There is a simple public bathroom at the pool.
While there are a lot of shade trees, Davis usually reaches mid-90s plus by midday, though it can go over 100F. We're planning to end before the hottest part of the day, but you should plan accordingly and feel free to leave early or linger as you wish.
There is a small unfenced off-leash dog park for furry family members who are well behaved - they are also welcome at the picnic if leashed according to Davis' ordinances.

    Parking:
There is a small parking lot and a lot of street parking on two full sides of the park along Temple Drive and Tulip Lane. If no more spots are available, Grinnel and Layton Drives also abutt the park.

    What To Bring:
    - Yourself! The only thing that is required - come as you are πŸ™‚
    - Highly recommended: water bottle, sun protection, blankets/camp chairs or other seating
    - Food/drink to share is optional, but the more who bring something the more variety we'll have! We'll roughly coordinate via the CC forums to cover all the food groups. Note: no alcohol is allowed in the park or at this event.
    - Also optional: Games/activities for fun in the sun together- there is a lot of open green space that is perfect for yard games, kicking/throwing balls around, ice breaker activities, etc.
Bonus points: totally optional, but it would be fun if we wore sky blue (to match the CC site theme and self-identity) and any wacky, colorful sun accessories your imagination can come up with! Think big beach hats, colorful sunglasses, Hawaiian shirts, leis, colored zinc sunblock, eco friendly glitter, etc.! πŸ§’πŸ˜ŽπŸŒΊπŸ‘’βœ¨

This event is limited to 50 people total per park restrictions. RSVP as early as possible even if you are a maybe and keep us updated so we can let any waitlisted folks know.

  • Ooo ooo!!! I’m planning a trip to NorCal next month! I think I can make this!

  • I'm interested! I'm local to Sacramento, so I can bring some food to this depending on the number of people attending. :)

I'd like to RSVP for 4 tentatively.

  • @peachinthecity & @Sairen79 awesome! If you could RSVP via Eventbrite using the link in the first post that'll help me keep track of numbers 😊

  • Oh darn I was just in NoCal.... I might be able to make it, however it does land on my birthday.

Im so super excited to see how these meet and greets are happening all over the map!

  • bumping to keep on first page :)

So far we have 8/50 spaces taken, so plenty of room still!

  • Come join us! We will likely have cookies. RSVP link in first post.

Look for the YOLO in the center upper 3rd, between politics and wine snobs 🀣

  • Bumping for visibility πŸ˜‡

  • Heck @Charlie_Bear , even if it's just you an' me we'll have a blast! πŸ€—

  • @cuddlefaery
    Agreed! Hahaha

  • Only one short month away.

  • Yup! I have a different picnic tomorrow that I host and it has me excited for the CC one! I'm already trying to figure out what goofy stuff I can wear 😎

  • Ahh, the sweet Republic of Davis. ;) Do they still call it that? I grew up in Sac but live in DC now. I remember when they built the bridge for the frogs to cross the street. I love and miss California. <3

  • It's only a 15+ hour drive... wishful sigh

  • @SunsetSnuggles that sounds like my drive to/from Denver, which I def need a nice long break from before considering a drive that long again 😴

  • Lol @JazzyPants yes, sometimes. And cow town, among other things.

Toad Hollow is still there and as ineffective as ever. There's a dog park at the other end of it now, where the swamp is, not sure if that was there when you were here 🀣

I lived in the Carolinas for 7.5 years and it definitely made me miss California and more politically active lol. The culture shock from Davis to rural Bible belt is real. I've been back now for 7 years so I've lost most of little drawl I'd picked up (which wasn't much, but was noticable upon return), but I'll give up y'all over my dead body πŸ˜…

  • @SunsetSnuggles aww man, It would be so awesome to meet you in person! That is quite a drive.

@Charlie_Bear FYI for you and any other SoCal folks - Southwest usually has ridiculously cheap flights to SMF - we've gotten them for my grandpa from San Diego for around $59 if we catch a sale. Depending on your vehicle and the ticket prices at time of booking, flying may work out cheaper than driving with gas prices.

With advance notice I could potentially play chauffeur for folks, just be forewarned I have a tiny beat up '01 VW Beetle and I'm not even sure the back seatbelts work anymore 🀣 (I don't know who in their right minds would crawl back there anyway)

  • Oh I will check the prices. I mean, driving through β€œcow death camp” (according to the map above) is exciting too. Also smells great. Sarcasm is fun!

  • @Charlie_Bear the best days to check prices on Southwest are Tuesday thru Thursday - those are the unofficial days sales are usually published.

  • @cuddlefaery Aww, you are too sweet, thank you! I'd love to meet you and have some nice long talks. I know I owe you a big PM, too, I'm perpetually behind, I'm sorry! πŸ€—

@SunsetSnuggles no worries and my pleasure! πŸ€— I wouldn't be surprised if my OOSOOM had kicked in and I'd forgotten to reply to something a month ago. I should go check that..... πŸ˜…

  • There's an Amtrak station in Davis

  • @PeopleLikeUs indeed there is 😊 The only reason I did not recommend it is that I've found them to be far more expensive for longer distance travel, unfortunately.

If coming from the Bay Area, I've done BART to Richmond, switch to Amtrak then to Davis - but honestly it's a lot easier just to drive and ends up being less time unless rush hour. Last time I'd looked (granted, a couple years ago), one way Davis to South Bay Area was $35 ish using the Amtrak + BART route. Cheaper than a car rental or Uber, but far more hassle than driving.

For a rough comparison, a non-sale Southwest flight LAX to SMF (20 minute drive from Davis) leaving after work Friday 7/21 at 8:20pm on a nonstop 1hr20min flight is currently $94. A comparable train from LA to Davis, leaving after work at 7:13pm, has 3 segments so 2 changes, takes over 13hrs so doesn't arrive until 8:30ish am Saturday morning and costs $87. So yeah, it's an option, especially if one cannot fly or live closer, but not great for longer distance.

  • Oh wow that sounds a lot cheaper than driving since it would probably be 4 tanks of gas for me round trip.
