@everybody the person that recognizes their own problems finally gets it. Individuality is second to no one. Dream big and chase them on your terms.
Everyday you take a breath is a day you have Thyme to be the best you.
I also try to save time, food, and money all the time. I use a planner now to help manage my time since I found myself forgetting things too often or overscheduling then burning out. Im also mindful of how long I spend on my phone even if im mostly chatting with ppl. I dont have social media and when on youtube I monitor how long im viewing it. End of the day all these apps are only looking for ad revenue they don't care how it affects our mental health nor wallet. When bored I try to look for something productive to do either fixing something around the house or doing something in the yard.
In terms of food I recommend researching ur fav foods to determine how to properly clean and store them (so they last longer) as well as see if it's an item that is still safe to consume shortly past its expiration date. Sometimes the cheaper version of an off brand item is not worth the ingredients put in. I do trust Aldi's dupes, however, since they're constantly testing their products and replace as needed.
Also what helps save me money is not letting fake sales draw me in. I tend to see 50% off only after they changed a discounted item back to full retail price. Meaning it's still the same price as before the sale. Bogo's are usually a waste if it's not bogo free and instead it's bogo xyz% off. I watch TheDealGuy on youtube and he's thorough/reliable in his reviews/recommendations and compares stores. If you have credit card debt pay off the ones with the highest interest first. In the US we can't shut off our outlets so best way (and annoying way) to save electricity is to unplug items (don't unplug ur fridge tho lol).
Am I missing anything folks? Thanks for reading 😅
@Vianca very thourough and extremely helpful.
I've been working at examining and shifting my internal dialogues and habits around the concepts of "productivity", "laziness", and therefore "waste" - both to align better with my ideals in general and for my own mental health.
One of the things I firmly believe in is that humans have inherent value without having to produce anything - they deserve respect and care whether or not they are "productive". This becomes ever more apparent when the concept of productivity starts falling apart around the chronically ill and disability communities. Those people are not just burdens and usually contribute to the lives of people around them even if they aren't "productive".
Similarly, through teaching and therapy I've come to believe that laziness is a fallacy - there is always a reason people aren't doing "the thing", and slapping the label Lazy on it doesn't help or explain why- it often just further demotivates because of the attached social stigma with the term. Whether it's mental health issues, physical fatigue, overwhelm, lack of skills, lack of understanding, anxiety, fear, executive dysfunction...the list goes on. And yes, sometimes it is just that people don't want to at that moment, but that isn't a long term trait.
So for me, waste has become less of a useful concept as usually people, and therefore I, are/am doing the best they can at that moment in time with the tools and environment they are given. Most people in the heat of the moment aren't going "I'm going to make life harder for myself by not accomplishing anything!" Mental thought patterns are far more complex than mere laziness would dictate, so in probably most cases waste is not waste - it's what was necessary at that time.
And if it's not serving us, making life more difficult in the long run, not feeding our goals or helping us grow? Then rather than beat ourselves up over it we can forgive our past selves and move on rather than agonizing and hyperfixating on all the things we've done wrong. We are doing the best we can today, and tomorrow we will do so again and perhaps it will be a step forward.
Perusing the interwebs when should be asleep
Napping. I despise sleep. Always say, "I'll sleep when I'm dead."
@Bear you're punny. 😁
@AllAboutSoul Punny how ? Like I’m here to be punny for you?
@Bear You're a pistol. 😆
@cuddlefaery ~ I really appreciate that share of yours from 6/11. Thank you. 💓
I buy expensive grains to feed to large animals who turn it into manure that I have to clean up.
Eh, but it's one of my only indulgences and they make me happy.
@cuddlefaery I love your 6/11 post too! 💜
In regards to cuddlefaery’s June 11 response.
Whenever I talk to people on social media, I ask them how was their weekend. They will usually say they had a lazy day. Some feel bad about it.
I’ll usually say it’s not lazy, it’s self care. People are usually to hard on the selves.
Also I try to be healthy and buy salad mix that usually ends up in the garbage sometimes. I hate that type of waste.
@Bear most produce that makes it to my house end up in the trash... very sad lol
@KaaGee sometimes fruit does too. In regards to my house. I’ll have some salad and then I won’t. I don’t like Waste but I don’t like paying for like side salads because they’re costlier. I’ve come to grips with occasionally buying a side salad when I order out cause I won’t be thrown in the garbage if I’m in the mood for a salad.
@Bear That is great advice/philosophy. I too am in the salad waster club. I don't eat out much but getting that side is a good thought.
@hoping4snugs if you don’t go out much the other thing I do is the following. I’ll get a premade salad that I’ll eat when I’m hungry. Or I’ll go to the deli section of the grocery store and get the premade salad with just enough for that day.
Classic tip: never grocery shop on an empty stomach or after partaking of some happy cabbage.
Making the same mistake multiple times without learning what the failure is trying to teach me.
@BoomerSpooner I've shopped for groceries while hungry before...$300 gallon of milk anyone?
@quixotic_life & @CuddleHugs01234 thank you both 💖 I was partially spurred on by a recent argument with my father whom I've gradually been cutting out of my life thanks to therapy. His view has been that we kids were always "lazy", and I've come to realize our mental health issues were neglected and he verbally abused us... We weren't choosing to be lazy, we were dysfunctional and escaping. It's taken a lot of work to start healing and he's not willing to be part of that process, so it's better to limit contact than to continue unhealthy patterns.
@Bear that reminded me of this post about ADHD & food waste. We DO deserve the strawberries/salad, damnit! 🤣
Clothes shopping. I have a clothes shopping addiction and a closet full of clothes I’ve never worn with tags still on them. Yet for some reason when I look at my closet, I’m at a serious loss for what to wear as if I didn’t just buy a bunch of clothes a week earlier. Granted, I do get a rush trying on pretty stuff. It just does something for me. But then, when it goes in my closet, it instantly loses its allure and I’ll just end up wearing the most simple plain outfit every day instead. It’s the same thing with my shoes. I love pretty shoes but I have way too many now and despite the hundreds of shoes in my closet, I’m still in my flip flops. A lot of them I’ve never even worn. Sometimes I make the excuse that I’m waiting for the right time to wear them but, some of them have been in my closet for years & they’re so pretty but it’s like … just there.
I’ve started donating most of my clothes now and/or selling them. Oddly enough, I get the same rush when I see someone picking up one of my pieces and their eyes light up with the same excitement I had when I first bought it. I just hope it doesn’t end up in the Narnia of a closet like it did mine.
