What do you do when you are grumpy

edited June 2023 in General

So apparently I've been a grumpy little bag of dicks. My bad. Usually when I'm in that kind of mood I listen to music , chat with friends who I consider uplifting, watch funny vids, go for a drive, eat something healthy, practice positive self talk, focus on things I'm thankful for in my life , get a pedi, get a massage, go shopping, and love on my pets. I'm sure there are more things but these are coping mechanisms that come to mind.

So what do you do when you are grumpy ?

    Gym

  • Depends on the flavor of grumpy. Sometimes I need to wallow in the moodiness - since taking it out on everyone isn't healthy, I'll indulge in watching horror, apocalyptic, and trash reality films & TV.

Sometimes I'll dance it out a la Footloose, although I'm nowhere near that acrobatic with my rage.

And this might get me wrist slapped, but sex... Good sex will get the grumps out ๐Ÿ˜†

  • I go roller skating. Brings me back in balance. ๐Ÿค—

  • Iโ€™m not usually grumpy. :)

  • 2-wheel therapy
    Exercise
Watch or listen to something funny

I look out my living room window and mumble baaah humbug to myself in a low tone, pull up my church socks, slide on my leather house shoes (brown and buffed btw) open my front door after staring through the peephole for about 55 sec (because I cant find my glasses(on my head)) and yell at whoever is outside my house to get off my LAWN! Then I slam the door, grab my 8oz can of Dr.Pepper and watch this old house.
    Brightens up my day.

But in all honesty chronic pain can piss on anyones parade at any time. So stretching, colorful foods and helping others just because, helps me get less grumpy and just be an ordinary everyday fun loving tiny little ant asshole I was born to be.

  • I enjoy a nice churro ๐ŸŒณ,or some fresh air ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ„

  • Not really finding myself grumpy. But in a mild irritation I will listen to good music, watch/listen to stand up. Find something to joke about with my coworkers or practice most of what you said @pmvines min us the loving pets. But I will watch the fish I have and that can be oddly calming. He loves to hide, it it like a grown-up edition of Where's Waldo.๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜œ

  • Are usually get grumpy when I work more than 10 hours or so. I try to stay away from people, especially since my filters are down. I try to stay away from people because Iโ€™m not always as friendly.

  • 1) Fresh air
    2) Cardio
    3) Lift
    4) Meditate
    5) Nap - last resort since I usually overdo it and mess up my sleep cycle

  • I walk or chat with friends.
Reflect on my life and how good I have it.
    Drive (big shock.)
Buy a pair of sassy shoes.

@pmvines "This town needs an enema!"

  • I usually need one of two things when I'm grumpy: food or laughter.

Sleep! For me, Iโ€™ve noticed how lack of sleep can seriously affect my mood -especially if Iโ€™m having an intense work week. I can paint, go to the gym, see friends, eat comfort food, etc., but adequate rest is usually what ultimately realigns my mood. Iโ€™ve had moments where I notice Iโ€™m grumpy for โ€œno reasonโ€ and then realize itโ€™s because I was prioritizing everything else but sleep.

    1) gym
    2) drink some sour beers
    3) play video games
    4) work on learning a new bass line

Really, pretty much my only source of grumpiness these days comes from work. It might be time to reboot my career at another company

  • Grumpiness for me happens less often than it used to. I've found that gratitude is a habit-forming drug with no bad side effects.

For me, its effect was not immediate, but it has built up over time. The more thankful I am, the more I have to be thankful for.

When I am out of sorts, it doesn't last as long as it used to, but I still find it helpful to engage in things that bring me joy. This includes cuddling, driving through the countryside, eating at a restaurant where people greet me by name, etc.

I think that much of what I do is preventative rather than a response to an acute attack of grumption. ๐Ÿ˜

  • I am terminally grumpy.

  • At this particular moment of grumpdom I'm coping by reading through CC threads while listening to Spotify play me what it considers to be "Sad Beats".

Also @BoomerSpooner ~ That's a great Oscar song!! Though my first fave of his is still "I love trash"...

    ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿšฎ

  • Since the hot hot heat ive been spending more time indoors and catching up on videos and talking to people who I've kinda lost touch with lately which has been nice . Helps with the grumps to tighten up those bonds with those you care about for sure.

    I open spotify

  • Distraction therapy!
Walks, music, games, movies, weed, naps, reading, alcohol, a hot shower, clean/yard work.

A quick reset can lead to working it over and see why I'm upset and why I reacted that way. Sometimes I'll have to rinse and lather a couple rotations.

  • I go on a long walk, put my headphones on, and walk until I feel better. Which can be for a while sometimes but worth it โœจ
I dislike feeling grumpy :( but I often feel grumpy

  • Mostly Iโ€™ll eat. I need to change that. Recently I put my music on. Or I should reach out to friends.

@Bear I'm not good at asking for help from people , which is something I've been working on . I think it comes from a combination of being in a helping field as a social worker and just not really being good in general at talking about myself. I'm used to being the one who listens. The internet is a different type of communication. Different dynamic and generally impersonal so I probably talk and share more online than I do in person with people who actually know me. Just another interesting way that the persona can differ from the person .
