Understanding romantic normalities as Platonic

My uncle turned bright red I could tell it made him feel uncomfortable lol. My biology teacher had dared me not thinking I would actually do it, just passively mentioned I should do it. I didn't rat her out though she may have gotten in trouble! Best part about that incident was while walking back to my seat with my diploma in hand my friends mother, who was murdered in a drive by several months earlier, got up and gave me a huge hug and whispered that is exactly the kind of thing Bunky would have done. That made my night!

  • Yes, yes, and yes, @Catloaf:

"There are tons of things that are rooted in romanticism and sexuality, including nudity, that can still be experienced as platonic. Ask any nudist/naturist who lives that lifestyle... Fight me on that and I will debate it to the death. Having said that, I know why rules against kissing and naturist sessions are in place; it's just to protect everyone involved."

  • I wud follow site rules on kissing & naturist sessions that r in in place 2 protect everyone involved,

  • Clients I meet here I stick to rules . I have friends who are also clients I met at naturist resorts who have hired me for companion /caregiving buisness which I have met at camps and had cuddle sessions .

  • @cuddlebugTM I am not a naturist myself but did at one point have a nude cuddle buddy. Not from this site and certainly not something I am promoting to do with people from here, just sharing my experience. Was my first experience with that being totally non sexual. She was a naturist herself and trusted me enough to do that with her . It took some getting used to on my end and I had to recalibrate my own thought process toward it, but once I adjusted and got it in my head that I could do this and remain platonic, it was prob one of the best cuddle experiences I have had.

I’m coming to this with a bias, I totally acknowledge that, but any time someone has tried to kiss me during a session it’s escalated to a point where I’ve had to be more stern than I’d like to. It starts with the unsolicited forehead kissing and escalates to attempts at groping REALLY fast. Just my personal experience

  • That’s why I don’t do kissing with clients . Friends yes ! But not clients !

    Totally agree with @Catloaf

Lots of things, including kissing and nudity can be completely platonic.

It’s not the act itself, but the intent that makes it sexual or romantic.

Anything “benign” can be fetishized, eroticized, or romanticized.

For the sake of simplicity, it’s helpful to just draw clear lines around keeping clothes on, staying outside bikini areas, and taking kissing off the table. It’s not a perfect system but it helps minimize confusion for sure!

  • And @pmvines - I’m cracking up!!!

  • Cracking up at the thought of me kissing my principal or at the visual of me cuddling nude...

  • The principal moment. :# I think cuddling nude is beautiful, and wish everyone to have access to it. Wishing it weren't so sexualized all the time.

  • When you are a big ugly hairy man person such as myself not a whole lot gets sexualized

  • Personally - lips/ / neck/ ears/... lol are keep out zones if the intentions are just to keep things platonic. Not to forget such zones are rather highly Eroge0us Zones. Which means it's a play with fire.

Kisses on the hands is generally with comfort and connection cool by me as long as not done too much either. Generally kisses near the face (forehead/cheeks) I like to keep at bay. :)

  • @HugsFromFei. I agree that kissing and nudity can definitely be platonic. I had a client the other day ( NOT a CC client) that I actually let kiss me. It was a fantastic cuddle WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SEXUAL INTENT. I'm not sure if kissing therapy is a thing but it should be!

On the cheek, totally platonic. On the lips, not so much (unless related or friends that feel related). Then it comes to "can sex be platonic?", which I suppose the answer could be "if they're not interested in each other romantically or attracted to each other". Just my opinion, though, as consent and being on the same page are the most important factors.

My only "concern" with anyone doing it would be that it can easily go from both only seeing it platonically to someone ending up feeling something different.

  • Sex cannot be platonic. By definition, platonic is: "intimate and affectionate but not sexual." Sex is sexual, therefore not platonic.

I agree that sex can't be platonic, but I can see where CuddleBug1995 is coming from. I may be wrong, but I think her point was that sex can't be platonic and where do we draw the line with kissing and nude cuddling? When arousal begins? When someone develops feelings? All of those things can happen quite easily once clothes come off or when forehead kisses turn into light kisses on the lips or elsewhere.

  • I only nude cuddle with friends not clients or people I meet here . Before coming here I did have clients that were naturist . I have no problem with this because they understand non sexual nudity . I wouldn’t nude cuddle with someone who isn’t already a naturist . Sex can’t be platonic it can be unemotional but not platonic .

It might be disgusting, especially to you cat lovers, but my dogs both kiss me on the lips every morning.

  • @Greybeard - Dogs and cats have fewer germs in their mouths than humans. It really should only be disgusting to the dogs. :D

  • Interesting answers... Thank you all for your input. Where I come from, people kiss on the cheeks to say hi– from 1 to 4 kisses depending on the city/region– the same way Australian hug to say hi. What shocked me in Melbourne was seeing adults, close friends, kissing on the lips to say hellos or goodbyes. I didn't know it was a thing here in Australia.

I don't kiss my close friends or family on the lips, I would not do it to strangers or cuddlers, I found it too sensual. As a Pro Cuddler, I would not accept being kissed on any part of my body, or maybe just my hand in a kind of joke way.

Kiss is a way to show your love, key to open a heart:)

  • This is an awesome and important conversation. I really appreciate everyone who’s sharing. I currently have friends who I get platonic kisses from and it feels extremely supportive. It kind of reminds me of my pet rat ?

The question is tough for me to answer, because I don't really understand sexual anything. I don't get those feelings, so... is everything platonic for me?

Sex itself doesn't seem "sexy" to me—it's just this weird biological thing (that I'd rather not do). @BlueIris: You say sex is sexual, and yeah, that seems obvious, but at the same time I feel like I'm missing kind of a big part of the whole thing. Is sex still sexual if it feels to you like some guy getting really excited about sticking his finger up your nose? I honestly don't know. I kind of want to say "yes" just because of the definition thing, but....

    [helpless shrug]
Kissing would be platonic for me, I guess. Unless it gets defined as "an inseparable part of sex."

@DarrenWalker - I was responding to a question "can sex be platonic?" Which by definition it cannot. Again, the dictionary definition of platonic is that is is not sexual. Do we need to define what is sexual? Dictionary definition: having or involving sex. The dictionary definition doesn't say anything about feelings. By definition, if a man becomes erect if he puts his finger up someone else's nose, it is sexual because it involves sexual arousal for him, even if the person who has the finger up his/her nose is not aroused.

Even if you don't have feelings of arousal, if whatever you are doing or is being done with you or to you involves genitals or someone getting aroused, it is by dictionary definition sexual and not platonic.

I'm not a therapist or a sexologist. All I know is how to read the dictionary.

  • @Blueiris And you can't argue with Webster

  • @pmvines - Some try, but they don't win. :)

@BlueIris I love dictionary definitions. The problem is that they always seem to be changing on me, and sometimes I think general usage isn't the same as what I see in the dictionary, which makes communicating with people kind of tricky sometimes! I still remember the time I asked some poor, shy kid if he was dumb. I meant mute. I didn't realize there was another word for it, and that the meaning of "dumb" had changed....

So what I was wondering was whether the dictionary definition mightn't be missing something, at the moment—something that'll be in the next edition, maybe, but is still being used generally right now, even though it isn't in the dictionary—something that most people have, but which I don't... you know, the feeling.

People seem to include the feeling in the definition, even though dictionaries don't, and so I wondered.

If the feeling is a necessary part of the definition, I thought, then maybe even sex wouldn't be sexual for me, like @CuddleBug1995 suggested. But if it isn't, then maybe even kissing would be sexual, and how would I know?

If there only has to be arousal in one participant for a thing to suddenly be nonplatonic.... [slightly bothered] But not everyone can control every part of their body, so... maybe if it's accidental things are still platonic? But no one I know is a mind reader, and lying exists, and so how could anybody ever know?

[rueful] I am clearly about as confused as it's possible to get.

    After some thought:

If it's actual sex, I'll say it's sexual even if nobody's aroused.
If it's kissing, or cuddling, or whatever, I'll say it's sexual for whoever's aroused by it, and platonic for whoever isn't.

The first bit's objective—the second's subjective. So... for me, kissing's platonic. For whoever I'm kissing? [helpless shrug] And if the arousal's a temporary thing for whoever, then... hmm... I guess I'll say it was sexual (for them) for a bit, and then it wasn't anymore. Subjective things do shift, after all, and it's no big deal unless the someone in question's actively trying to shift them away from where you've agreed they ought to be.

Ahaha, I know, I babble. Thanks for putting up with me, everyone.

  • Imo platonic has to do with intent . Is your intention sexual arousel or for this act to lead to sex . If so than it’s not platonic .

Some people get arroused in a cuddle session what they do about it determine if it’s platonic or sexual . Erections happen it’s not automatically sexual . Infants get errections. Intent and how you behave determines if something is sexual or platonic .
