What is the most overpriced thing that you got duped into buying?

For me it was Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. $300 for something that didn't sound any better than $50-100 headphones. You were basically paying for his branding and I don't even care about that rapper.

I now own a pair of wireless Sennheiser's that was the same price, but are superior in every way.

    I joined a cult. Cost me 10k and they gave us shitty gas station food for dinner at the "retreat". I am about to take them to small claims court next week actually 😵

    MBT rocker shoes, years ago. My Pilates teacher raved about them. I could barely afford the class, yet I spent over $300.

    A First Class ticket from Hawaii to Texas. What I thought was going to be an extremely enjoyable flight, promptly ended at wheels up when an infant in the row immediately behind me started screaming. The screaming didn't end until wheels down in Dallas.

    It wasn't so much that I was duped... it just would have been quieter in coach. But I still felt like an idiot.

    Uggs - $200 down the drain the moment I stepped in the snow. It’s a wonder they’re made for winter. They do keep your feet warm in the cold though but just can’t wear them in the snow or rain or any bad weather event really, which sort of defeats the purpose. It was trendy to wear them though at one point.

    @PrettyLuv look into the rainboot uggs they are plastic on the outside but shearling on the inside.

    The most recent one I can remember is when I paid a dermatologist $175 to zap off this red dot on my face which was a broken blood vessle but it only got worse 😑 she also told me she would redo it for free if it didn’t work the first time but now the receptionist won’t call me back.

    In fact, I’ve wasted a lot of money ineffective cosmetic procedures, skin care products and weight loss products

    Hmmm, I cannot think of the most overpriced thing, but one thing I felt duped into buying was the Ouya. Thankfully it wasn’t too expensive.

    Fake cocaine . Lots of it. I was young and stupid and thought I'd be a big shot high school drug dealer. This was the early 90s mind you. Ended up with a backpack full of flour starch and baking soda. It was for the best as there is no telling what my life trajectory would have been lol

    @xandriarain I could never get into the plastic finish on their rain boots. For some reason, I thought because they’re winter boots, the suede ones would at least be made to withstand some mild winter conditions but, so wrong.

    @PrettyLuv Yeah I wasn't the best kid lol . And Uggs are super comfy I have a pair for house shoes but not something I wear outside as I'm afraid of ruining them

    @JasonCuddles - If you get in a wreck, it's easier to go after the insurance company for payment of damages than to sue you...especially if there are injuries and medical expenses involved. Yes, they are for-profit just like any business and can only exist if they pay out less than they collect.

    beats are over priced, but i don’t really think you’ll find much difference in most of the brands you’ll find.

    I bought some dandelion greens for awhile, that was over priced considering i also pay to keep them out of my yard.

    @Sooson - The infomercial went on about it being a free call but in very small print on the bottom of the screen, it said that only the first 2 minutes were free then $3.99 per minute after. Every call had to last longer than 2 minutes.

    @ScroogeMcducky - At a night club I used to frequent before they permanently shut down due to COVID, I watched somebody throw up all over the bartender. Seems like a waste of money if they can't hold their liquor.

    Not me personally, but a 3rd shift CVS cashier was complaining about having 2 bachelor degrees and being unable to find a better job to pay off $60,000 of student loans. I won’t derail this thread by mentioning what the degrees were in other than to say they were not valued by most employers.

    @DaveTheBrit - Agree on dating sites. I got more value paying professional cuddlers. Even though it isn't dating, connecting with another human being in some way is much better than just feeling like a fool like on actual dating sites.

    $40 per month on match.com to not get a single response or a negative one in one case adds up. Somebody actually told me "ew" when I messaged her. It would have been better for her to keep her mouth shut.
