Today's my birthday (I'm 31 now yay!! 🥳) and it seems like everyone and their brother has some sort of a midlife crisis when they turn 30 and start to hate birthdays after that, but I friggin love it. 😂
Am I the only one who's happy to be out of their teens & 20's??

Like, I get that people wanna be young, and mortality is a tough concept to grapple with, all that's valid as fuck, but being 30 is awesome!

    From an outsider’s POV, I kinda had a pre-midlife crisis when I first turned 24. I mean, my next birthday and my 20s are half over 😰 And tons of people outside of their 20s gush about their 20s. But being outta college has the benefit that, most people I meet are way older than me anyway. My youngest coworkers are in their thirties, people in my MMA class look 20 but to my surprise are in their early 30s. And these people are still traveling and living their best life. So, I’ve been adopting the attitude that age is just a number

    I believe my midlife crisis started around 20 🤣🤣 I just turned 31 a few weeks ago. 30 is for sure when all my health issues started.

    I think it genuinely depends on your situation. The older we get the less other people care about your birthday as well which in some cases can sting.
    Personally, I love mine. I start the pre game party on the 31st of October with my favorite holiday and end on the 4th. 🤣🤣 Yeah. I’m one of those.

    I used to take an interest in this. It seems that for many people 30 is the hardest birthday. 40 is easier than 30, and 50 is easier still.

    I raised an extra cheer at 43, which according to the life expectancy charts of the time was my half way point.

    I turned 34 this year and I still celebrate my bdays!!! I got dressed and went out to this karoake bar and it was cool!! So yes celebrate your bday…..it’s an accomplishment!! People die everyday and wish they had the chance to celebrate one more bday!!!

    I’m excited to turn 40 this month!! I’m having a small, snuggly gathering for my birthday.

    Getting older is great. I think it's hard to appreciate in one's 20s what the 30s and 40s are really like. Among other things, your masks and coping mechanisms from your teens and 20s break down or wear out; for many people, the wheels come off the wagon, so to speak. You face your childhood trauma and the fact that you don’t have to please or impress or prove anything to anyone. You realize how much you've been worrying what other people think, because you just can't do it anymore. Your dysfunctional patterns that you thought were virtues, you finally put down out of exhaustion from not getting results.

    Great points Frank. Once you’re in your 50s you’re typically much more honest and straightforward in your conversations.

    But I still respect those that bite their tongues and recall when I was younger how much my elders “grinned and beared it” as they were facing life’s challenges. I wish I could be more like that.

    I tend to be a smart a— and a joker, but sometimes others get offended. But my jokes are never at the expense of others or personal.

    LT: true story I was with my family and paying for the meal at age 48. The young cashier automatically gave me the 10% senior discount! Hopefully it was just due to the size of the family bill and not how old I looked.

    I have great news, the mellowing conditions, just wait! At my age, I just sit back and enjoy, because I’ve figured out a lot of solutions to the things I used to worry about. Just gets even easier I promise. There’s this overall feeling of you don’t have to impress anyone anymore and you can be yourself. No one‘s really watching so no one cares lol.

    Looking back, I recognize that I underwent what might have counted as a "Quarter-Life Crisis" in my Twenties; my undergraduate experience lasted too long (6 1/2 years), I couldn't get anything resembling a career started for about five years afterward, and the work I was doing to support myself was unfulfilling and often frustrating. Now in my Thirties, I'm more satisfied than I've ever been, with a career I can be proud of, a home to call my own, and enough self- awareness/confidence to finally silence most of the insecurities that plagued my younger years.

    If a genie offered me the chance to live my Twenties over again (not knowing what I know now), I think I would turn them down. If, however, I could go back with all the knowledge and experience I've accumulated, that might be a different matter. It'd be nice to return to a time before pain in my hands and back, and take better care of myself! :p

    I think I started freaking out thinking about how I’m ever going to retire because I can’t save enough money so I realized I either have to win the lotto or I’ll have to work the rest of forever 😂😂😂

    There are times I wished I experienced more when I was younger. I’ve never regretted holidays until this year and that has nothing to do with age. As long as you’re still going, strong lead the pack for the others. Have fun with your holidays.

    Turned 34 just over a week ago, I don't feel any different than being 33 but its still nice having a day that feels like is special for you. My friends were out of town so I actually had a pizza/cuddle party with a great Pro in my area and it was an awesome day!

    Sad to hear how many people did not enjoy their twenties. I had a blast. Too much fun probably even though I had no money, a crap car, and a girlfriend I couldn’t get rid of. It’s all what you make of it and what your priorities are at the time. My priorities are very different now, but I thank my lucky stars that I was aware enough to realize you are only young once and to enjoy youth regardless of what your situation looks like at the time.

    @stormydaycuddle I must agree that it seems like each birthday (at least for me) that people do care less for mine. Celebrations were still pretty nice in my 20s and now it seems each year gets more lackluster, people go out of town, etc. The last one I ended up literally just being alone at home on my actual birthday until a quick dinner with parents and siblings, while the rest of the family who usually comes weren't in town. As far as celebrating across the span of multiple days like you mentioned, that's my mom for sure and she's well beyond her 30s 😂. She does have a strong personality though.

    I don't really do anything these days though there is a dear friend from this site who has same birthday and we have celebrated together several times. I'd like to do something interesting for my 50th like Burning Man or sleeping in the woods in Alaska for a while. I'm about to be 49 so better start planning!

    I always celebrate. I take the day off from our normal doings, go eat somewhere, and do something fun. I try to enjoy each day as no one knows how long they have here on earth. Since I have lost loved ones recently, I buy myself a gift of whatever I would tell them I wanted, because they would always ask.

    @frankparker9 Being in 20s did seem to involve a lot of metaphorical chest puffing and gutting sucking. A lot of people in their 30s up have seem to fallen into a routine and maybe lose some curiosity or seeking novel things. I guess life can be damaging and that damage to gets to some people

    @hey_nikky Sorry to hear about health issues. I’m finding that proper diet, sleep, and working out have a bigger effect now than they did in my 20s. I feel more pain in my body when I don’t work out or don’t move, for example.
