Man Vs Bear

  • And we all do know that women are electricians, paramedics, police officers and firefighters right? Right?

  • Ok, so first of all, I really have to question the assumption OP makes that the man vs bear question that's been going around the internet is even about men, because it's not. Men are part of the would you rather, but this was a question posed by a man to women in general about what they would choose, which if we follow that logically to it's conclusion it's focusing on women's perspectives on survival based on their own experiences and lives, not about men's moral value.

The man asked a question, hundreds of thousands of women answered and the vast majority of us chose the bear, but where it falls apart is men not only taking that personally, but claiming that our response to a 'pick a or b' question was invalid simply because they didn't like the answer, and that response is in fact part of why so many of us, like myself, would choose the bear. 🀷🏼

This TikTok creator breaks this concept and it's societal explanation down much more eloquently than I ever could:

  • After reading this thread, gosh... men absolutely suck!!!

    Shooting off factoids:

    • 91% of attempted or successful rapes are performed by men
    • 99% of attempted or successful rape victims are women

We cannot underestimate the amount of emotional trauma and breach of trust that occurs when a woman or a girl is sexually assaulted.

Clear examples of threats that women face:

    Cat calls on the street:

    Groping in the club(average: 40x/hour):

  • @BrionC that's a pretty typical misogynist view. Women work in the rescue position as well. Usually put through hell by men. So they end up being stronger.

Now there are men & women alike who cause problems, yet women real do have to fear being assaulted from guys . I've heard first hand from most of my women friends how they have had to deal with it first hand. I heard only once about a guy getting assaulted from women. So that's pretty skewed.

  • @Katota yup, pretty sure. Why did he tell you something different? πŸ€ͺ

  • @Morpheus you just did

But not me. I'm on break

  • @Bear
    Nah...πŸ˜πŸ«‚

Wrapping my arms around you and giving a big squishy hug.

  • @Minestrone101 Thank you for sharing those, when I was in my 20s being touched or having my hand grabbed occurred a lot in nightclubs.πŸ™„
I don't do the nightclub scene as much these days.😏

And I almost forgot about that "Smile baby..." crap too, as if I'm not allowed to frown because ya know... WOMAN!πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

  • Maybe she just thought that bears are cute.

    @Mike403
    Some bears are adorable!😊

  • @Bear Thank you!πŸ˜πŸ«‚

  • @Katota - Winnie the Pooh isn't that cute anymore.

  • I'm on break

  • Part of my service area is skid row in LA. My shop has 60 technicians, only 3 of which are females. I’m going to use made up names for this story. So Mary gets a job on skid row and one of the bosses says, we can’t send Mary alone to skid row, send someone with her. Another boss says, sam is available, let’s send him. I thought to myself, what good is Sam, Mary can easily kick Sam’s ass.

For the record, we send techs in pairs when on skid row regardless of male or female.

Also, this story is really only funny if you know Mary and Sam. Sorry πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

  • Article I just read about this. Which sums it up pretty well. This shines a pretty frightening light on the subject.

There is a question going around the internet, the original question is would you rather have your daughter in the woods with a random unknown man or a random bear. It's been morphed a bit now that it's been shared to would you as a woman rather be in the woods with a random unknown man OR a bear.

Almost without fail posed this question the answer of the women/mothers have been a bear and it has men feeling some type of way that women almost universally trust a bear more then a strange man. But here are the top 10 reasons woman have given for choosing a bear over a man:

    10) No one would question me about what I was wearing if the bear attacked me.
    9) No one would accuse me of liking the bear attack
    8) A bears motives are easier to understand.
    7) A bear won't accuse me of leading them on by being nice to them.
    6) I would not be forced to carry the bears babies to term in 27 states.
    5) The bear will either kill me or leave me alone there are not 400 other horrible ways a bear can hurt me.
    4) Bears do not traffic women.
    3) A bears friends won't come out to say how nice the bear is and how attacking me is ruining its life.
    2) No one will question if the bear attack really happened.
    1) The bear sees me as a human being.

But here are a few others that are sad but true:

If I survive the bear attack I will not have to see the bear at family reunions.

The bear did not pretend to be my friend for months before hand.

A bear would not film it and send it to his friends.

NOW lets talk. Soooo many males are mad about this. I have seen some comments replying to a woman choosing the bear that make my skin crawl. Most of them give off vibes that tell me they are literally part of sect of men that are the reason we chose the bear. When this question was posed, man or bear, to woman 9 out of every 10 chose the bear. 9 out of every 10. We cannot agree about hair color, makeup, or Taylor Swift but we almost entirely as a gender agree about this. In fact when asked 7 out of 10 did not even take time to think the answer was instantly bear.

We understand the bear may kill us. We understand there are fates worse then dying. A bear will simply kill us or ignore us.

Statistically women are safer with bears then men sorry not sorry. In the last 4 years 7 women were killed by bears and 15 were attacked and survived. Do you wanna know the rape/murder statistics for the same time range of men killing/raping women?

We are safer with the bear.

    Sorry, not sorry.

  • @Morpheus - So if you give Mary and Sam MMA gloves and put them in a ring, Mary takes him? lol I'd love to see that: normal people fighting in MMA or people settling their disputes in such a ring. It'd be a great way to settle internet arguments too. That's a great show idea. lol

Put it this way ... I live in a forested area. If my security light goes on at night and there's a bear in my yard (as has happened), I go back to bed. If there's a strange person in my yard, I'm calling the cops.

  • For what it's worth, my answer would be different for alley vs. woods. Let's be real...have you ever met a creeper out enjoying nature in the forest? 🀭 Every human I've come across in the mountains has been sweet as southern iced tea. 🌲

A strange man in an alley, however...hell no, I've watched way too many movies. πŸ’€

But of course in reality, bad things can happen anywhere.

@Minestrone101 Regarding the percentages, sexual assault is woefully underreported by men, and no one knows to what degree. I personally know multiple men who have been sexually assaulted, and raped. Some by women. Some by men. Some by strangers. Some by immediate family.

  • Men shouldn't get upset or take this personally. While it does serve to highlight a troubling statistic, it can also be used to just create further needless division and mistrust.

Man Vs Bear is just a simple matter of using statistics paired with a hypothetical. Anyone could do this with any set of statistics combined with a hypothetical.

I, too, could easily use some statistics and then imagine a hypothetical situation where the choice is Woman Vs. Bear.

I won't, of course. It wouldn't serve any purpose and would only create outrage and another forum meltdown.

Let's paint a scenario here. You're walking down the street. Smile on your face, on your way to work with a lunch box in your hands, then someone runs up & knocks you down. Runs off with your lunch box. Now, you know this isn't what every person is like. This was just a bad apple. You go about yout business, walk down the street the next day, when someone new runs up & takes your shoes. That smile on your face gets wiped again.

Now, the third day, someone runs up, but suddenly, your flight or flight response kicks in. Maybe you run the other way or fight back but, either way, you were ready for abuse this time. Fourth day comes around & there's someone walking down the street from the other direction. They've got the same smile on their face you once had. You're holding your stuff a little tighter this time, you don't take your eyes off this stranger. They give you back an offended glance, just for the accusation, but why should you care? Maybe they were completely innocent... or perhaps not so much... Either way, you didn't have to find out.

A similar scenario is related to Cap in my favorite scene of the Winter Soldier. Grandpa Fury would smile & say hi to people. They'd smile & say hi back. Neighborhood gets rougher, people start telling him to "keep on stepping", & he gets to "holding that bag a little tighter." Fury goes on to explain that "my grandad loved people. He just didn't trust them very much..."

Now apply that kind of fear to being a woman. Other animals have mostly predictable behavior. Mankind, not so much. It's easy to dismiss someone's plight when their experience isn't your own. Easy to write off horrendous acts when you yourself can't imagine doing something so horrible. For some reason, another response to others trauma sometimes is whataboutism but we don't need to unpack that one right now... Point is so many are quick to dismiss the bear comparison as just dumb because "well, obviously the bear is dangerous!" Well, yes, they know. I don't care what jokes or memes you've seen come out of the bear vs man thing. Women KNOW the bear is a threat and that, best case scenario, it hopefully just ignores them. The man however could come off as cute & unthreatening as a puppy... but turn out as violent as a bear underneath. A woman could really love men... but that doesn't mean she has to trust us.

The question being posed isn't which threat is physically stronger. It's would you rather be stuck with the obvious threat or a hidden threat...

  • I see why the women choose the bear. However the men that they’re not choosing are not like most men. There are a lot of outstanding men that I’ve come across. I think also men would choose a bear over women too.

The bear it’s obvious what’s going to happen in most cases. With HUMANS it’s not guaranteed what will happen. I think that this is pinning genders against each other and helping the people that want division.

  • @SunsetSnuggles That's very unfortunate and I here there is a great deal of shame attached to the action too. Not to mention how often it must happen in penitentiaries.

But, as an additional point, a lot of women's rapes also go unreported as well.

Almost every scary story in true horror stories on YouTube involve a man. That's been my favorite genre of media to listen to in my down time (there are other categories such as Walmart, night shift, skin walker horror stories). A small percentage of the time it's a wild animal or an unidentified creatiure. I do wonder about the naked humans that wander on all fours that growl and can't talk .

Women are understandably concerned about being a victim of violent crime. But men are almost twice as likely to be in that situation. But I guess no one cares about male victims. https://voicenorthants.org/2019/08/men-are-victims-of-crime-too-busting-the-myths-around-male-victims-of-crime/
