Woman vs. Bear

Sup, snugglebears?! πŸ»β€β„οΈ

I fell off the Man vs. Bear thread way back on page five. πŸ˜†

However, just now I ran across something that I thought really deserved its own thread.

I'm not asking any questions and I'm not making any statements. I'm just throwing something that made me smile, out into the void.

Do with this thread what you will...memes, actual thoughtful discourse, whatever...just be respectful of each other. Please and thank you.

Without further adieu...

I'd chose the woman. With the man vs bear argument the bear was the quantifiable element. With this, no such consideration need apply. Think of a triangle. Man, woman, bear. The woman is not as dangerous for the man as the bear is in this case.

Also, given the position of the bear's paw in this photo, I might be so bold as to wish I was the bear in this case. 😊

  • I just woke up and thought the thread title was "Woman vs Beer" at first.

  • Why does the bear have a full grip of the πŸ‘ though

Tbh, I'd pick the bear. Look how cuddly he is! He's smiling and happy to be there. The woman has an expression like "wtf?!"

Look at that bear's eyes. He looks terrified.

(Edit: Well, when you zoom in, not so much. But he is in violation of TOS, I think.)

All of this is giving me welcome flashbacks (as well as making me giggle) to a tv show I used to love when I was a child called "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams."

For what it is worth, I would have loved to cuddle with the lead character and the bear both in that show. Maybe even the old guy who played the narrator whose remembrances, as I remember, framed the series into a sort of made-for-tv epistolary story. I really liked that actor in so many things ... for example the frontiersman in "Little Big Man" who had several native wives and ended up marrying one with a beard comes to mind. <3

  • Seeing as how I'm a rational person I'd take any human over a bear. Even a murderer, rapist, psychopath. At least if it came down to it I'd stand a chance.

Death by bear is a brutal way to go. They are unpredictable animals that will leave you alone one minute and eat you alive in an instant. Unlike big cats they don't even give you the courtesy of killing you first.

  • @wilderdude Yep. We could ask Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend if they had not been eaten alive by a bear. A bear that he had studied in the wild without taking precautions.
@Tncompassion Lol, so much like some relationships I know.

  • @HarleyGirlKate That was a great show, I miss it.

  • I would choose the woman. The bear would probably hog the covers.

    For the entire winter!

  • I'm having a field day with these memes πŸ˜‚

    @Gracious~ Me, too! I love these! :)

  • I mean the logical answer is obvious. But honestly people’s experience will sway there decision

  • Bear. 100%.

I ran into bears on two hikes in the last year and got great pics with my long lens before they ran off. We both just avoided each other and enjoyed being out in the woods. Cool experiences, both.

On the other hand, I ran into women on a few hikes since I learned of this whole Man vs Bear thing. Almost panicked, but thankfully, I remembered my training. I slowed down to avoid catching up to them, made noise to alert them to my presence, and tried to look small and non-threatening (at 6'2", that's not easy). All the things the experts tell you. Still scary though. Much prefer bears.

Also, here are my two bears (long telephoto lens, thankfully).

Lovely shot of that bear on the road!

Black bears are wonderful in that they seem to always run off. I've never felt afraid of them, even as a teenager living in the mountains. Living in grizzly country now is a whole different thing. 😬

  • @MikeinDavis Good one. I like to raise my hands really high and yell. Then I say I left my wallet you're gonna have to treat me. Then I start spraying Axe every where. Works every time. 🐻 🐻 🐨 🐨

  • @MikeinDavis Oh! I know that look from the bear in the top photo - that's the "why are you still following me, cut it out already!" look!!

  • @Jubal - Funny story. I heard him coming through the trees about 50 yards above and got to aim my camera where I thought he'd cross the road. As he appeared, I was clicking away when he turned around and stared. I briefly thought "uh oh....", then the poor guy turned and bolted. I think we were both kinda scared at that moment.

PS - Shiny profile picture, btw.
