What are private and friend photos? How do I send photos to people?

There is an icon at the bottom right corner of the message box that allows you to attach photos to a message. Clicking on it brings up a menu with options: My Library, My Device and From URL. The last two let you select a single photo, either from your device or a website. The My Library option allows you to send or give people access to your non-public photos. The options are:

Grant access to all private photos: Share private photos.
Grant access to all friends-only photos: Share friends-only photos (only shown if they are not already on your friends list).
Attach specific photos to your message: Select individual photos to share.

However, when I view the "Send Message" page, the interface is not as described in the above quote. Instead, next to the "Send" button, there is another button with a camera icon. When I click that camera button, it displays a pop-up labeled "Attachments" that contains a list of photos I have previously sent to people. I can choose one or more of these to attach to the current message, or upload a new photo. I don't see the "My Library" option or any way to grant someone access to all of my Private or Friend photos (other than sending them as message attachments).

I am using Firefox on my mobile phone. I don't know if the interface is different on other browsers or devices.

@Cuddlestogo64 if your interface has an "edit profile" option, click that. Then see if there is an "edit photos" option. Under that there should be a way to add normal photos, and friend photos. Pictures under that option should be visible to those designated under CC as friends.

  • Hi @1_teddybear, thanks for your reply. I am @CuddlesToGo not @Cuddlestogo64. I didn't even realize there was another member with such a similar username!

Yes, I can change the Privacy setting on each of my profile photos to Public, Friends or Private. But the FAQ that I quoted from in my original post says there is a "My Library" menu that allows you to make Private and Friend photos available to an individual user, even if they are not designated as a Friend.

I am thinking that the website has changed since that was written. Perhaps @Mark knows whether this is the case, and perhaps @respectful could review and update that section of the FAQ if appropriate.

It appears now that the only way to share Friend photos with someone is for them to accept a Friend request, and that there is no way to share Private photos with anyone (other than sending them as a message attachment). Maybe the Private setting is there so that you can change it back to Public or Friend later without having to upload the photo again.

@CuddlesToGo You can share private photos. You go to send them a message, click on the camera beside the message box, and then click on private, and attach all. It gives them access to view your private photos. They have access with your other photos. (If you just send them, you can never delete them having that pic.) When you want to revoke it, go to settings, and go to shared picture albums, and hit revoke on the specific user.

  • @CuddlesToGo @CuddleHugs01234 I've asked @Mark about it; when I try sending a message (including to someone on the Friends list) and click on the camera icon, there doesn't seem to be a "private" option coming up for me (just the usual download window).

  • @respectful have you loaded any pics under private on your photo options? That has to be done first. Otherwise it has nothing to pull from.

  • @CuddleHugs01234 Ah, thanks for that.

@CuddlesToGo I've updated the photos section of the FAQ now (under "What are private and friend photos? How do I send photos to people?"):

  • For me...Friends photos don't show up to share but Private photos do if you have some by clicking the camera button. There is an Attachments and Private tabs at the top.
