Share your favorite 3 health fun facts

edited June 2024 in General

Feel free to post your top 3 Health fun facts. Not Concerned about right or wrong due to subjectivity and relative experiences. Just share 3 fun facts you didn't know or just found out or you already know and would like to share 😉

  1. There is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol BAD(LDL) and Good (HDL). Just like water and oil don't mix neither does blood and cholesterol. Cholesterol is more of a waxy substance and blood is mostly water. Cholesterol travels through the blood stream but Too much bad cholesterol causes sticky plague on the walls of your arteries due to waxy texture which causes health complications due to plaque making your arteries smaller. The Good Cholesterol are like Warriors on a battlefield they go and kill the plague on the side of the arteries then contain it in a protein shell and carries it through the bloodstream and transports it to the liver to be cleansed (nuts, seeds, olives, and exercise can help increase HDL.)

  2. Consuming Fiber acts like a pot scrapper in your intestines, fiber rolls into a ball as it goes through your intenstines picks up bacteria and other buildup, takes all the waste it adds to your stool to be discarded therefore helps cleaning your colon.

  3. losing weight is not the same as burning fat. You can burn fat and gain muscle therefore you lose inches off your waist from burning fat but you may stay same weight if you gain muscles because muscle weighs more

  • 1) Meat eaters tend to look healthier than vegetarians.

    2) In a way, any food that makes you happy is healthy because happiness is linked to good health. That said, a deep fried Twinkie is probably equivalent to a plate of brussel sprouts.

    3) Corporations spend millions of dollars in R&D trying to make plants taste like meat, but nobody has spent a single penny trying to make steak taste like a carrot.

    1) Using body lotion can add 10 years to your life span.
    2) Spermidine and spermine are enriched in whole blood of centenarians.
    3) Flaxseed is so powerful a food it's its own food group.

Diatomaceous earth can get rid of parasites and bad bacteria, but leave the good bacteria behind.

Potato starch is a prebiotic and feeds probiotics. Good to take at night on an empty stomach.

Castor oil can help grow your hair back especially good for African-Americans, also can heal your knee pain and put on the liver area for a couple hours every evening can heal the liver. Called the Castor oil liver pack, look it up.

This is a very smart thread

This is extremely informative ya know why isn't dome of this stuff taught in schools in fact the pharmaceutical companies don't even want us to know better ways to take care of ourselves they want us to stay sick so they can keep milking us for money. Sorry you probably see me as a nutty conspiracy theorist lol

  • Be careful of 'vegan sausages' and the like. Somebody once made me eat one, but it turned out there was absolutely no vegan in it at all.

  • 1) Fermented foods such as yogurt, sauerkraut, kim-chi, kombucha, and kefir are great for your gut microbiome (and are delicious - I eat them regularly)

    2) Simple walking is an incredibly effective (and grossly underrated) form of exercise

    3) Getting adequate, quality sleep is an essential element to good health. Proper diet and exercise are undermined if you are not getting enough quality sleep. Good quality sleep means a very dark and quiet environment (ambient light and noise reduces sleep quality). Temperature, consistency of bedtime, and avoiding alcohol, also play a factor in sleep quality.

That's crazy I've heard something similar about cod fish in stores isn't really cod when it was tested at a lab or how they inject chemicals in red meat to keep it red or how they can label a package natural asong as there some natural element but not all

  • @PeopleLikeUs i had no idea of that about lotion or about flaxseed. That makes me happy because I do use both!

    1) if you are sad or unhappy then working out - getting some good physical activity- and (in my case I love to sweat) sweating changes your mood dramatically- especially if you do it with friends - but even if you can do it alone-

    2) if you put cardboard into your compost pile and cover it with dirt, you have to wet it down too
It suffocates weeds and the worms like it and will eat it and break it down
** (this is a healthy and fun fact because gardens have fruits and vegetables and flowers which are healthy and beautiful which cause good feelings which is good for your health)

    3) watching the sunset and walking on the beach listening to the waves - is also a stress reliever,

  • 1) Martini olives ARE vegetables. It might take 7 martinis to reach your daily amount needed to improve your heart health, take in healthy fats, and boost fiber in your diet.

    2) There are as many bad things about drinking apple cider vinegar as there are good things: foremost is it erodes the enamel on teeth

    3) Herbs are vastly undervalued by most; we become infatuated with carbs, calories and fats. Add: Turmeric, Ginger, Cumin, Echinacea, Chili Powder and Parsley and your body with RESPOND in a positive manner.

Look up the definition of “natural flavors”, a very common ingredient in many foods. A “natural flavor” means that it is derived from something natural (I.e. fruit or vegetables) but the extraction process may involve the use of industrial chemicals/ solvents.

Also, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when I see chicken breasts at Walmart with a label that reads, “Enhanced with 12% solution”. 😳

If you don’t know what that means, allow me to translate. Walmart takes 8 oz of chicken, injects it with 1 oz of salt water and possibly a couple other chemical “enhancements” and then sells it to you as 9 oz of chicken.

The only beef I buy is 100% grass fed from a local farmer I personally know and it is processed in a family owned butcher shop.

  • 1: 528hz, 432hz, and 128hz (preferably in a pure tones sine wave) are all healing/calming/grounding sound frequencies.
2: Yawning helps to cool the brain.
3: Mosquitos are attracted to humans who have recently eaten bananas.

  • These are abosolutely fantastic posts great job @FutureHeart2023

Calisthenics- Pushups -Squats-Pullups- Anything resistance training will make you feel simply amazing.
The endorphins will definitely flow-You just have to get started-at any level-and push yourself and see how you feel after 2 weeks-It's not about how you look -its about how you feel.

Drink water all the time-dont wait till you are thirsty-If you only drink water you will save money and purify your blood.

This has been echoed many times by many members-But being outdoors in the Sun-Hiking -Swimming- Biking- Enjoy nature every day

Laugh as much as you can. this site helps with that.

  • Too much of a good thing can kill you. Like water for instance.

Eating just about anything in moderation can be helpful vs restricting items.

Make sure you drink plenty of water.

10,000 steps a day is a wrongly perceived health goal.

  • Add nutritional yeast to casseroles, sauces and soups. It does not affect the flavor but it adds an injection of vitamins and minerals most foods do not have.

Add chia seeds to salads and dishes if you struggle getting enough fiber in your diet. It won’t upset your stomach and it is magnificent for colon health.

Keep activated charcoal tablets on hand at home especially if you have children. If poison is ingested or you suspect a drug overdose, it binds to that and prevents absorption. It is what they give you in the emergency room anyways. It is cheap and you do not need a prescription.

  • @TheFunCartel

These are awesome, probably not the most often suggested tips-

I have also used charcoal when my kids were nautious and it worked wonders.

The Yeast is also good on toast with olive oil and on Popcorn

I put Chia seeds in all smoothies and sometimes just in water and drink it down.

@TheFunCartel: Those are all good tips, and I love nutritional yeast. I learned about it years ago from a vegetarian friend and find it pairs very well with both plant- and meat-based dishes. I think it is fun too rhat they make spiced versions too.

Lots of great tips on here!

    1. If you are having a vitamin D deficiency and have addressed it in other ways such as intentional sun exposure, diet, supplements, make sure you are getting enough magnesium. Magnesium, according to my doctor and confirmed in my experience, assists with vitamin D absorption.

    2. Find some form of movement you actually enjoy and work it into your life on a regular basis. Doesn't have to be a formal regimine, take long, or be something big. Movement, especially as one gets older, is oil ... no movement is rust.

    3. Spend a little time, even just one minute at the beginning or end of the day, thinking deeply about what and who you have to be thankful for and how you can work on overcoming or at least ameliorateing or coming to terms with what can't be changed in one of the current challenges in your life.

I'm still patiently waiting to take a nap with @JohnR1972! lol Sorry... That was wrong! lololol!!!

    Anywhoooo...

    1. Valerian root: Smells like dog poop mixed with dirty socks. HOWEVER, it is a cortisol antagonist, and takes the red, orange, and yellow areas off of your anxiety scale! If your body gets a dose of this, it WILL ignore the smell.. Happily, though, it tastes like cinnamon!

    2. Nattokinase or Serrapeptase: These are fibrinolytic enzymes that help to break up sludge-y blood. I like keeping my blood silky and moving, and I like breaking up the igloo-like bacterial biofilms in my blood and brain..

    3. Organic Coffee Enemas: Ewwwww... I know. HOWEVER, the coffee supplies the liver with Palmitic Acid.. A building block for the body's own Super Antioxidant, Glutathione. It keeps my skin soft and beautiful. <<Not "conceited," just convinced! :)

So does dog poop according to my dogs.

    😉

  • [Deleted User]Fematheist (deleted user)

@TheFunCartel~ Hahahahahahaha!!! YOU STAY OUT OF THIS!!!!!!!!!

  • @Fematheist - 😂
I never need naps. But I do average 7.2 hours of sleep per night and according to my Apple Watch, it is high quality sleep. I have put black tape over all the LEDs in my room (phone charger, router, and a few other electronic devices) and I have blackout curtains so my bedroom is totally dark.

I also use a HomePod streaming tones like @Originalirish suggested. There are 8 to 10 hour YouTube videos that play music based on 528 Hz or 369 Hz (and many others). I am experimenting to see what tones work best for me. I play them low and the room is otherwise silent so they don’t disturb my sleep and actually seem to be enhancing my sleep.

  • [Deleted User]Fematheist (deleted user)

@JohnR1972~ That actually sounds AWESOME... The idea of getting more than FOUR HOURS OF SLEEP!!!

HOWEVER, you glossed right over the fact that I'm STILL HOPING... okay...wait.. Um... Maybe you will read to me until I fall asleep, while cuddling, and we can discuss the value of black-out curtains? lol

I remember hearing/reading/finding that the three MOST IMPORTANT factors in health were allll free:

    1. Sunlight: In measured doses, of course, but it causes our bodies to create Vitamin D.
    2. Water: Our bodies are composed of somewhere upwards of 70% water, so replenishing it is vital!
    3. Sleep: Our bodies repair themselves during periods of sleep. No sleep--degenerative stress, lack of repair. Makes sense that we should prioritize sleep, eh?

^^^My trying to camouflage my shameless begging for JohnR1972 to ride his momocycle over here and cuddle me!! lol

  • @jillyain It's important to eat flaxseed hopefully within 20 minutes but not longer than 2 hours after grinding it. Don't buy pre-ground flaxseed.

  • @Fematheist - Oh, I don’t have a motorcycle. I do long distance bike rides. My longest was 160 miles in a day when I rode from Terra Haute, IN to Richmond, IN (just a couple miles short of Illinois to Ohio). I do usually do short (20-40 mile) rides a couple times per week and longer (50-100 mile) rides once or twice a month plus a little mountain biking in Southern Indiana. I love being out in nature and even when I am riding on the road, I am still getting

  • This was extracted from a monthly report of the Miner Institute (an incredible research farm at upstate NY), from a retired member (Ev Thomas):

    OUR HAPPY PLACE
Being out and around working the land is a farmer’s “happy place”, and now there’s scientific proof of it. A soil microbe, Mycobacterium vaccae, has been found to mirror the effect of neurons in the brain; this effect is similar to that of drugs such as Prozac but with none of the nasty side effects. M. vaccae causes cytokine levels to rise, leading to the production of serotonin — and serotonin makes us feel relaxed and happy. Conversely, a lack of serotonin has been linked to depression, anxiety, OCD and bipolar disorders. Laboratory tests have confirmed that this soil microbe results in less stress and better concentration, and scientists have found no adverse effects of any kind. It’s also being studied for possible health benefits related to Crohn’s disease and arthritis.
Farmers are in frequent contact with M. vaccae by getting soil on their hands and other body parts, by inhaling dust from cropland, and by getting it into their bloodstreams via the nicks and cuts that are a regular part of life on the farm. The old suggestion “Rub some dirt on it” following a small injury might just turn out to be excellent medical advice.

  • @Maverick07 good stuff how do we get a hold of this just go out in the dirt

  • When my sister used to say let's go play in the mud she probably had some thing there

  • @KozyKim I think so, although I am not sure of the abundance and distribution of that specific microbe in different types of soil, locations, etc. Gardening is a nice activity to get the hands "dirty" too.
And I agree, your sister already knew something 😉

  • Carnivore is the healthiest diet. Limiting salt is a myth. Most people are very iodine deficient take lugols iodine. Us has so many foods that are banned in other countries

  • I love this thread.

    1. Grounding at least 10 minutes a day helps with stress levels.

    2. Sodium Hydroxide that is in many soaps and body washes is known as the “Lye Soap” from years past, this ingredient advances aging, so find alternatives and look at everything you in-jest and put on your skin. Natural ingredients are best.

    3. Breathing deeply can improve circulation, decrease anxiety levels and reduce blood pressure.

  • @Hollydollhugs you Musta did away with that lye soap years ago, you're so beautiful!!
