Building a tiny cuddle house

I've just installed a tiny summerhouse in my garden. When it's not being an office, it might be nice for it to be an Ultimate Cosiness Sanctuary. I'd love to hear people's ideas on what to do with it!

Tricky bits:

  • It's very small (1.8m across)
  • It does need to be an office during the week, and there's not room for both office things and cosy things, so anything I put there has to be small/foldable/transportable. There's a shed where I could potentially stash things when I'm not using them.
  • Wooden floorboards
  • It's a bit of a trek back to the flat, but I do have power (via a battery)
  • Doesn't have (or need) heating yet, but I'll eventually install a small caravan heater

    My first thought is 'lack of plumbing' or at least 'access to plumbing?' Presumably the trek to your flat isn't too onerous?

    That's the only practical thoughts that I have. Everything else that comes to mind is irreverent humor.

    I think it’s a wonderful idea! Possibilities are endless! I have a lot of ideas of what you could do with that (my design background)
    No matter where you’re cuddling it’s pretty common to visit the bathroom before you start. I don’t see that as a problem.

    I love tiny houses and stuff like that!!! Hosting and prepping can be a lot of work, how close is the shed? I think filling it with a mattress and possibly one of those hanging swings that you could cozy up in would be wonderful. Maybe even just popping a hammock in there, a hanging one would be an easy add, with two good, sturdy hooks.

    For me, I would only ask trusted cuddlers that feel safe with you to join you there. It wouldn’t be a newbie thing for me because I don’t want to trek into the woods or a secluded place with a new cuddler. But I love the concept and it looks wonderful.

    Can you tell me where you purchased it from, local or something that can be ordered? Or was it something you built yourself? Do you live in an area that doesn’t need heat and air most of the time? I think the bathroom issue is easily solved by letting them use your normal restroom and trek back as needed.

    Thanks everyone! To answer questions:

    • It's four flights of stairs and a couple of doors to the flat - that's close enough for plumbing, I think.
    • The shed is maybe 20 metres away at the other end of the garden. Anything I put there will be well looked after by the resident giant spiders (they love cuddles).

    • I'm in London, so it'll be okay without heat for a few months, then I reckon the caravan heater will get it through the autumn, and it'll probably be out of action over winter. Unless I decide to go crazy with the heaters and turn it into a sauna :).
    • It's only 6ft3 across at the widest point.. maybe just about big enough for massages, if you don't offer them to tall people? (Luckily most of my cuddle friends are quite small)
    • Hammock is a nice idea, but I don't know if it can work in a small space. I guess it does really need a mattress, though that's going to be tricky to store.
    • And yeah, this is definitely a space for close friends, I ain't inviting no internet randoms to my "cabin in the woods" :)

    What a super cool idea and VERY interesting! Out here in CO there are million people who love to go car camping.

    I've seen a mattress/sleeping area that gets lifted UP out of the way and then everything is stored underneath. Maybe your desk/work space could have the ability to be lowered and wind up UNDER the coziness with just a small side table for drinks and things. SUPER COOL idea!!
    This brilliant guy added a hoist so it was a bit easier. 😊

    The building isn’t that tall, but neither am I, so it might be workable. I like the idea of pressing a big red TRANSFORM button at 5pm and the hoist kicks into action..
