We went out for ice cream last night because it'll be awhile before he can enjoy it again.

Hang in there 🤗 chemo is tough, but there's a lot of support to help him and your family through. I don't know if you'll be his primary helper/caretaker, but if you ever need to vent - I've been there as I cared for my mom through her chemo. Sending you both well wishes and don't forget to take care of yourself!
I hope you and he have more ice cream outings, as you're both able. Those little things matter most. Being a caregiver for others can be rough, so don't forget to give yourself time and show yourself grace.

I have been around several people who have had chemo. It’s a tough treatment and the big C is an even tougher diagnosis. I wholeheartedly believe that you will be fine because you had the emotional IQ to reach out to a community for support and I think I speak for a lot of people when I say we are in your corner pulling for your dad. Please come here whenever you feel you need to be lifted up.
