Cuddling dogs thru the fireworks

My sister has to work tonight, and since I got my partying out of the way last night, she asked me to come spend the evening with her doggos.

I have always loved her dogs (a Shiba Inu and a Min Pin) and getting chances cuddling with them. But never have they been as willing to cuddle endlessly as tonight. From the moment I sat down, they both have been snuggled up with me ever since.

I feel bad that the fireworks stress them out, but glad that my presence seems to calm them, and glad, for my sake, for some dog cuddles tonight. ❤️

    For anyone that still has fireworks going off throughout the weekend, here is a few options that helps some animals

    ▪︎ Close blinds and curtains to shut out flashes. Turn the TV on with volume turned up a bit to help drown it out.
    ▪︎ Calming music or white noise can also provide a distraction.
    ▪︎ Pair this with some treats as a distraction too.

    Thankfully my cat is unfazed and has even looked out the window at us shooting fireworks before.

    I love reading this post and about your sisters dogs that you cuddled. Fireworks are so traumatic to them. I remember those days.
    My little dog, Sam was a Min Pin and I still miss him so much!
    He’s been gone for 6 years, hard to believe!
    For a long time, we lived near a lake right next to where the fireworks were set off and it was very difficult for him, lots of hugs and his blanket helped.

    Sam sounds like a sweet little guy.

    My sister's min pin, Ozzie, is a sweet little guy too. But he also seems to have some strong emotions, he just goes crazy whenever someone gets to the house and takes forever to calm down 🥺

    Just seeing this. I was talking to her friend about this recently. There are some sedative treats that can help dogs as well as a thunder shirt for pets. I believe it’s similar to like a weighted blanket.

    I'm glad cuddling helped them! The only danger there is the possibility of causing dependence and separation anxiety, during those stressful sounds.

    I've read to play with your dog and get them focused on a toy or game of fetch, so they stop paying so much attention to the sounds and begin to associate them with something fun and positive. I also bump this up a notch by giving my little dude peanut butter, spread around his food bowl so it takes him awhile to be able to get it all.

    Also, like @LadyVel, I turn on music a bit loud if we're leaving the house, so the fireworks aren't as noticeable. 🎶🎚

    Poor little things, though...I always feel so bad when I see dogs brought to loud events or festivals with crazy loud music and noises. They're so much more sensitive than we are. 🥺
