Name A time you escaped DEATH

When I was married there was particular day we got in a heated argument in the car while driving. We came to a red-light but when the light turned green I didn't move for 3 to 5 seconds because of the focus on the argument which to this day still don't know what it was about. Lol

Right when I was about to drive forward since it was green an 18th wheeler semi truck BLEW threw the red light at full speed on other side of.the intersection. Me and my wife stopped and remain stunned.

From that day forward we never had argument in the car ever again even tho....strange enough the argument saved our lives ironically. 😵😶😱

    I was driving in the middle of the night, on a four lane divided highway. I was in my left lane, about to pass a car, when suddenly I saw headlights in front of me. (A car driving the wrong way.) I was barely able to react and swerve fast enough.

    After that I researched the odds of surviving head on collisions at highway speed. They're extremely low.

    Since then I've had a whole different awareness driving on 2-lane non-divided highways, which pose a much greater risk of head on collision.

    I've escaped death a number of times.

    The two that were most memorable were both during my time in the military. Partially lost hearing in one ear the one time; the other I was physically unharmed but had some other issues I had to deal with. Don't want to get into details on here.

    Fortunately, I was able to stay in the Guard and between that and my time on active duty, I retired in my 40s. Started receiving my pension this year, so I'm pretty happy about that. 🦅

    There's two things I can think of. The first was leaving high school after sophomore year. If I'd stayed the full four years, I don't know if the death would have been mine, someone else's, or both, but I would definitely have been involved.

    The other was driving home on the highway at night, doing about 75mph. I had passed a car that had been swerving a bit, and was a good bit ahead of it but I was still keeping an eye on it in the rearview mirror. Suddenly, in front of me, right in the middle of my lane, was a deer. I hadn't even fully registered its presence when I slammed on the brakes and swerved. As I was passing it, I had plenty of time to think that where there's one deer, there's likely more. I glanced in the median, and sure enough, there was another deer standing there. So I adjusted my course back a little closer to the first deer but still behind it in case the second deer made a leap for it. Once I finished passing the deer, time returned to normal and I shook from adrenaline overload for the next 10 minutes.

    I've been lucky. Never even a broken bone.

    I've had my life threatened by irate renters three times. I was responsible for By Laws enforcement at my condo community ( 168 Units) and a few situations ended in eviction notices.

    I'm thankful for the hidden Sig Sauer on my person...always.

    Getting squeezed off the road by a semi trailer and then clearing it by reflex so my car missed by an inch or so.It happened so fast that there wasn't any time to think.

    I was flying into Iraq on a military C-130 in 2010 when the airplane detected an infrared lock. They immediately started deploying flares as countermeasures for any heat-seeking missile that might be launched. We made it safely, but that was my introduction to Iraq.

    Hmm, I escaped death when a shooting took place right behind me. Luckily it hasn’t affected me at all (hooray for depression I guess).

    There were plenty of dangerous situations while growing up in a farm.
    My "I guess that's it" moment happened when I was around 7, 8 years old: I fell in some type of silo and was fairly close to be totally submerged (and die of asphyxiation).

    In 1979 I had a serious motorcycle accident. Less than a day later, I coded due to one of the many complications. For 4.5 minutes, I was clinically dead and had a near death experience. The short story is that I went to the light and was given the choice to stay or go back. Here it is 45 years later and it's still like it was yesterday.

    A virus attacked my heart in 2013. En route to the hospital my heartrate shot up in the 270's and I stopped breathing. Had to be cardioverted which I found out was not a pleasant feeling. Every time I think of that day I thing of the song "Fade to Black" by Metallica.

    I escaped death once on the operating table. Plus a second operation I had a pulmonary embolism.
