"Good Hygiene"

In many profiles, I see a message such as this:

"Good hygiene is important to me. Please make sure you have showered and brushed your teeth before our session."

Is this actually an issue people have encountered? Or is it more of just a situation they want to protect against?

I feel like anyone with at least two brain cells to knock together knows to take a shower and brush their teeth (at the very least) before they closely curl up with someone, right?

Or am I over-estimating my fellow man?

  • Kind of depends on the person, some people go blind to their own smell, some people just don’t really care.
Some people might deal with depression and find things like that to be too difficult so a reminder is good.
Sadly you’re definitely overestimating people as a general whole, of course loads of people care about hygiene but yeah…others don’t/won’t for many reasons.
Oh and yeah, some people definitely just aren’t smart enough to think about that, few I would hope, but they definitely exist.

    @tiredandchill 💯

Yes!! It’s Reality and you might be surprised that It’s not uncommon at all for someone to have an unpleasant odor during cuddling!

But to qualify my statement, only 2 (and quite a while ago) out of so many sessions I had, were really unpleasant.
But they were such great Cuddlers. I just dealt with it.
Speaking from only my experiences as a pro,
(I did emphasize hygiene in my profile!)
That word seems to be a little subjective. And interpretation seems to be pretty personal.

⭐️I think it’s a fact that our diets can play a big role in our body odor.⭐️

Showering and brushing teeth are just common sense and I believe most people will do that before a session .
But Individuals have a natural odor that may be OK to some and not to another.
I happen to be very sensitive to odors. I have a strong sense of smell, I guess.
But I am not allergic to scents or lotion and so a little bit of fresh clean after-shower spray is nice.

  • Pro-good hygiene, here.

  • @g_w_t_w I wholly agree with everything you’ve said here, well written, and honestly hadn’t even thought about how odours are subjective like that great point.
can definitely see how diet would be a factor as well that makes a lot of sense.

  • Just ran into my neighbor named Gene and said "Hi, Gene!".

Yes, hygiene is a real problem. It's nothing to do with cuddling, it's a societal issue. No, it isn't just men. There are a lot of people out there who look clean on the outside who aren't nearly as clean as you would hope when you get close.

In my experience the best horror stories come from the beauty industry, especially the intimate waxing people.

Separately, humans do respond differently do each others' natural scent and that's why you can never be sure you will want to cuddle somebody until you meet them. It's not a judgement or a choice, it's basic, animal/instinctive compatability.

Separately again, a very few people have medical conditions (diagnosed or undiagnosed) which are essentially unavoidable and which can give rise to unpleasant smells. At school I had a good acquaintance who stank to high heaven in spite of being very obviously the cleanest kid in the school. It was eventually traced to a very-difficult-to-remove-completely bacterial infection. By chance I met him a few years later on a train and the odour, assuming it wasn't imaginary, could only be detected by trained nose like me. If you just met him you wouldn't have noticed.

Oh, and if the cuddle is in somebody house as it frequently is, many hosts (professional or otherwise) will be perfectly happy for you to take a quick shower when you arrive. This can be useful if, for example, the session is after a long, hot today. And I heard of at least one occasion when a first-time but perfectly good client had had some kind of incident during the day: the professional took one look at him and threw him in the shower, for which he was very grateful. Definitely worth asking nicely beforehand if needs be.

  • Heh I just commented about this in a different thread. It’s in the client service agreement:

“Cleanliness and adequate hygiene is required by both parties. This specifically includes showering/teeth brushed within 12 hours of the appointment, wearing freshly laundered clothing, and no (or minimal) perfume/cologne be worn by both parties unless requested.”

  • At a relatively young age I started wearing suits frequently for competitions, events, and for work upon graduating. I was taught early on that someone should always wear an undershirt so less likely to sweat through to your dress shirt. It’s a habit I’ve continued even in recent years on jobs that I wore a suit and tie daily. Pit stains while in a business meeting sends a bad impression, and are hard to get out at the dry cleaners. I share all that because it takes a lot for me to noticeably sweat, while many people I know sweat profusely relatively easily.

Some people I know work in environments with particularly strong smells, but over time they get desensitized to how unpleasant it is for regular people.

There are lots of factors that contribute to why someone may neglect or be unaware of their hygiene. Having that reminder on most profiles hopefully helps as a refresher to make or take extra steps before meeting to cuddle.

  • I think some people don’t realize that good hygiene when you’re working in an office is much different than good hygiene when you’re cuddling someone for 3 hours. In an office you’re really not supposed to be touching anyone. And probably at least a cubical wall away from the next person most of the time. So if you’re going to work it’s usually okay if you shower the night before. However, that’s not going to cut it if you’re spooning. So it’s always best to do kind of washing up right before a session.

  • Hygiene isn't perfumes, colognes, deodorant or breath mints. It's before all that. Clean body, hair and clothes. Less scents are better.
Although I do recommend deodorant and breath fresheners.

  • @starrynitecuds - 100% agree. I have gone all natural and virtually scent free on all personal care products.

  • @Twinight

The last 2 men I saw smelled so bad I had to breathe through my mouth. One even got to a hotel before me and said he showered, but there was NO WAY that happened. His breath was also awful. In general, men have awful hygiene. I didn't notice it when I lived on the east coast where people were cognizant of themselves and surroundings.

For days after seeing stinky men, I cannot get their stench out of my memory either.

  • @CharlieBear

What do you recommend should be done if a client shows up and smells bad? I met with someone who drove from his warehouse job after work to meet me. He smelled horrific. Should we tell everyone to not meet unless they go home to shower and clean themselves first? I just don't want to go through smelling that stink again. 😩

  • Hygiene is immaculate

  • Logiene is great also

  • Its the midgiene

  • Most women I know really appreciate that I get manicures and pedicures. Also put some lotion on your hands feet and ashy elbows.

  • showering/teeth brushed within 12 hours of the appointment

I think this rule should be superseded. If you can't get them to shower at your place, this could work only in certain conditions (e.g.: no manual/heavy work; in summer, non-stop A/C from the shower to the session and so on). If I was a pro, I would talk to the customer to ask his conditions before the session and politely direct him to how to fulfill minimum requirements (and refuse the booking in case of a missed agreement).

  • There was a pro back in the day, she hasn’t been on the site in years. I remember a couple guys I know on here had sessions with her and said she was great but had an odd smell. I had a session with her and yes she was great but definitely had an odd smell. It was kind of a mediciney smell. To this day I have no idea what it was. I wouldn’t call it bad hygiene but it was a strange smell. Not necessarily pleasant but not necessarily bad, more just strange.

  • Oh, yeah, I remember her.

  • Maybe you were the strange smell 👀

I saw a reddit post about this a few weeks, specifically about showering, and entered it thinking the same thing as you.

What I read in that thread left me a touch traumatized.

Never underestimate humanity's ability to...uh, "surprise" you.

  • I'm horrified for that poor Pro. Some medical conditions can have strong, unusual odors as a side effect, and/or the medication/medicine can cause it. Diabetes, yeast infections, etc. are common culprits. Some body chemistries just doesn't react well to certain scents, either. I was just talking with a friend how I can't take fish oil capsules as they seep through my pores and make me taste fish constantly. Blech! I also avoid garlic and onions before cuddling, because they can be harsh odors in close proximity.

  • [Deleted User]MaverickLegend (deleted user)

I usually drink pineapple juice before cuddling

If somebody shows up and stinks that bad, I don’t think it would be unreasonable to just make them get up right then and take a shower or whatever. Just say you won’t continue otherwise. Keep a bar of antibacterial soap and a factory sealed new toothbrush and toothpaste on you. Otherwise it’s off-putting to remind people about basic hygiene before you even meet. Until they have proven themselves otherwise, I’m of the opinion that it would be prudent to expect a lovely interaction with someone. Preventative announcements and reminders don’t come across very nicely and as we see here in this very thread, they don’t even work with the people that they were designed for, so what’s the point? It just sounds prematurely negative and demeaning without actually accomplishing anything.

  • Is this actually an issue people have encountered?

    YES! YES!😖

@Twinight Yes, especially with co-workers that I unfortunately have the displeasure of working along side of. A lot of stanking armpits having, and garbage breath individuals have appeared (and disappeared) at my job (and other various jobs that I have held in the past) over the years that I have worked there.😌

As far as cuddlers go, yep I had a cuddler with bad breath😖 that I did POLITELY brought up during conversation ( to him) before cuddling with him further. 😊

Elsewhere, I have read of other's experiences getting in intimate settings with individuals (unknowingly) with poor body and oral hygiene practices. My own mother has shared her "close encounters" experiences with individuals ( yes these were with mostly men) of "the stanking kind" with me over the years! 😖😖
So YES my "wash your ass/Listerine is your friend" disclaimer definitely WILL STAY PUT in my profile summary.😁👍

  • Brushed teeth and shower 12 hours before a cuddle seems nuts to me. I'd not get in someone personal space with a a much more recent cleaning. I mean you have to be de- loused to go to jail and they aren't getting that close to each other.

  • I feel like anyone with at least two brain cells to knock together knows to take a shower and brush their teeth

    👍👍👍👍

@Twinight This is GOOD that you feel that way, it really is. Keep that feeling never lose it!😁

am I over-estimating my fellow man?

You are indeed, as there are many (out in the world) who don't comprehend the phrase of: Wash Your Ass Please! 😁👍

  • I think that people don't realize one of the most memorable things that people hold from you is your scent. If it's good it is attached to every part of the memory same as if it's bad. A light or neutral scent likely won't be a memory but stink lasts forever.

I don’t think it would be unreasonable to just make them get up right then and take a shower

@hoosierdan76 I don't think it would be unreasonable for said individuals to do this beforehand, therefore there would be no need for me "to make them" do anything.😊

Just say you won’t continue otherwise.

📢📢 I do loud and clear, in my profile and during conversation with said cuddler. 🗣🗣

Keep a bar of antibacterial soap and a factory sealed new toothbrush and toothpaste on you.

Or they can provide, THEIR OWN antibacterial soap and factory sealed toothbrush with toothpaste and mouthwash! And let's not forget DEODORANT!🧼🪥🧴🛁

Now, I can provide the shower 🚿with a polite courtesy warning of:

"Hey Katota, it was rough day at 'XZY' and I'm running behind for our cuddle time today. May I use your bathroom/shower 🚿🛁to get cleaned up before we cuddle?"

I can be reasonably accommodating when asked politely, and I will even provide a washcloth and towel for them to use. 😁😉

it’s off-putting to remind people about basic hygiene before you even meet

    I disagree.😏

Preventative announcements and reminders don’t come across very nicely

Perhaps so, however cuddling someone with funky underarms and bad breath doesn't come across "very nicely" to me either.😌😖🤨😐

I’m of the opinion that it would be prudent to expect a lovely interaction with someone.

Cuddling someone with poor oral and body hygiene practices is NOT that "lovely" of an interaction to me...So, I disagree.😊

It just sounds prematurely negative and demeaning

    Again, I disagree. 😁
