It's Health to Reflect Upon One's Life on Occasion

Overall, I would have to say I have had a pretty good life up until the last 10 years where it has been more of a struggle and difficult. As a relatively positive person, I am continually on the search for healthy solutions and there is one technique I have found to be consistently helpful---self-reflection! Self-reflection includes a through deep dive examination of all periods of one's life--and is always a great self-improvement exercise. Recently-I purchased a used car that as the same manufacturer of my High School car, a Mazda. That memory brought back several good memories leading to following two group

What is your worst?

  • This is honestly a great question, and I wholly agree!
Self reflection is a super useful tool for understanding yourself/how you feel, as well as good for just remembering the nice things that have happened.

Personally I had a…for lack of a better word weird childhood, not the best situation with my dad and home.
So my best memory is honestly from when I was an early teen, I had kind of given up on talking to my dad about feelings and went to my mum, fantastic woman btw, I told her how I felt about my situation honestly.
and for the first time in a few years I got understanding. She didn’t shut down anything I was saying, she just respectfully sat there and listened with care.

My worst is kind of a blur, I’m sure there’s a memory that might stick out from the rest but really…just being under my dads roof.

This feels kind of like trauma dumping but I’m saying it because I’m thankful, I found out my mum is the best person on the planet, I realized how bad everything was and worked towards changing it.
And now? I’m in so much better of a place BECAUSE of that. I know what a healthy relationship can look like with someone, I care and feel deeply, I don’t shut out the parts of me that are really ME.
Things like cross dressing were somewhat driven by that for me, because it felt okay to do those things around mum.

  • Best would have to be the D&D games I played in high school. A close second might be the time a bully went too far in pestering me and I snapped and beat him up. I seem to recall feeling a great deal of satisfaction at that.

The worst is between me and my therapist.

Best would be my entire last semester of high school. I had taken honors classes for the past three and a half years, so now I barely had any classes. I had gotten into a good school, away from home which I knew would be incredible for me. I spent the majority of my time just hanging out with friends, dropping in the classes of teachers I was friends with, and playing a lot of music. We played a musical at the end of that semester - my first one ever - and every day after rehearsals or shows I'd go to the local pizza shop with the guitarist, one of my best friends at the time, and just hang out. Was honestly the most blissful time of my childhood, I miss it.

Worst is actually one of my earliest memories - being in pre-K and a little girl is laughing at me and calling me a weirdo. It was the first time I recognized I wasn't like the majority of people around me, and it stuck with me all through my childhood until I got to college and sought out people more like me. I don't even remember what started it, I just remember them laughing and me crying. Bad time, man.

  • Thank you for the responses---I learn what makes people tick---by sharing--other people have the perspective to understand you better and by sharing--in most cases you feel better about yourself. The post is not intended to be invasive--to the contrary it is meant to be helpful and uplifting

  • I learn=I love to learn

  • My best memories are when I used to go fishing with my dad, and sometimes we would go camping just so we could fish even longer.
A close second would be the memories I made with my best friends in high school. They are all moved away in different provinces now and I haven’t seen them since.
Worst is too tough to choose, but probably the time when I was 9 and got my hand crushed in an ice rink door and thought I wouldn’t survive it. And then my grandma died that same week.
