Do y’all get a lot of ear wax and if so, what do you do to mimimize and or clean it?
Serious question.
Get a syringe and fill it with water. Don't put anything else in your ear including q-tips.
There are a number of ear wax removal products available at a local pharmacy.
I use the Van Gogh Method.
@gem7 Are you a pharmacist by chance? 🤣
@TheFunCartel Lol. No, but I guess it looked like I was pushing a sale. I don't know how the double post happened.
Hydrogen peroxide in the ear works wonders. Rinse and repeat. It’s what they use in a doctor’s office.
I’ve tried hydrogen peroxide and OTC stuff. I just produce a lot of dang ear wax. Maybe I need to use that stuff more often.
@TheFunCartel
I was like wtf is the Van Gogh method? I was like I know this is a smart ass comment…. Oh wait, ear, Van Gogh 🤣🤣🤣
Seems WebMD might be a better place to look for this info than a cuddle site.
My eardrums are shot, so I’m not worried about damaging them. As such, I have one of those endoscope tools and scrape my ears out whenever I feel the need. If your eardrums aren’t as messed up as mine, you can use the tool still, you’ll just have to be a bit more careful. FWIW, I see an ENT and an audiologist somewhat regularly. Regular visits to the ENT might be helpful for you. I used to love getting my ears vacuumed as a kid.
@WriterGF
I wouldn’t think a cuddle site would be a good place to find arguments and anger but here we are on a daily basis 🤣
I use q-tips. I did it cautiously and carefully as a doctor would. I understand guidance is given for people who are careless and do things that harm them. As far as my exams are concerned I've found A1 results. I've don't the water method, I've used the rubbery type things, they work but nothing makes me feel cleaner that qtips with warm water. But I'm not endorsing that method just sharing my results and method. As not a doctor with clean worry free ears.
😆😆😆
@TheFunCartel Ah ha! No ears, no ear wax...You might be on to something there!🤔😆
I had noticed some hearing issues last week, and I ended up at Urgent Care to have them clean out my ears safely, but there wasn't any wax buildup in them, and I didn't have an ear infection. I have an ENT appt next week.
@WriterGF , 😂 thank you for giving the best advice.. Cuddle site MD we're not. I'm tickled.
A doctor once told me, "Don't put anything smaller than your elbow into your ears."
Truly, due to risk of injury (think rupturing the ear drum), we shouldn't be using q-tips, and certainly not the tools that the ear doctors use to dig out ear wax. They not only know what they're doing - they can see exactly what they're doing; we cannot.
That said, I've never used q-tips or a liquid kit. But I'm still "bad"...I use the nails on my pinky fingers to carefully swirl around inside my ears, every single time I shower. Been doing it for probably two decades. Only had wax in one ear, once in that time, and I'm guessing it was impacted from before I started doing it. As @BashfulLoner said, I'm not recommending anyone do it, but it has worked very well for me.
@Morpheus Yes, it just sounds like you need to do maintenance more regularly.

Wasn’t that a commercial way back? The elbow in the ear thing?
No, no, no, that's all nonsense. What you need is a trombone pull-through.
Thread it in one ear and out the other and 'pull it through'. Cleans out the whole system - both ears obviously - like magic.
I use a-tips a lot. When I was married, I would have my wife do ear candling occasionally. Now I wear hearing aids and I cleaned them daily, especially after a shower. Otherwise, I get built up on the hearing aid. I’ve also bought ear cleaning tools off of Amazon.
I don't know if it was a scam, but I remember having seen a web advertising with a sort of "corkscrew shaped q-tips" designed to avoid the dangers that @SunsetSnuggles kindly taught/reminded us.
@starrynitecuds: sorry to hear (no pun intended) that. I hope you are well.
@CuddleDuncan: for whole system do you mean brainwashing included?
@Morpheus If it was a commercial, I've never seen it. hehe My doctor said it to me and I thought it was hilarious.
@Falco My mom tried those soft, rubber corkscrew things. They didn't pick up any wax, for her, but she said they didn't hurt at all. They are designed with a thick handle so it isn't supposed to be possible for it to go deep enough to do damage.
I've used the bulbs from the ear wax cleaning kits; the ones where you are supposed to suck warm water (and solution?) to clean the ears out. Except I use the bulb to suck out the ear wax. It has been very effective for the few times I have needed to do it. I know that it is the "proper" use for that thing and I'm not necessarily saying to try it ... but I am saying that has worked for me before.
The commercial mentioned above was for Q-Tips. I can't remember the male actor's name, but I did find the commercial: [Q-Tip Ear Cleaning]
I do have a suggestion if you want to clean your inner ear with a Q-Tip: Put any kind of clear gel on the tip before inserting it in your ear and insert it VERY SLOWLY. The reason for the gel: The skin inside your ear is extremely thin - and rests on the bones so it is easily irritated or scratched. The instant you feel the swab touching anything near the back of the ear, pull it out just a little and gently rub around the ear cavity. The gel will helps loosen the wax and help the swab grab that wax and helps keep the swab from scratching delicate skin.
I'm not an audiologist or a doctor - just someone who as to clean his ears every day and is a big believer in "Aural Hygiene" (and bad puns). You may be asking: "What gel to use"? At the risk of getting flagged, I recommend any water-based personal lubricant. Remember, if you do this, "less is more" meaning you are better off just getting a little wax out each time you insert the swab rather than trying to scoop it out 'en masse'. Don't get greedy – do some today and some tomorrow. HTH YMMV!
@Atlantapilotguy That commercial was a hoot! I think all of America had him on mute regarding where it should and shouldn't go, though. 😆
@CuddleDuncan It seems that device would conveniently clean out the cobwebs between the ears, too.
Makes a great gift.
Yup that’s the one, I remember that commercial well.
