I have been the victim 2wice now over the last month of women in their 30's of european decent.

The 1st time I was going the speed limit and getting tailed. The person decided to sit on their horn and then proceeded to pass by yelling and cursing.

The 2nd time I was making a right turn and the person was making a U-turn and proceeded to sit on the horn, catch up to me and cuss me out. I have never been called a bitch before but there is a first time for everything I guess.

Are my incidents just random or are women of european decent out here turned up and bout that life?

Mind you im not a small person who looks like a boy scout. But these two incidents make me want to cross the street when I come across a group of 3 or more. Which really feels like it would be pre civil rights again...

    You might want to narrow that down :astonished:

    IT is very true however that different areas of the U.S. have the residents driving at different 'normal speeds'. A back lane in Kansas compared to the frenzy of Los Angeles in which we have to be road warriors every time we start our cars.

    What would civil rights have to do with two people acting out driving? I see this kind of thing everyday, and the people are all races, both male and female. You can be a jerk regardless of your background

    People get honked at, tailgated, cut off, etc. every day by people of all races and creeds. Bad/aggressive driving is not a trait of any one race or ethnic group. Not sure why you would think it was?

    My bad for a bit more clarification. Is entitlement becoming a thing again? Or maybe its just because of furiosa or whatever the new mad max movies were.

    @WriterGF because of the experience I had with two people of the same race.

    So basically the sentiment is aggressive, angry drivers are becoming a norm and they exist within everyone on matter race creed or color!!

    Try driving anywhere in Boston at rush hour, where they're doing 80 or 90 in the breakdown lane. Where I live, they've been busting people for driving 120 mph on the highway, or driving the wrong way. Stats show that post-pandemic road safety has gotten way worse. Just in CT, there have been 245 traffic deaths so far this year.

    When I was traveling the country for two years, I found it quite fascinating that different states use their horns in completely different ways.

    In Colorado where I grew up, if someone honks, it's because they are pissed, or are trying to prevent an accident.

    In the south, I experienced several states where the locals use their horns very lightly as a means of friendly communication. Things like tapping their horn and waving to tell someone they're letting them in...

    It was pretty hilarious, to me. Who knew this aggressive murder button could be used with sweet intent? 😅

    @UglyDuckling i believe the aggressive and angry is becoming an issue in this country, especially while driving. Baffling to me.

    I'm not sure how civil rights entered the conversation, but i do believe getting honked at heavily does make one a victim. Is that victimhood a serious thing, probably not, i personally don't even notice people behaving badly anymore. I chalk that up as you know people being people.

    I also believe however you looks makes people feel more than likely to behave a certain way because if you respond it may automatically turn them into a victim. I've had incidents when i respond to nonsense with the exact word "excuse me " and the reaction is directly related to who would begin to see the interaction from that point. The phone cam of it all, equally nonsensical and weak.

    We are a nation of bad behavior, poor manners, silly defensive stances and the reversal of victimhood. Just silly and simple.

    I didn't, but I sure wish motorcycles and wanna-be street racers would get fined for purposefully breaking noise ordinances at 2:00 in the morning. 😆

    It depends on the country. If they were Italian, I can tell you that's how pretty much everyone drives there. I also hosted a italian foreign exchange student who confirms the whole country has road rage lol

    @SunsetSnuggles I didn’t know that about the south. I’ve been to a few other countries where the honking is a non aggressive communication. Basically, hey I’m here. Don’t hit me. Even saw bumper stickers on trucks asking for a honk to avoid an accident. The cheerful honking was something to experience. 😀

    It took me days to deprogram so I could recognize that everybody wasn’t angry all the time!

    I will say that in the south a light tap is normal, but I've also had a pistol shown if someone thought i was showing out trying to race or something. But for the most part i believe manners are more prevalent down south.

    I had the exact same scenario happen to me twice as well, in the same intersection, different mornings.... BUT the people driving were entirely different from yours. They were both actually men in trucks who were literally smoking pot while driving during morning traffic. Explain that

    If I tallied up the ethnicity/race of other drivers who have hit me over the years (especially those who hit me while I was on a motorcycle), the result would be disproportionately non-white. But I don't attribute skin color to those individuals being careless or reckless drivers.

    Now, those ******* cellphones they were playing with at the time of the accidents, I blame that!!

    I read an article a while back that Turkey's high rate of traffic accidents (they're #4 globally) is being blamed in part on a high rate of toxoplasmosis. People infected with that are more than 2.5 times more likely to get into a crash because it induces recklessness.

    In the UK horn use is common. Depending on the length it can be an attention grabbing action (I'm letting you make your turn) to a warning (I'm right next to you as you change lanes) to an expression of annoyance (why the **** did you change lanes without indication? I had to break hard to avoid a collision).

    But here is Texas if I sound my horn people look shocked!

    Also flashing people (trucks especially) to let them know them can move into your lane is unheard of here but actually recommended by driving instructors in the UK.

    That said I have seen an increase in distracted driving. Where people wait last minute to cut across 3 lanes to exit...

    People staring at their phones and not moving when the light has already turned green will sometimes get a short honk from the cars behind them in line.
    Also it gives a car from the next lane over the opportunity to cut in front of the one who is stopped at that green light & texting.

    Re: the above comments on decline of social behavior in the US, and because I’m also so tired of that selfish attitude….
    You should visit an Asian country to see a more respectful culture.
    There are some big differences (maybe a couple that are difficult to get used to),
    but overall they have respect for each other, It’s very safe here. A woman can walk alone at night with no concerns. I do it all the time. Right now, the weather is beautiful so I enjoy long walks in the park at night.
    A nonviolent and honest culture. If you leave your bag or phone at a restaurant table to save your seat, no one will take it. Can you even imagine that in the US???
    I ended up on a bus and my transportation card was out of funds and I didn’t realize it, I wasn’t sure what to do because I didn’t have any cash.
    Three different women immediately stood up and rushed to the front to pay for me. Such kindness happens all the time here - I couldn’t even imagine that happening at home.
