We all scream for ice cream!

edited October 2024 in General

Since I locked the other thread and the topic of ice cream was raised, let’s continue that convo here. If you are lactose intolerant, please feel free to discuss your alternatives. No need to make a separate thread…

Some questions (feel free to answer any/all or something else related to frozen treats):

  1. What are your top three ice cream (or ice cream-adjacent) flavors?
  2. What is your favorite local spot?
  3. What is a non-local location you would travel to get you ice cream fix?
  4. What are your top three favorite store-bought brands?
  5. Cup, cake cone, waffle cone?
  6. What are your favorite toppings?
  7. Top three items purchased from the ice cream man as a kid? (ie No drugs etc cmon lol)

Bonus: If you ever dressed as something ice cream related for Halloween (or whenever), feel free to share. Here’s a pic of my contest-winning costume at work (years and years ago 😅)

(I had a speaker playing ice cream truck music and a cooler to hand out frozen treats)

  • I want to see Ben & Jerry's - or somebody! - make Avengers-themed flavors. Y'know, “Stark Raving Hazelnuts,” or “Hulka Hulka Burning Fudge.”

  • I wonder if they have those flavors at Disneyland. I think a trip to downtown Disney is in order.

  • YAY!!! My kind of post!!

    I. dark chocolate, Vanilla with pods, rum & raisin.

    1. Hotel chocolat.

    2. Barcelona, Alicante, Montega Bay. Lisbon

4.Ben and Jerry's (phish food). Hagen daz (though usually too rich for my stomach).

    3. Sweets, flake ( flakey diary milk chocolate), Ice lolly.

  • @4cuddles

I am lactose intolerant but do Lactaid. I used to love Neapolitan with chocolate sauce and fruit cocktail on top. These days I am sticking to Breyer's CarbSmart though.

  • @4cuddles
Haha yeah I remembered them and added them after I made the post 😂

31 flavors but I miss Dolly Madison. Cold stone is great.
When waffle cones came out it changed my life.
Witnessed a person eating a cone that looked like a scuba snorkel ice cream on both sides. I did not take the plunge to try it.

  • IF you consider Sherbet an ice cream( I have been told that it doesn't meet the "cream requirements to be considered an ice cream do with this information what you will) . Then I love Rainbow Sherbet ( and at BR wild and reckless sherbet)
If you do not consider Sherbet an ice cream then I'd say cookies and cream, French vanilla or if (I'm feeling like death my chocolate) a chocolate moose tracks 🫎 Ice cream.
I'm a sucker for thrifty ice cream ( what can I say the nostalgia does it for me)
I prefer a waffle cone or cup
I'm kind of a purist when it comes to toppings and really only reach for the toppings when I'm getting a banana split
our "ice cream man" was actually a paletero so Bolis de limón, paleta de guayaba or if I was lucky a big stick

  • @KittyPukka
I don’t think sherbet is an ice cream, but since I can buy a tub of it alongside the other brands of thrifty ice cream, for the purposes of this post I say it is! Also Italian ice, gelato, popsicles, etc are welcome to be discussed ☺️

  • @CharlieBear your ice cream truck costume is legit!

    1. Strawberry, Vanilla, and Cotton Candy. Someone said it in the other thread, but a good vanilla def can stand on its own without toppings.

    2. Amy's Ice Cream!

    3. I honestly am not sure. I usually don't go out of my way for ice cream

    4. Baskin-Robbins, Blue Bell, and HEB

    5. Waffle cone at the ballpark! Otherwise cup if I don't want to get messy

    6. Strawberries, cookie dough, and Reese's Pieces

    7. The Sonic the Hedgehog and Bubbles from Power Puff Girls ice cream! Also, Ice Cream Sandwiches

  • @marth
    It was me 😆😂
Very solid choices sonic the hedgehog ice cream bars hit different

  • My all-time favorite flavor has always been coffee.

I’ve been experimenting with making homemade ice cream over the years using recipes from Instagram and TikTok, but just can’t justify paying so much for a Ninja Cream. However, a few weeks ago I bought a Dash My Pint Ice Cream maker after seeing some videos online about it.

Using a recipe I found online to make a base using:

    1/2 c milk
    1/2 c Greek yogurt
2 Tbsp of instant pudding mix

    I’ve been making things like:
-Coffee Chocolate Ice Cream with Peanut Butter Swirl and Pecans
    -Banana Creme Cheesecake Ice Cream
-Vanilla Cheesecake Ice Cream with Pecans

I plan on getting some Pistachio Cream or Pistachio Butter and making something with it.

  • @KittyPukka ah yes, now I remember! 100% agree -- when I first moved in my house, I ran after the ice cream truck and got a Sonicbice cream. Sat on the porch that summer day and ate it like I was in first grade

Sonic, SpongeBob, and ninja turtles bars with gumball eyes are about as nostalgic as something can get for me. Oh and flintstones push ups, big sticks, choco tacos, and bomb pops.

  • @CharlieBear
Choco Tacos ! We're the best

I am a geologist so my favorite ice cream is rock erode.

  • Adrian's frozen custard in Burlington, Wisconsin (No affiliation)
Those bustards are so cheap they don't even have a website. they use Facebook.

But their frozen custard is absolutely amazing.

This place local to me makes this flavor called "Cookie Monster" so far I haven't seen it anywhere else.

It is an abomination against all things frozen dairy that should never have existed.

And by god is it delicious. I haven't actually seen it anywhere else.

I like lemon, dark chocolate and orange dreamsicle (mixture of Orange and vanilla). My local favorite is Moo-Thru. I usually do the cake cones. When I buy store ice cream, it’s usually Breyers. Favorite toppings are hot fudge and any kind of nuts. Never had an ice cream man growing up, but as a kid, I loved the orange pushups. The cone with nuts on top and Chocolate around the edge was good too.

  • @Ripley54566 Cookie Monster is in Michigan at my favorite local dairy. I don't believe they ship out of state.

  • [Deleted User]jimmylee (deleted user)

@Ripley54566 @starrynitecuds looks like a flavor offered at Handel's ice creamery.

  • I’ve been craving ice cream. Sadly I can’t eat it while going through chemo. 48 more days, let’s go.

  • I had some of that ice cream with the little bits of cinnamon candy, and decided to kick it up a notch by sprinkling a pinch of cayenne pepper on top. It turned out even better than I expected.

  • @Morpheus
    Oof that’s rough I’m sorry 🫂

  • It took me a while to try superman ice cream. It looks like three colors of play-dough mixed together. But once I finally did, it was tasty.

A science fiction convention I go to usually makes liquid nitrogen ice cream. You can make just about anything that way (including alcoholic ice cream). A usual flavor that sticks in my mind is hot chocolate - that is, chocolate with cayenne.
