Hi community.. My dear 83 year-old father passed and I’m with my mom this week. It’s sad and my family is grieving and healing, and supporting my mom as best as we can.
In the daytime I’ve been introducing my mom to streaming services and signed her up for Netflix.
So far she’s loved Dancing with the Birds and The Biggest Little Farm (documentaries, the later not on Netflix). I’m thinking she might like British Bake Off or Down for Love, Bridgerton or maybe The Queen’s Gambit. I also showed her the trailer to My Octopus, My Teacher which she was interested in.
I haven’t seen much of the above. And I’m biased toward documentaries, so I know those better. Help me if you can - any suggestions for films or series she would like?
She was raised on a farm in Kentucky and loves handicrafts and nature. She’s also a lifelong educator. She’d probably do well on cuddle comfort although she’s from a socially conservative family.
I also bought her an adult coloring book which went down well. She’s artistic but has never been trained, instead following her passion for teaching children. Suggestions on other things like that for this stage of life most welcome.
For me nothing beats friends, family, and walk in nature - and a cuddle of course - to help us humans grieve. Still, days ahead may be long for her and as much as she misses my dad, one of the very few upsides is having control of the remote.
She’s a pretty special lady and I appreciate any suggestions.
