It’s called cuffing because many get married afterward. But the cold season allows you to try on the metaphorical manacles you will be wearing until divorce or death do you part.
Most of the shirts I wear with my suits require cufflinks so would those that engage in cuffing season that do find a short term partner be labeled: cuffLINKED?

Sure, it's a thing. Many people don't want to be alone for the holidays and cold winter/indoor months. (Many people feel awkward attending holiday parties/festivities alone.) Generally, the relationships last until Feb. 15th. 😆

So, apparently Fielding Season runs from May to September, where single people are "Playing the field". That leaves April not belonging to either season. Probably a time for rest and recuperation.
Cuffing referred to the time when a man may have gotten in a relationship meaning threat we were handcuffed by a lady. The season just happened to happen around the time we went back to school. The timing and seasoned happened to coincide with when we returned to school, meaning high school. This tended to keep going in to college and life because in the summer we were running around free. I say this confidently because i believe this term arose very early 90s as i entered high school and used it.
Obviously it's changed a bit over time, marriage did enter into the conversation but i think part of the reason we even considered handcuffed being a thing is because the wife use of the term ball and chain when we were kids.
The season fits because it's a good time to be cuffed and cuddled up with a significant other. I wouldn't say that cuddling and cuffing work here, unless that's what naturally happens.
@gem7 i believe you are right about the hunting comparisons because we definitely believed that it was the girls hunting to get a boyfriend while the boys wanted to play. Again in the 90s we were all players until we weren't.
Not sure if this has been brought up before, but just remember that this is not a dating site so don't go around getting any ideas.

I used to work with someone that left his wife every summer and came back in the fall. I was very young so this was shocking to me. Eventually they divorced and he married a woman at work. I couldn't understand any of this but it sure was fascinating. It was also my first exposure to alcoholics. Interesting job.
I think before I was even a teenager, my mom and her friends would always sit on the front porch and talk in general as well as neighborhood gossip. There was a kid for hours down that was about 19 or 20. He would always have a couple girlfriends until about Christmas and then drop almost all of them maybe except one, so I wouldn't have to buy as many presents. He would get uncuffed just before Christmas.

Lame sauce. Just as lame as the "I want to be married by X years old" crowd. Relationships should develop organically because people are genuinely drawn to each other. Not so they aren't feeling awkward alone at seasonal parties, or to check off boxes of accomplishments per age bracket. That's just begging for failure. 🤨🤦🏻♀️
