@billiam The right to free speech does not apply on a privately owned website. You have as much speech here as ownership allows. As I'm sure you know, First Amendment protects you only from government censorship.

I’ve lost family members to drugs. Three. We all have our own weight and baggage. Some baggage is just not fair to put on others. So I don’t talk about mine too often.
@Bakersdozen I find it interesting that a for-profit business based in the UK only has unpaid US mods. Unpaid volunteering for a for-profit company is NOT allowed in the UK (and US) except under certain conditions (like interning.)
The limited forums here were created by the owner, unlike Facebook groups, which are created by individuals. Facebook also has a very large PAID staff (and AI) who do oversee those groups and pages.
Just because for-profit companies blatantly do something, doesn't mean it's legal.
@starrynitecuds do you think the bias of income generation subconsciously influences the owners? Or maybe even continuously allows for forums to be Wild West of sorts?

@WriterGF I'm not arguing for 100% free speech here on this site. My point is that some say we should be able to speak freely. And I am adding the point that in order to keep speech as free as possible, we have to be responsible with our speech. Most people are not responsible with their speech. And when people are irresponsible with their speech, as we see here daily, speech gets restrained.

Agreed. I choose not to be offended. If I think a particular comment is wrong, idiotic, or insulting, I want it to remain as evidence for all to see.

My original account is 5+ years old, still in good standing.
3 of my family members died in the past two years because of drugs.
It’s frustrating when others, over and over again minimize me by what they say. I’m silent on this issue. Our priorities don’t have to be the same but we are all equal. I’m for certain people. I made a certain decision. I get you made yours and entitled to it. It is for you to make. Quit ranting about the SAME thing on board after board.
My 3 loved ones are still dead. And I hate to see a 4th or 5th.
The OP has been banned, but it was for a duplicate account issue, not a previously-banned member (as far as I know) . Posting here just to prevent speculation as to why the ban took place.
And @CharlieBear @JoyfulHeart I do hope y'all realize just because I might not necessarily always agree with certain mod actions doesn't mean that I take issue with you personally or think about you in an undeserving manner. I know it's just business, nothing personal.
curiosity question---are all flags warranted after an examination of the contents of a post--and if not--are adverse actions taken against the originator. I think its way to easy to flag a post but not necessarily for a valid reason. I don't like censorship but agree with a post on CC being deleted simply to keep the peace given that forums are a nice befit but they are not the primary purpose of the site having been the victim of a ban
If a comment is flagged a number of times by different users, does the commenter receive a private warning?
@g_w_t_w If someone is trolling by flagging tons comments with no merit, they would lose forum access. I haven’t seen that though. People do flag with their feelings sometimes and we just take action based on what the comment says. What is frustrating is when someone flags a comment because it simply disagrees with them. These are typically skipped though. I think some serial flaggers have been timed out, but not by me.
@pmvines Never have I been exposed to such vile hatred more than I have here after becoming a mod. I also have the luxury of seeing myself and other mods being discussed in private convos when investigating reports, which is just super to see. Wild accusations and conspiracies, being referred to in horrible ways, and I just have to ignore it and move on. It is quite something to see how mischaracterized I get because I edited some comment. It’s incredibly draining. But it’s ok. I try not to take the criticism here personally. I’m trying to be fair and unbiased and I make mistakes and try to learn from them. I never felt qualified to do forum moderating and my opinion of that certainly has not changed over these past couple years.

Thanks for clarifying but also wondered if the person whose comment is being flagged is given a private warning. I guess for comments that are against the TOS.
@g_w_t_w - The only time I know I was warned was when I saw my comment was edited. I never recieved any other notification. If I haven't of scrolled through that thread again I would have never known.

@Auroradream I'm assuming the other account stating to be the bakersdozen was also a pseudonym, i believe him to be a long time user wanting to get something off his chest. So he's still here I'm sure (or she).
@g_w_t_w Oh sorry you did say commented. It depends on the comment. If it is just something that needs an edit, no. Having a comment edited is pretty meaningless and doesn't impact your CC account. If the comment is extra egregious, then I (or a fellow site member) may file an actual report against their account. If someone receives a warning from a comment on the forums, that would be why.
