  • You're not alone, and seasonal affective disorder is a real thing. Maybe look into and discuss it with your doctor if you have one.

Oh, sure. I don't have my daughter on Thanksgiving every other year and every Christmas afternoon/evening and those are lousy times to be alone.

I actually hate Christmas, mostly because my parents were evangelical and didn’t celebrate, even though that is not the norm. So I didn’t grow up with the feeling of Christmas that most people experience but I’m OK with that. I just really hate the “Christmas holiday spirit” because its typically expensive. So yeah you're not alone 🖤. On the bright side not having grown up on holidays makes me available to other cuddlers who dislike or don't have family during this time of year. Also, my hatred of Christmas really has me enjoying rewatching Nightmare before Christmas 😅😂

  • Good Friends take time to build, but trust it will come :) I completely understand that.

  • Aside from Christmas itself, this season is personally the loneliest time of year. Looking for ways to fix that lately but it's tough where I live.

  • @theCuddleDrgn I feel the same, it's so commercial and expensive. I prefer making memories, like visiting Christmas towns for parades and looking at Christmas lights. I love baking cookies and treats, too. That's what I taught my mini and am teaching my grandmini. And they have me over every year to watch "Nightmare before Christmas." I love that tradition! But you and @WriterGF made me think about being available for an alone cuddler or two on Christmas.

  • @aly480 finding a distraction is only a distraction for a short time. Finding the main reason for feeling that way, and fixing, or the very least, changing it, will help in the feeling of being lonely. (IF ANY OF THAT MADE SENSE, it did in my head lol)
Yeah Holidays usually suck, for different reasons for different people. Staying active, and busy mentally and physically usually works for me. It's when I stop, it's the hardest to deal with. Best of luck to you, and to all of us.....Happy holidays 🫤

  • Thanksgiving/Christmas is my favorite time of the year, but I dislike the hyper-commercialization of the holidays. It's gross.

I focus more on the spiritual aspect, family, friends, the lights & decorations, and the generally happy, festive mood. I also date much more frequently in the Autumn/Winter than any other time*. So I really do enjoy this time of year.

  • Yes I have a terrible time with the holidays, on a personal and philosophical level. it dredges up all kinds of childhood disappointment, and it's cheap and commercialized to the point of being a joke. society gets all kinds of weirder and crazier with the stress and spiral-eyed frenzy of rushing around buying stuff and going to events that probably trigger them on some level too. Black Friday riots, company parties, visiting in laws, running up the credit card, then throw in lots of sugar and some alcohol eesh. Stir well!
all while the shorter colder days and halting of our usual activities really demand authentic engagement and comfort, meaningful ritual and ceremony, closeness, we get marketing and obligation, crapulence lol. It's really a terrible shame how corrupted the whole affair is, especially when you consider it goes on well over a month.
I try to abstain from as much of it as I can for my own spiritual purity and sanity, but there's definitely isolation involved in that.
I would encourage you to do whatever it is you need to do to find your own comfort and center, and definitely don't justify or internalize any guilt that anyone tries to put on you for taking care of yourself however unconventional it is. The current convention is obviously insane, and anyone with any sensitivity, or longing for real meaning and closeness suffers from it in some level.

  • When I was growing up, the people around me showed me that it is a time of intolerance and hate (even more so than usual). Over the years, this has only been reinforced. People who try to shame if you if you don't celebrate, or outright tell you you're a bad person. People who get angry at the more inclusive "happy holidays". People who love it so much they want to inflict it on everyone for as long as they can, who seem to consider shopping malls and grocery stores as churches that everyone should attend (and get angry if you disagree).

And that's not even mentioning the same 10 crappy songs that get played for a month straight every year. And the migraine-inducing bells of hate. And a number of other things, but I'll end this here.

  • I feel like thanksgiving is a little pointless be it's just me and my son, who's a picky eater so cooking a thanksgiving dinner make him happy but he eats nothing.
No Christmas is very special for us and Easter is actually our favorite

Cheer up and have a cope OP

  • Last Holiday season was brutal for me. The last of my my immediate family had passed. I just stayed home. I love celebrating the winter solstice. I usually go to visit cousins on Christmas Eve. I didn’t last year because they changed location. I’m hoping this year will be better. I am seeing cousins on the other side of my family, I haven’t seen in quite a while for Thanksgiving. As well as Christmas Eve.

I am going with close friends to a winter solstice ritual. So I’m looking forward to being more social.

  • Thankful to this App where never Alone 😀🫂🫂

  • I don't loathe the holiday season but it's not the same when you lose significant persons in your life that made those times of year special. My mother made holiday times important. I feel badly that I am not what my mother was for my family in this generation. I just can't fake it.

  • Holidays are such a tough time, especially if you struggle with loneliness and/or anxiety. Big hugs to those who are doing their best to tough it out ♥️

  • I just want to thank all of you who have commented so far. Its just been a rough year in general for me.

  • @alz480 and others try volunteering for those less fortunate. At a soup kitchen, seniors center, I’ve done it on holidays and on a twice monthly basis in the past. Serving others makes you feel great and you will meet a bunch of people who also love serving and you won’t feel alone during the holidays or year around. Also a great way to meet other service oriented and good hearted people!
