Do you enjoy cuddling while under the weather?

I ended up in the ER today, and was curious if others are like me - who would love to cuddle when not feeling well. My complication isn’t contagious - so I could understand not wanting to cuddle if you’d make someone else ill. But all I want is to be wrapped up like a tortilla, and held. I also know many friends who don’t want to interact with others even in the slightest when they’re not feeling well. What about you?

  • I am sorry to hear you ended up in the ER and hope you are feeling better soon. Your post reminded me of a discussion from a few months ago about cuddling someone in the hospital. I am only fighting a cold, but I wish I had someone to cuddle and pamper me for a change...unless I have a fever. If I am hot, I don't even want a sheet to touch me.

  • @NikkiFM i can empathize and have been willing to cuddle people when they’re not well, either physically or emotionally

But for my own part I want to be left alone to heal. I have absolutely no desire to be cuddled the same way when I’m under the weather. Just sleep and recuperate. I’ve noticed that once my appetite for food returns, so does my appetite for cuddles. 😀

  • If I am contagious, I’m not going to cuddle. If my wife is sick, I will however cuddle with her. Throughout my cancer/chemo journey including surgery, I would have loved to cuddle but with everything the staff if trying to do, it just doesn’t work out.

No, I don't want anyone catching anything from me.

  • @WriterGF what if your sick with something non contagious? I’ve got an autoimmune issues that have me a flare up, but nothing I can pass onto anyone.

@Gwynne42 thank you! Luckily I’ll be leaving here shortly.

  • @NikkiFM i hope you are doing better!🙌🏻🙌🏻
I would love to cuddle, when not feeling welll. I feel cuddles and hugs are healing. The only time I would say no would be if it is stomach related 🫤.

Luckily, for me, I rarely get sick. I don’t even get a cold, runny nose, nothing. If I were to get sick and someone still wanted to cuddle with me, I guess it would depend on my mood. If someone else got sick and I have a close connection with them, I would have no problem letting them lay on me if it made them feel better while they were sick if it were a cold or worse. If it made them comfortable and they wanted to rest and/or sleep on me, I could lay there and watch football with the sound off as long as they were comfortable I wouldn’t mind it at all.

I haven't shaken my allergies for the past 2 weeks. I know I'm not contagious bc people close to me are not getting sick. But I still asked my last cuddler to reschedule till I felt better. I can't provide the best cuddle if I'm uncomfortable with my nose. 😞

  • @Hollydollhugs after some serious meds - I am finally not feeling like death! Thank you! And I’m glad someone feels similar. I wouldn’t have a cuddle sesh with a client, but these are times I call my close friends for some comfort. I definitely don’t have energy to give, but having others there helps me heal for sure.

  • As someone with several incurable chronic illnesses (non contagious ones 😂), cuddling for me is something that always happens when I'm at least somewhat under the weather, and unless I'm extremely sick, cuddling usually helps me feel emotionally better. ☺️ Personally I think it's best when my cuddle partner and I fit naturally, so whether I'm on the less fun end of things or not, with the right fit it doesn't feel like a burden to cuddle someone sick or sad etc, but it is true that that level of comfort often takes time to build.

Most people tend to take for granted things like sitting up, standing, and answering the door, so I generally find it helps to start off being able to do at least the first two, but with the right people even being bedridden isn't a deterrent to building a mutually comforting platonic connection.
Because, ideally, I prefer to build actual friendships with my cuddle partners, so once the initial stiffness wears off and you can both relax, it starts to feel less like having company over and just like two friends hanging out.
So for me, cuddling when I or the other person isn't in top shape is just part of that. Friends support each other without pressure or expectations of being entertained by whoever's the host, you just spend time together because you enjoy each other's company, and there is no one correct script you need to follow to not be judged by each other.

It's ok to be in pain, or sad, or lonely or tired or grumpy and needing to vent about something, the beauty of cuddling to me is that you can honestly just be yourself

I'm basically always down to cuddle, unless I am anxious in a way that makes me irritable like I don't want to be touched.

If I am sick with anything catchy, I cancel cuddles with all of my friends, which sadly, I had to do this week.

If my boyfriend is insistent on taking the risk, I will let him cuddle me as carefully as possible.

I avoid cuddling anyone who is contagious, unless it is my boyfriend. 😊 I put myself in the line of Covid taking care of him, hehe. I refused to let him sleep alone.

I'm not ever really sick in a way that is not a cold or something contagious, so I can't really relate to that bit, but I would imagine that I would certainly want to be cuddled.

And obviously, I would cuddle anyone in such a situation. I've cuddled friends who were grieving the death of loved ones, who were recovering from major surgery, and minor procedures, or coping with divorce, and even the aftermath of war. Comfort is a lovely thing. 🫂

  • I would say it greatly depends on the illness, if it's like a cold or a flu no leave me alone. But if it's like just after surgery or something depending on where it is maybe?

  • In direct answer to the question, yes. Because I do not see myself ever cuddling above the troposphere.

  • Did not want to be bothered after heart surgery. After kidney surgery the same. I could go on. I am more the leave me alone during medical stuff. The only time I did want someone near was when I was in quarantine in the hospital for two weeks with MRSA and my eyes were swollen shut. The only people I had any contact with were nurses and doctors in glorified HAZMAT outfits. I just wanted to see or feel a person, but MRSA is an extreme infection and doubly so for all involved when it’s in your lungs and sinus cavities.

  • If I'm the one that feels under the weather even if it's not contagious I don't book sessions, I feel the energy of the cuddler needs to be in a good space as I'm providing comfort for my clients. As for my clients not feeling well I do require you not have a fever or anything contagious as that's not fair to me or any other clients I may have something booked with but if it's just something effecting you I can't catch or spread I absolutely book sessions still.

Whether my client wants just the cuddling or to be babied a bit I'm very flexible. I think having a supportive presence when not feeling well can help both the mind and body! For however long the session is I provide all basic care, I'll heat you up some food, fetch things for you, give cuddles, play with your hair, etc... whatever helps in that time

Day to day, dealing with disabilities and chronic pain, cuddles would be lovely.

If I am sick with a cold/flu, or basically anything that causes a runny nose or cough, stay away from me.

The mere THOUGHT of dripping onto a cuddling friend makes me shudder in horror.

@TheFunCartel Glad you made it. MRSA are terrifying, and very draining.

  • If the need is there and I am available. Absolutely

  • Im usually home by myself when I get this way. So I never really thought about it. I have people in the past who are. Especially if they need supportive space held for them. I’ve done that many times
