Always wondered if the is a difference between the terms "beatiful " and "attractive "...the second seems to be more superficially used..but what do I know

  • Do you ever get déjà vu when reading something?

Like you could swear you read the exact same thing somewhere else?

  • Did you just see a black cat? And then did you see another black cat that looked just like the first one?

  • @dennis22554 Please ignore those making fun of your double posts. Seems no matter how many times you have said you are impaired from a stroke and are still recovering there are those who wish to demean and joke at your expense.

People, for hopefully the last time, Dennis has had a stroke and that affected his language and motor skills. Take some time and get to know someone if they make mistakes repeatedly. Usually there is a reason. Compassion should be first and foremost on a cuddle site.

  • Nobody is making fun of Dennis. Take a chill pill.

Pointing out his double-post in this thread, or his other identical thread, Term judgement, isn't making fun of any medical issue of his.

I learned as a youth that folks with "complications" can laugh at themselves when they do something silly, and don't mind others laughing along with them.

Similarly, a physically handicapped person I knew in my youth, told me he felt hurt when people would avert their eyes away from him. These people were probably consciously trying not to stare, but he said he was bothered more by that, than if they just acted normal around him.

  • You just want me to take a chill pill so you feel exonerated. I will be proactive and say that you will come back and say I don’t feel guilty because you never do. And as usual you take an anecdotal story and prop it up as if that is how ALL people of a group are.

How about you take a chill pill and not target someone who has stated a few times before they are recovering from something serious. Why not have a conversation with him in DMs.? I did, and he is a sensitive nice person.

  • I'm already chilled, thanks.

You're right, Dennis is a nice person.

You're right again, I don't feel guilty. I laugh at myself all the time, and I refuse to walk on eggshells. I have no ill will against Dennis.

I laugh at myself all the time, and I refuse to walk on eggshells.

Yes we all laugh at you and you are too heavy for eggshells. This is all basic knowledge.

If you know someone who has mental deficiencies, a KIND course of action would be to suppress the urge to make a lame joke that isn’t funny. One made at my expense? Don’t care. You seem to have intimate knowledge of what someone might feel but you don’t. But if it makes Tommy happy that is all that matters.

If you thought as vociferously about the less fortunate before posting as you do about a CEO of a health insurance company like you did yesterday the esteem people might hold you in would rise significantly. I know I would.

  • Yes we all laugh at you...

Good. You should. Never take anyone who uses a blobfish for an avatar too seriously.

  • I don’t but I take those less fortunate seriously.

  • I learned as a youth that folks with "complications" can laugh at themselves when they do something silly, and don't mind others laughing along with them.

Until Dennis is laughing, it's not laughing WITH him, it's laughing AT him.

  • @dennis22554 I know you usually apologize as you are a rational person who thinks of others, but you really do not have to apologize for writing and posting mistakes on the forums. Most people on here know your situation and are not going to make a joke about it. We understand.

  • @dennis22554 IMO, beautiful is more than just looks (beautiful heart, spirit, etc.) Attractive, IMO, is more just looks-wise, and as you said, "superficial."

  • @starrynitecuds I agree totally. Attractive is brought up in casual conversation amongst friends and acquaintances all the time. For example, do you find a certain actor attractive? But it is strictly a looks thing, unless you are talking about a non-animated option like “That is an attractive offer.”

Beautiful has more intimate overtones and can refer to the person’s outlook, personality, and how they treat people. To me it is a positive overall evaluation of the person.

Your explanation is exactly how I see it.

  • Removed double post.

@dennis22554 Like @starrynitecuds said, beautiful _is much more broad and includes many applications (i.e. it was a beautiful day, she was beautiful, the beautiful music filled the air, etc. _Attractive is a bit more specific, I believe, and nuanced. The root word, "attract," speaks of being drawn to something. So to say "He was attractive" would imply there was something about him (it could be something other than mere looks) that drew him to another's attention. However, I don't think it is always superficial. If you find someone's intellect or generosity to those in need, is that superficial? I also don't think being attracted to someone's external looks is always superficial, though it certainly can be. I think it becomes superficial when that is the only basis for the attraction.

  • True beauty can bestill the heart.

Someone very attractive will tend to have the opposite effect elsewhere.

  • Until Dennis is laughing, it's not laughing WITH him, it's laughing AT him.

Nope. I'm laughing because I can relate--because whatever it is that I'm finding funny, it's because I've done the same thing myself. It's what was done, not who's doing it.

But I do agree with the distinction between beautiful and attractive.

  • Did you have a stroke when you did it, Tom? Because, it seems like you’re making a false equivalency here.

  • Oh, Monkey!
Did you read the Mods comments at the top?
All I did was mention déjà vu.

If a disagreement is between 2 people, why do others feel the need to jump in and dog pile on one of the commenters?
It seems a childish thing here that’s done quite often, mostly by men. Like playground posturing and teaming up bullying
I feel like the teacher watching a bunch of boys misbehaving. It’s not a good look for you guys honestly.
Even my own kids (who are about the age of many of you) don’t act like this.
The moderators have to act like parents and put you in timeout.

Flagged. Pot-stirring. Please refer issues to moderators rather than continuing the behavior you're pointing out in others. -JoyfulHeart

So you feel the need to jump in to dog pile on the people jumping in to dog pile? Now there’s a postmodern irony.

    Flagged. Name-calling. Post removed. -JoyfulHeart

  • I have never seen someone accusing people of stuff while simultaneously doing exactly the same thing they are chastising others for. It’s breathtaking in its inanity. Great entertainment though.

  • lol I knew that of all people, you wouldn’t get it.

  • edited December 2024

    Oh I get it.

Teacher…mom at the age of ten (I did the math—that’s a lot of “posturing”.

Even my own kids (who are about the age of many of you) don’t act like this.

    You monitor their online posting?

Finally, if you would set aside your smugness and superiority you would notice that you are engaging in the same behavior. Look at you hurling snark:

    Carry on, kids.

    Name calling (tsk, tsk)

    you wouldn’t get it.

    Insulting (tsk, tsk)

You are no better than anyone else here. You just lack the self-awareness to know that and how full of yourself you are when you act like that. You might be a mom but you are not anyone else’s mom on here.

I at least have the self-awareness that it can look bad but I choose when to look bad for a reason.

If you decide to respond then I will say welcome to the playground that you talked about—you are a natural!

Flagged for baiting. Comment removed. -JoyfulHeart

  • Somehow it's nice to know I'm not the only one with an arcnemesis.

  • edited December 2024

Baiting is explicitly against forum rules. Comment removed, forum timeout given. -JoyfulHeart [Moderator]

  • @IronLemon Not an arch nemesis. I would expect more from that. This was more like dealing with Kate Winslet’s mom in “Titanic”. Say a few words and watch them swim in a sea of their own hypocrisy.
