No, I don't think that was me. Climate change is not just about "warming," per se. Climate change is always happening, has always happened, and will always happen---with or without us---just as it happens on other planets with atmospheres.

Is it only me but… Does Instagram have an overall better reputation as being more focused on the creative or generally taken more seriously than TikTok (which seems a bit low level, kind of trashy videos). Why do I have that impression, overall (and not just based on my own interests/algorithms)….?
@g_w_t_w As a complete outsider (I have never used either IG or TT) what you just said is consistent with what I know of their reputations. But that is purely the impression I have based on comments I have read about them over the years.

@wilderdude I agree about Gen Z silliness or junior high level humor on TikTok, turning brains to mush. We definitely don’t let my grandson have any access to that. I’ve never seen anything sports related on IG, of course I see a lot of what I’ve previously liked & are my interests. Almost exclusively painters, photographers, hand made or designer jewelry, travel videos, music & funny videos of cute, fluffy little dogs talking because 😂 they’re pleasantly happy. I don’t like ugliness.

I fully agree with the first part of what @xxDerickxx said. I am also amazed at how many people bought the official narrative that this ban is due to them being concerned about China data mining the United States. There’s a China Town in almost every major city in the United States. Are they going after those next?
I, for one, think that it is wholly about money…just like everything else the United States does. Whether they can spin it to look ethical is simply a bonus.

The CCP makes religious leaders disappear permanently or to jail for years until their dedication is complete. The harvest the organs of political and religious prisoners, they monitor social media and punish anyone they deem offensive (hmm that’s what the UK does not, that’s scary) They have over 1 million Muslims in camps in western china and make them violate their religion and harvest their organs and commit atrocities against girls and women. Cenk’s recent talk show rounds only seem to reinforce that disconnect for me. I tend to approach these issues from a place that challenges the status quo more directly.

100% agree with you. In 2008, Secretary of Defense Gates created the “Minerva Initiative” within the DoD. It was a research program which directed DoD funds to Universities to research social science topics such as “belief formulation”, “belief propagation”, “emotional contagion”, and “movements for change”.
In other words, clear back in 2008 the DoD viewed social media as a new battlefield. Minerva is the Roman goddess of wisdom and war. The program still exists today https://minerva.defense.gov but the website has been GREATLY toned down from the way it was worded back around 2013-2014. You can use the Internet archive and see the more much less nuanced version of what type of research they were funding - today’s website is VERY tame in comparison.

@Ironman294 The second to last paragraph literally makes no sense. But yes, I do believe the lab leak theory exists partly due to unconscious racism. Would there be such a concern if the virus had originated in Europe? And I know you are Asian, but I am also 1/4 Japanese and have Asian family and friends as well. That is why I feel this personally too. There is a lot of precedent for these kinds of issues to get sensationalized when it is Chinese or Japanese people who are to blame for something in this country. Think about the Chinese exclusion act or the internment camps for Japanese Americans in World War II. A lot of ignorant people will then blame anyone who looks Asian for these problems. There is a history of that. That is why I don't like your rhetoric.
