It’s official that TikTok is coming back tomorrow. Screenshots from a Wall Street Journal article published just minutes ago.
Rednote is going to go the same way as tik tok sooner or later. The CCP refuses to sell Tik Tok and would rather shut down . Because Italy’s not about money. It’s about spying on Americans because all those teenagers will be adults one day and some will end up in jobs with the government and other important American companies. And since they built a profile that allows them to store all their passwords will be able to figure out future passwords. TT also tracks your face. While Facebook data mines when we check the agreement the agreement doesn’t say it is allowed to copy your keystrokes, the keystrokes of nearby cell phones and desktops. And since it’s a foreign adversarial country we have no recourse to sue for transparency the same way we can with an American company. Stop allowing and or advocating or lamenting that an evil communist government can no longer access and steal your data and private information which we don’t allow other companies. This government makes its opponents disappear. Journalists, religious leaders, Christians, Muslims in camps. Strips them not only of their dignity but has killed and stolen organs and sold to rich foreigners, sold off as slave labor to companies and allowed women to be violated violently. And also wants to forcibly take over Taiwan and eventually the world. Why would anyone give the benefit of the doubt to a country that does this and owns Tik Tok?

Of course it’s back, how could anyone think that an app that’s so lucrative and popular with kids for mindless entertainment, the go-to for news and education for so many who don’t know better would be gone, Even though I don’t use it, it’s just common sense. And look at all the attention they got over this lol.

I’m hoping it will be restored on the App Store. I know many people deleted the app from their phone or just lost access and if it goes on too long, it will get buggy without being fed updates.

Saying TikTok is exceptionally bad data safety wise is not only untrue it's also been actively disproven and apps like FB and Instagram have already been proven to be worse with hard facts. After 9/11 in America we were all convinced to trade our personal privacy and sensitive data for "security" and under the Patriot Act that became legal. EVERY social media app and many, many other apps abuse this agreement, it's not even something they hide, it's literally right there in the agreements we all sign to join these sites. So arguments about the evils of data insecurity are deeply insincere at best. We all agree it's invasive and that great harm can be and is done with people's personal data on every level from the everyman to top officials.
The issue is in singling out TikTok specifically because it's owned by a "foreign" company. Especially since the people who made this a big issue so very clearly have no idea about the facts of the situation. Just look at the hearing where the CEO of TikTok was questioned, the questions asked were absolutely appallingly wide of the mark, asking about China when he and his company aren't even owned by or run in China, the Chinese communist party when he's literally Singaporean, and questions that show a clear lack of understanding of how wifi even works anywhere, let alone in connection to TikTok. Not to mention that Trump started this whole debacle with his wildly inaccurate and xenophobic attacks on anything he deems as Chinese. Many politicians who lobbied for the ban have since admitted publicly that they did it to remove Americans access to uncensored media that accurately shows America's actions in the world, like the 'bad PR' of the American people being able to see the truth of what's happening/happened in Gaza, and how that triggered massive protests against America's wholesale funding and support of a genocide. The censoring of anti government sentiment by the government directly violates our right to free speech, especially when the outcome they are desperately trying to avoid is protesting. Add in that Zuckerberg and Meta have poured tons of money into pushing this ban through to attempt to expand it's social media power into a monopoly, and this whole thing is screwy on every conceivable level.
It's easy to get caught up in the messaging. Making this look like it's some sort of sneaky cyber-attack from the Chinese government, or communism, or even just saying TikTok is just stupid and useless brainrot for kids so why should we care about it, makes agreeing with a government that is actively trampling our constitutional rights seem like a no brainer. But it's simply not true.
And for those wondering about the move to Rednote, which is another app that falls under the ban of all "foreign" apps, it's a protest. Millions of people, both from TikTok in America and otherwise have joined Rednote to show that we don't support our government's decision and that we refuse to accept the blind hatred, fear mongering, xenophobia and anti-informational rhetoric that has become the norm in this convention.
Here in America we see ourselves as "the good guys" of the world, and that is due in large part to our hand in fighting against fascism in WW2. Now here we are, our government following proven and well documented fascist ideology in lock step, banning books and any outside influences, all while so many of us are swallowing it hook, line and sinker because we still blindly believe we're "the good guys", and it's deeply horrifying to watch.
I know this won't change anyone's mind, but if you do genuinely want to learn more, I recommend looking into the steps of how fascism progresses in a country. It's very eye opening.

Strange this order for Tik Tok to be divested from Chinese ownership has bipartisan support. Tik Tok is Chinese owned. ByteDance is a Chinese internet technology company. And is used by the Chinese Communist Party as a spy tool. And also used to push algorithms of brain rot. Tik Tok isn’t allowed in China, instead they have Do Yen which only has largely Math, Science, patriotism and pro Chinese propaganda. Now why would China not allow Tik Tok in China? Because they don’t trust the same algorithms they push. Any company in China must allow the government access to any data digital or not. This has nothing to do with Xenophobia because the law is against any adversarial countries. Iran, China, Venezuela, Cuba, etc. that’s it, countries that want to destroy us. What was xenophobic and racist was when people said Covid didn’t come from a virology center but instead from Chinese eating exotic gross creatures.

To whoever stated they can no longer have “cooking classes”, have you ever heard of Google? Food Network? Attending local community events? FaceTiming your friends and trying a new recipe?

I’m bringing this thread back from the dead because I don’t think I ever replied to it.
I never signed up for TikTok and never will. It’s a god-awful app, people are always posting deplorable things (especially with children involved) and that’s what gets clout and views, and I don’t even think it’s good as a tool when we consider how short short form content shortens attention spans. I also heard it’s very difficult to filter what you want to see on there. It doesn’t really seem like you need to sign up for it if you just want to view content because TikTok’s often bleed into other social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube.
