Chill Confessions

In my opinion, when we do call out threads for people and how they are feeling the intention is good and I think it does do some good to just say “what ____ really pisses you off” and following it up with “what _____really makes you feel love”. It passes very basic information about you to people who can digest this information to get a better understanding of you. But the information is so basic you are really just getting their strong opinion of the extremes.

I would like to hear from people who just feel very chill at the moment by just being in the moment—momentary serenity. Is it an activity? Physical touch? Are you just sitting with yourself over a cup of acceptance in your mental crib? What is it that is it that birthed this moment of serenity? Use this thread to journal your chillness in this moment so someone may learn from you.

I am always interested in finding how others locate and grow their momentary serenity because one single method is simply not enough. My brain, as I am sure everyone else’s does as well, becomes bored and craves something new and unexpected to reignite the feeling of a smile and just being.

There are no right or wrong answers, only what works for you today. I will pick and choose which new strategies or ideas to try for myself. I hope you find some too.

  • I accept what I can't change and love myself even when I don't like myself. When this seems like a hard task to take on I focus on being still. Breathe, look ahead, remind myself that nothing is permanent and no matter how I am feeling it will always be better.

Being completely alone brings peace and serenity for me. Helps me focus to figure everything out, find solutions.
And doing anything else alone also, something creative, fresh air, walking, music.
    I never feel lonely.

  • I second @g_w_t_w . The biggest hurdle in learning to love yourself is being happy with being alone with yourself. Your own uninterrupted thoughts, no sounding board or others to rely on for happiness. Being your own best friend and knowing you're not perfect and that's ok.

Sorry, can't help. Job searching does not promote chill.

  • @WriterGF I fully understand that. I was hoping what some people share that chills them out would be scraps that could help someone like yourself. Or not. But hopefully something. I know I am always looking because certain platitudes and advice wear thin and you become very conscious that you are merely trying to convince yourself to calm your mind. So I look for something that works. I bet living with uncertainties like you are doing is full of anxiety and stress. Sometimes you gotta try something new for a moment of calm.

And this has nothing to do with being alone with yourself—it is slowing down the mind. I love being alone. I interact with people all day long. It’s my job. So I love solitude at the end of the day if I am not having to take out a client after hours.

  • I think there’s an element of truth in the solitude and stillness to let thoughts proliferate, but I’ll also argue that getting out of yourself is also therapeutic. We’re none of us truly islands, and need people.

I run into people so wound up and living in their heads that they just need to refocus on what’s going on around them, and who, and realize the greater context.

A lot of mountains become mole hills when seen from someone else’s positive feedback.

Sometimes you find comfort in the depression and the hurt. I'm never completely ok. I tell people I ten to average a solid C+ to B- give or take. But there is something comforting about being able to sit with that and come to terms with being ok with not being ok. It's like a warm blanket on a cold day with a hot bowl of soup, letting yourself feel the not so great stuff and tempering it with the good and making it all manageable. It becomes integrated into normalcy. And there is something very calming and reassuring about that.

My typical day is mostly isolated.

I have an attention schedule, so that I have a bit of structure to get started, and kind of warm up my creativity on those days where I don’t start in the flow.

5:00 AM (ish) Wake up, re-establish compartmentalization for pain and anxiety. Do morning routine. Grab a piece of fruit to settle my stomach for medication.

5:30 AM (ish) Put on headphones. Cue up a playlist. Sketching practice. I draw for 20, rest and stretch for 10, draw for 20, rest and stretch for 10.

    9:00 AM Breakfast

9:30 AM (ish) Writing. Work on whatever game or world building project I have. Same timers. 20 minutes working, 10 minutes resting and stretching.

    1:00 PM Second breakfast.

    2:00 PM Drum practice.

    4:00 PM Art class.

6:00 PM Writing or Drawing depending on where my flow takes me.

    2:00 AM (ish) fall unconscious.

5:00 AM (ish) Rinse and repeat.

During the day I will occasionally get calls or texts and have conversations with whoever, but most of my time is spent creating stuff while listening to music, and filling the rest times with scrolling, breathing exercises, or meditation.

  • I regained some serenity (less yelling) last night when I helped pop someone's shoulder back into the socket after I played a part in dislocating it during a hockey game. Does it count as a chill moment if he was laying on the ice? (I'm trying to poke fun I'm still trying to get over the guilt it was so not on purpose)

Seriously, for me intentional choice of music does it, it can so much either change or reinforce my mood. Today I needed a bit of calm so I leaned towards INXS' "The Swing" album on my commute to and from work.

  • To calm my self I sing and dance sometimes I rap cyphers or paint being artistic or just moving my body in a productive way makes me feel amazing boost my moral also endorphins and all that jazz

I love this thread topic… it’s extremely thought provoking and I THINK I understand what you are reflecting on….

    You said…

    Momentary Serenity

I am listening to some lovely music… doing a few creative projects, and finding a lot of peace this morning.

I don’t have an extraordinary urgency about anything… there are no deadlines or meetings coming up.

    The snow is gently falling….

It’s nothing I forced today…. It just IS. I feel calm. Chill. A bit of Momentary Serenity.

I know there must be a million ways this happens for people…. And think we’re all different in how that happens. Such a curious thing. ❤️ I suppose we would find this in a lot of geographical locations…. But sometimes it’s just over a cup of coffee at your kitchen table.

  • @g_w_t_w I'm with you on the alone time. I love my friends and family, but wow do I cherish my solo time. My brain needs that time to process things.

Before my divorce, I had almost no time to myself. I truly didn't realize how much I need it.

Just completed a five mile snow shoeing trek here in Northern Colorado. Very serene and calming atmosphere. Beautiful snow topped trees, a slight attempt by the sun to make an appearance, tracks of various critters scurrying for cover or food. Total silence accept for the occasional wisp of wind rustling through the pines. Hardly noticing the cold and the effort put into moving one foot in front of the other. Life is good. Nothing bothers me right now except the wait time for my cold beer.

  • Being alone, and alone with my thoughts, is my normal. At work, it's phone calls all day. Silence, except for my constant tinnitus, while driving and exercising (walking, biking, etc.) No tv, no radio, no streaming at home. I enjoy my solitude.

  • 🍃 And passing out rn. 💜

  • My chill moment is right now, as I'm taking the mask off and sharing with others my emotional truth.

We are taught to play the game of don't say this yet! Wait to say that. Never say this (to someone you're interested in)...

Feels good just to say it.
