Trigger warning! Attempted assault/robbery/murder

edited February 2025 in General

People! I just realized I was a victim of attempted assault/robbery/murder last night. And I'm not being dramatic.

Someone must have spiked my drink at a karaoke bar last night, while I was in the restroom, or while I was singing karaoke!

Two standard drinks are not enough to seriously eff me up, not even close. It's maybe enough to get me a little tipsy.

When I left the karaoke bar, I still thought I was ok and drove off.

Shortly after I parked, I blacked out in my parked car completely without warning and then woke up three hours later with a nasty headache and severe nausea. There is no way I would have been that effed up from the alcohol alone.

I have blacked out in my parked car in the past, but it was totally different. When it happened in the past, it was from severe exhaustion; thus, it was not without warning, because I was already feeling drowsy. And when I would wake up, sometimes hours later, I would still be exhausted, but not sick. But blacking out without warning, and waking up hours later feeling ill, this has never happened before.

The reason it's attempted murder is because it could very easily have gotten not only me but several people killed. That would at the very least qualify as attempted manslaughter. When you're drugged, you don't have control over when you black out. It happens suddenly and without warning. If I had been just 5 minutes later, and blacked out while I was driving on the freeway, I would almost certainly have been in a fatal car accident, which would almost certainly have taken not only my life but several other lives as well.

I guess, I thought this would never happen to me.

In short, an angel must have been watching over me, to teach me an uncomfortable lesson, while allowing me to escape the situation largely unscathed, other than the nausea and headache that I'm still not fully recovered from.

I'm very lucky to be alive and unharmed.

Has something like this happened to anyone else?

    Fortunately, no. One of the "positives" of being diabetic is you can't drink alcohol.

  • Has something like this happened to anyone else?

    Accidentally, intentionally or surreptitiously?

    @TheFunCartel

    All three terms are applicable at the same time.

    Accidental on my part, because I did not intend to consume a beverage that was spiked with a date r*pe drug.

    Intentional on the part of whoever the offender was.

    Also surreptitious, because this was done in a sneaky way, without my knowledge and consent.

    I specifically mean an experience similar to mine; not intentionally spiking your own drink. But feel free to share if you've ever done something crazy like that. 😂

    I don't know how it's even possible to accidentally spike a drink with a drug that's intended to knock someone unconscious.

  • Oh my @SunriseSnuggles !!! How terrifying!! I never leave a drink unattended, I take it with me or finish before I leave. Not even a water bottle. Trust nothing when you are in a public setting, you just never know. I’m so glad you are okay. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I’ve never had that happen.

    I have never had that experience. Very happy you survived @SunriseSnuggles.

  • Once I was with a friend at a bar listening to a band. She started acting really loopy after only half a drink. I got up to pee and when I returned 2 guys were trying to escort her out. I got super violent with one,.the other ran off, and I brought her home and next day she didn't remember a single thing.

    🙊

  • What a scary experience, glad you are well and safe.

    If you can, please report and document the establishment.

    California passed AB1013 and it took effect last year. Here are some links for educational awareness.

    Stay safe and never take eyes off your drink. Always have a check ICOE person due to this exact scenario.

    Recent case from the Bay

    Stay safe!

  • @WriterGF - My step dad is diabetic and he drinks Miller Lite all the time.

  • Im so sorry this happened to you. So glad you are okay and nothing bad happened.

    @Mike403 May depend on what he's using. I'm on Metformin so alcohol is largely verboten.

  • Nah this has never happened to me, I haven’t been to a bar in years and no guy or girl is looking to take advantage of me. First time I heard of it happening to a guy, glad you are safe.

    @Ironman294

    I know, right? I never thought it would happen to me, because I'm a guy.

    But it couldn't have been anything else.

    It couldn't have been food poisoning from something I ate earlier in the day. Food poisoning frequently causes nausea, but it wouldn't cause you to black out.

    It couldn't have been the alcohol itself. There's no way two standard drinks would affect me like that. So, the drink had to have been tampered with.

  • Sounds like the old Mickey Finn.

  • Never ever leave a drink unattended

  • This is why I chug my drinks. That includes water. Carry the empty can for proof of patronage.

  • @SunsetSnuggles I’m also so glad you had that kind of lesson - uncomfortable but without the worse/worst case scenario. I hear your gratitude for that - and the learning from it as well!
    I certainly have counted my blessings re: blacking out (including doing so on a bike and waking up in the ER). That was the beginning of the end of my relationship w alcohol! But yeah, my similar experiences were all self induced! (Thank the gods that’s behind me!)

  • I also never leave my drink unattended but I used to wear a nail polish that was designed to change to a certain color to show your drink has been spiked.
    I’m sorry you went through that 😖

  • @EthanNeedsHeld

    Thank you.

    FYI you accidentally tagged SunsetSnuggles, but I am SunriseSnuggles, formerly MountainCuddles. Yes, I took inspiration from her!

  • @SunriseSnuggles You have no idea how many times I question who the person is referring to when they mention you or "SunsetSnuggles". 😅

  • Yes it has happend to me. Thankfully I too must have had some angels. I only had a few and before I knew it room was spinning and I was out cold. I woke to realize missing money from my wallet. Thankfully money is all they were after it seems.

  • @SunriseSnuggles
    I imagine there might be lab testing you could do, if you went within 24 hours, that could reveal what may have happened. My grandfather was drugged once, and the hospital told him exactly what with.

    So glad you were safe in your car when you blacked out!

    @SunsetSnuggles

    It's too late for that now, as it's already 24 hours. I'm almost fully recovered. The headache is almost gone. But it is unfortunate that I'll never know what drug was used.

    But this is so scary. Another 5-10 minutes of driving, I would most likely have ended up in a fatal car accident. It was a damned good thing, not just for me but also innocent bystanders, that my car was parked before I blacked out.

    In my arrogance, I presumed that I didn't need to take precautions about leaving my drink unattended at bars, because I'm a guy. What a fool I was!

    I elected not to go through the hospital. I prefer to avoid that unless it's a true emergency. It was just nasty stomach flu symptoms at that point. Highly unpleasant but not life-threatening. So, I just recovered at home.

  • @SunriseSnuggles
    I'm not trying to say that what you said happen didn't happen. I am just wondering whether or not it's possible that you could have been having an acute reaction due to some kind of underlying condition or exposure to something else that wasn't related to having had your drink spiked? Did you already rule that out?

  • @WriterGF
    😳 I am on Metformin, among others…and I never paid attention to that memo. Yikes. Luckily I drink (or drank) very rarely.

    @pmvines

    Yes, I already ruled these possibilities out. I don't experience acute reactions like that to underlying conditions.

    I was not exposed to anything else that could potentially have caused me to black out like that without warning and then wake up 3 hours later with stomach bug symptoms. I considered the possibility that it was something I ate. Food poisoning could cause nausea and headache symptoms similar to that, but there's no way that it could cause me to suddenly black out, completely without warning. Only roofie drugs can do that.

  • I'm glad you're okay that's so scary 😨

  • Gotcha. Glad all is well

  • If you believe you were drugged, and not only drugged but also believe someone has the intention to rape, assault, rob, murder you, why isn’t the first thing you’ve done is call the police or go to the hospital? If you did those things I apologize, I didn’t read all the way down. Those are just very serious offenses, and I would hope if that was the scenario you would have notified authorities and gotten yourself tested.

  • Also, who were you out drinking with? Friends? Someone you just met? Alone? What did you after you woke up and found yourself in that position? Have you spoken with the bar or any friends you were with since the incident?
