I know it is not earth changing but I recently invented a prosthetic finger attachment for my dad. I plan to give it to him on his birthday next month. Can't wait to see the look on his face. I named it the Ugly Hooker.
Language is my number one pick. Agriculture and cooking tied for the 2nd spot. Writing for 3rd. The wheel, soap, penicillin, and anesthesia I would not want to live without. The internal combustion engine was also a game changer.
Fire would be number one but I think of it more like a discovery, although one could say the same for penicillin. Electricity is also a discovery, the invention is its generation and use.
Pottery. It made storage possible.

Not sure how many are aware of this, but a lot of the technological advances existed years if not decades before being made available to the masses. One that is slowly becoming available is 3D printing. The Internet didn't have a smooth start. many doubted it. it wasn't fun sitting half an hour waiting on a song to download from Napster using Juno or AOL dialup. Bitcoin is a reinvention of money - Doubters will regret doubting it. looking back decades from now it will be obvious.
